My buddy, who was in the Canadian military, uses 2400 for exact midnight, then starts again from zero. So 12:30 AM would be 0030 (he’d often use “double-oh-thirty” for these times). I don’t know if this is today’s military standard though; he’s been out of the military for thirty years, at least.
Yes. You are on the right show. It may take a bit. Sorry it’s grim at first. I liked it because is so absurd and outrageously camp. Eventually some of the characters become like friends. And I really liked a lot of the women characters-sassy. The journalist comes to mind.
So give it a bit. It is drama, but becomes over the top. Let me know what you think.
Boo even knows what this means. See, I’m teachable. Sort of.
The Dark Side of the Force stole it from us. We had it first.
Wondering if H’pocr’ts is a play off of Hippocrates-who had a few opinions about medical professionals. I may be giving play writers too much credit.

It’s 18 minutes into Thursday. Does that mean it’s all downhill til Saturday? Not that my Saturdays are any different than any of the other days…
Fixing to read my novel (in a dead tree real book-I’m kind of a throwback to different times). Feel free to stop on by.
Boo
I’m here. Alternating between the SDMB and a NYT Sunday crossword that I’ve been working on for a couple of days. I may throw in a “Lou Grant” DVD–I’ve been binge-watching that series.
But I’m here. Who else is?
I’m here reading. Makes me feel better.
Not up to snuff yet.
Tried to walk the doggies twice today. Didn’t get far. I threw the ball for them. Bayliss is a champion fetcher.
Betsy never has understood the game.
The ball is too large for the Chihuahuas to get. Not that they would bring it back to me.
@Spoons, I liked my song.
We need to find a way to post vocals. Wouldn’t THAT be fun?
I’m here, though not for much longer. I need to be on a conference call in 8 hours and 5 minutes.
Didn’t get as much writing done as I wanted tonight, but sometimes the Muse is less cooperative, and I don’t find it useful to press when I’m not feeling inspired. I won’t have to run this game for a few weeks, so I have some time yet.
Have a good evening, all!
Glad that you liked the song, Beck. I also knew that you’d get the song I adapted it from–you have a wide knowledge of music. I’m sure there is a way to post vocals, but I’m not going to be first.
Have a good night, Kenobi!
I missed all of you by just a few minutes. At least I got the ball rollingg.
He’a good finder too. Meaning he found you. Animals are smart that way. I’ve been found by many a cat.
It wouldn’t be fun if it is my vocals, I assure you. My gift is in listening and enjoying.
Give my thanks to the doggie rehab staff that got you out in the fresh air. Hope the weather was pleasant for assorted and sundry quadrupeds and bipeds.
Kenobi (I’m still learning Mumper nicknames) Hope your conference call goes well. I always fortify myself with a cup of or two
before those. Doesn’t make me articulate but at least I’m awake.
Good night all. Finished my book. Off to knit the raveled sleeve of care.

Indeed it was a word play on Hippocrates. Might as well stick with the theme right?
Ok so bookend or fresh start, i dunno. Passed out sometime a few hours back. Good thing I set my alarm before getting comfy in my easy chair.(was planning to read a bit before bed). Alarm went off at Goddamn thirty am as directed. Don’t know weather conditions, don’t care, grumpy and sore as hell from spending the entire night sleeping while sitting(short naps are ok this way though) more tired than I realized yesterday
While sleeping in a recliner can be bad on the neck, if you are have any sinus/nasal congestion due to smoke, sleeping in a semi-upright position lets you BREATHE.
Never underestimate the need to breathe!
~VOW
I actually do use two pillows to form a sort of wedge that keeps my head and shoulders slightly elevated in bed. Yeah, I like breathing. So much so I like doing it even when I’m sleeping😉
Ok, so, the time is 0247 GMT as I type. Today was warm, but not uncomfortably so for working outdoors. The air quality seemed greatly improved as the day wore on, contributing, I’m sure, to the greater warmth in the afternoon.
Not much of anything exciting or important happened today at work, but while visiting the parents this evening after work, they had PBS Newshour on. Trump and Barr were festured, er featured in one segment spouting something about charging protesters with insurrection (barr) and how some people are trying to revise history to say things that aren’t true (or something like that anyway) and ruin the nation and blah blah blah.
The barr bit really set me off for a few minutes (see thread in pit if interested).
Man, this year has really sucked. I gotta figure something out cause I’m grumpy and crabby all the time lately.
Any suggestions? Other than booze or drugs or hookers. Tried the first two once or twice already and can’t afford the third.
I rely on good books to read. It’s worked for me for 62 years, why reinvent the wheel? Granted, as crappy as 2020 has been I’ve had to escape reality through books for more hours a day then previously. 12 or 14 hours isn’t unusual.
People say that exercise helps. Happy for them, my result varied. Gave it the college try but continued efforts would have cut into my reading time too much.
Doing something helpful or nice for someone else helps my cranky/grumpy some but the isolation of our current time makes that much trickier to do.
Cats (substitute your preferred species). Good coffee. An occasional Netflix or Hulu hour or two. Good coffee. Getting some sunlight every day, even just 15 minutes. Reading on the front porch works.
A wise psychiatrist I know (one I gave birth to) advises sharply limiting the news you expose yourself to and only credible sources, NYT, NPR-or similar non-hysterical ones and not too many minutes of those a day. He says otherwise it’s doomscrolling and bad for your health. Same for FB, Twitter, etc. SDMB has his seal of approval however. I mute a lot of the politicalized threads-they can become doomscrolling too.
Well, you asked.
Boo
Can I add reading posts from @BippityBoppityBoo? I often feel like I got a virtual pat on the head or sidehug when I read a lot of your posts.
And reading a book is a good idea. Just trying to hold on until Wednesday evening when a big project is due. After that it’s too late to change anything.
Like the previous posters, I’ve been enjoying books.
I’ve also been doing a lot of pencil puzzles. My preferred kind is New York Times Sunday crosswords (I’ve got books containing collections of them), but I’ve got a few of those cheap variety puzzle books too; the kind you get from the newsstand. A few crosswords, but a lot of logic puzzles, crostics, frameworks, cryptograms, and others, all ranging from the extremely simple to incredibly difficult. They’re fun, and pass the time nicely, I find.
@Dorkvader, stay busy anyway you can.
And stay healthy.
Bad health will just ruin your mood .
And chocolate helps.
Well, somehow I’ve missed this thread.
I’ve been… not sleeping (insomnia? Fuck if I know) for weeks now. Its 0002 left coast time and we just, thank God, had a brief but intense rainstorm so I stood outside and enjoyed the sounds and smells of the first decent rain we’ve had since June.
My wife cut open her thumb today doing a stupid human trick and I just bandaged her thumb up – and she thanked me by fainting (she’s one of those that faints at the sight of blood). So now I’m all jittery and that will, I’m sure, contribute to my not sleeping for a while.
This shit really gets old.
Damn, it’s after 3 a.m. Where did the time go? Guess that happens when you get sucked into the timehole of ebay. I’m looking to replace one of my vintage swag lamps. So I’ve been perusing the site. And getting annoyed. Half of the auctions don’t mention how long the chain/cord is. This is pretty important when you are hanging something from the ceiling. I need at least 15 feet. One even said “long cord”. Gee, thanks, that’s helpful. Yeah, if I really like one, I can ask the seller. But you shouldn’t have to ask about a really important part of their product. Gaahh.
I’ve fallen asleep better the last couple nights. I think I may have found that one trick nobody tells you about. You know, like you see all the time on the internet. Anyway, part of the trouble of falling asleep is that I can’t get my brain to just shut up. It wants to think about the name of that character that was in that show 30 years ago. And then spend 20 minutes trying to remember if it was that actor that played a part in a movie or was it someone else. Or think about the time Paul brought a monkey to that party. And whatever happened to Paul. When did you last hear anyone mention him. Didn’t he move to Sweden.
So, a couple of nights ago, I started thinking about a dream I had had the night before. I only remembered bits but as I thought about it, the whole dream came back to me. And then I fell asleep. Last night I thought about another dream, and it worked again. Maybe getting my brain to engage with its dream area made it relax a little. I don’t know but I’m going to try it again shortly.
I have two matching swag lamps I inherited from Gma. Love em. If you have the patience and a few simple tools, putting a longer cord and chain on isn’t difficult.
This is for you @LH75
Hope you’ve gotten home from your last day of work and are starting your well deserved retirement!
Also hope you got a great party and a gold watch. Just in case, .
