Non-Sleeper cell -- for those who want to ramble at night, not bright and early

It isn’t gold but it is pretty fancy

Very fancy and well deserved.

Funny isn’t it? You’re given a grand watch on the day you celebrate not having to be anywhere at time any longer.

Enjoy!

Boo

Now you’ll have time to bring your family and meet me for lunch when I come to town for doctor’s appts. You know all the best places.

we will have to do that

The wind, she is ablowin’! Looking at the trees, from the east(ish) to the west(ish). Temps are on the cool side of shirt sleeve F. Gonna be chilly tonight. Today was a good day, mood-wise. Spirits were up all day, the crew on my half of a multi-crew office move had a good time working. Looking forward to the weekend.

Congrats to longhair.

Can’t believe I left that out! Cats, coffee, chocolate and one more thing I can’t remember…

Glad you found us. Welcome aboard the Night Train :steam_locomotive::train2:!

And I may actually sleep better tonight! The wildfires here on the left close have been burning waaaaaaay to close to home (one of them came withing a mile of the school I teach at, and had it advanced any closer the remaining staff wouldve simply evacuated and let the campus go up in flames). However its been raining off and on since about 11 pm last night (its now 7pm) and everyone is breathing a big sigh of relief. For now it looks like the campus has been spared.

But… I’ll still probably be up tossing and turning tonight.

Glad you, your colleagues and the school are ok. Walked outside an hour ago and clearly smelled smoke-and I live 1600 miles + from the west coast. Beyond scary. I hope the rain keeps coming your way (and up and down the whole coast).

Tonight will be my early night as I am going to granddaughter Hattie’s Saturday morning instead of my usual Sunday. Early meaning the iPad will get closed at 12am CDT instead of my usual 3am or so. I know, sometimes it is even later…bad habits are hard to break and I’ve about given up trying on this one. Not that I’ve been trying very hard. Been staying up late to read since I was 7 and read by moonlight coming in the upstairs window while my mother was downstairs sure I was asleep.

Boo

0532 GMT. Just woke from a nice little nap. Haircut, tomorrow, no excuses. When I start having bed hair and needing a comb, I’m desperately shaggy.

Boo, you n me were a lot alike as kids🤓
Except I didn’t start needing glasses until a few years ago. Just for reading or close in fine detail work so far, but I can see (heh!)the time coming when eyeglasses are a permanent fixture on my face

0300 on the nose, I’ve slept maybe half an hour total tonight.

Since finishing my MA in May I’ve had no desire to read despite the fact that I used to be a voracious reader. One of my students recommended I read the Dresden Files series, but I can’t even read the 3 paragraph Wikipedia summary without my mind wandering so I doubt I’ll be able to handle the books. There were several book series I started years ago that I got a few titles into but never finished: Sanford’s Prey series, the Jack Reacher books, a couple of others. I’ve thought about taking up one of those again but I doubt I’ll be able to finish one if I start. That would’ve been a decent way to pass these otherwise miserable hours.

I don’t have the problem you have with reading, Lancia, but sometimes I just can’t find anything I want to read. That’s how I discovered PBS Spacetime, Dr. Don Franklin at Fermilab (who gave imho one of the most interesting and clear thumbnail explanations of relativity I’ve ever heard)…there are a lot of others, but those were the first two channels I watched more than just a random vid here and there

Or, forgot this one somehow, Project Gutenberg has a section of scifi short stories from pulps and the like. Some of them seem pretty dated, but there are a LOT of gems in there. How do you do with scfi short stories?

Pain.
Stop the pain.

drugged up, hate it

Beck, it sucks, I know. We’re praying and thinking happy healing thoughts your way.

I wish we could divvy up your pain and each take a chunk, Becks. k

Sign me up too. I’ll take a big chunk offen yah.

Beck, please get weller soon, please?

Vaderling wanted to go to a movie tonight. On top of all the last showings having already started by the time he asked, except the drive-in, there isn’t a damned thing playing that I want to see. The only thing new is the Bill and Ted nostalgia flick that I have zero interest in.

Chilly tonight, umm, roughly bathrobe degrees F down from shirt sleeve F.

Lancia, hope your insomnia resolves

Beck, You Get Better!!!1!!1!

Thinking of you, Beck. Get better soon!

Still binge-watching old TV shows here. May see what I can do to a crossword puzzle later.

Lots of positive energy for you, @Beckdawrek.

Today’s “highlight” occurred while I was mowing the back yard. I’d been stung by a yellowjacket back there earlier this summer; I got stung again today, and after beating a retreat from the area, I saw two more of the little yellow-and-black assholes on my pants legs, trying to find a spot to sting. Swatted those bastards.

I then went to the hardware store, and got a “yellowjacket trap,” as well as a can of stinging-insect insecticide. I’m pretty sure I know where they have a nest – it’s either in an old railroad tie that acts as a garden border, or in the ground next to it. I used the spray at sunset, and saw a bunch of flying insects show up a few moments after I laid down the spray. We’ll see what things look like back there tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the sting spot – right at the bottom of my ribcage, just left of center on my chest – is still aching, even with the hydrocortisone. I’m just thankful that I’m not actually allergic.

I hope so, too.

  1. I’m bingewatching Supernatural, so I’ll give it one more episode and then hit the sack. I picked up some melatonin today and I’ll take one here in half an hour or so. I’m reluctant to take anything that might make me groggy the following day, but at this juncture, well, any port in a storm.

Beck, I missed the explanation of what’s been vexing you but I hope all is mended speedily and thoroughly.
