Non-Trump supporters: what’ll you personally do if he regains the presidency in 2025?

And I’m talking concrete action, not purely emotional responses.

I asked this question a month before the 2020 election, but I figured I’d ask again now. I’m fascinated to see whether four more years of events involving Trump has increased fears, among other things.

I will also be using these responses to determine whether to literally quit my job and cash out my life savings to live in a cabin in the forests of Maine.

Okay, not really, but, as I’ve mentioned in other threads before over the years, I’m interested in how people’s rhetoric and fears, as shared in debate over the internet with strangers, translate into real world action, especially when talking about something as serious as fascist dictatorships in the United States.

I think I know what you’re saying, but it’s odd that you say “still” president in 2025. He’s not the president now. If you mean, “regains the presidency” in 2025, is that more accurately what you’re asking? If yes, I’d like to change your thread title.

Oops, yeah, that’s probably better. Cut and paste error.

No problem. Easy fix. Thanks for letting me know it’s ok with you.

What I do depends on what happens after he’s re-elected. I’m an independent progressive, and for me actions speak louder than words. His re-election may not impact me at all, or it may force me to relocate, at least for four years, to another country, if that’s even possible.

Nobody can predict exactly what he will do because he’s not going to tell us until it happens, Project 2025 notwithstanding. I heard on NPR today that he’s now distancing himself from Project 2025, but you can’t believe anything he tells the media.

Well from the substantial and safe distance of the cheap side of the puddle I will pull up a deck chair, knock the top off a couple of bottles of good bourbon, fire up a couple of liberal podcasts as a sound track and laugh my ass off … until it gets really serious. And then cancel plans for a repeat circuit of the lower 48.

Truely sorry for the natives and inmates for whom this is not an option.

I live in a deep blue state, so will be somewhat insulated from his hijinx, for a while at least. I probably wont do much at first other than more closely monitor my investments - T2.0 will likely make the stock market into to another roller-coaster.

I will do whatever living my life entails like I have during the previous 8 presidential administrations.

I’m a childless cis straight white guy living in a blue state. I hunker down and hope that things get better and the economy doesn’t shit the bed between now and when I retire.

I expect no real practical change to my life. I don’t expect to be affected much either. I’d keep working my job.

I’ll briefly reminisce over what could have been and wonder if Trump, climate change, or something else will make this country and perhaps the world more miserable for the majority of inhabitants.

We moved from the US to Europe immediately after Trump’s first election. However, we still have some money saved in US accounts. If Trump is re-elected, we will immediately move those remaining funds out of the US. We will also stop dragging our feet on taking the last couple of steps necessary to finally secure our local citizenship. And we will almost certainly cancel the trip we have planned to visit family in California in Feb '25.

Concrete enough for you?

I’m curious…What concrete steps do you think Trump will have taken in the first 15 or 20 days of his presidency which will endanger you if you visit your family?
I can see why a few Americans will be in danger–all the lawyers and judges who filed cases against Trump, for example. They should flee the country before Trump’s inauguration day.
But for an average American, visiting their family in California,–what do you expect to happen?

My wife is a naturalized American citizen originally born in Iran.

If it makes you feel any better, being born in Iran, or having an Iranian-born parent, was a problem 20 years ago, too.

True story:
I live in Israel. Many refugees fled here from Iran in the 1950’s to escape persecution. A friend of mine, born in Israel, has a mother who was born in Iran, and arrived as a baby in Israel. In 2002 or so, when my friend travelled to America on business, he was not allowed to enter the US on the standard tourist visa.

His mother was not a citizen of Iran, but she had been born there (an enemy country). Therefor, he was categorized as having Iranian background, and was treated differently than any typical Israeli citizen requesting a tourist visa. The American embassy in Israel issued him a limited visa for only the specific dates and cities he had requested to visit…If he made any deviation from that itinerary, he was subject to arrest and deportation for being in the America illegally.

This.

As a senior childless white woman in a very red state, there’s not much I can do.

  • Limit my news reading to keep my BP down
  • Donate to the few local Democratic candidates in the area, and the wider Dem party as well
  • Just keep on doing what I can do to keep those I love safe and happy.
  • Hold my breath (metaphorically, of course) for 4 years

I’m hoping to qualify for citizenship in another country due to ancestry as a standby, and perhaps practically as kanickid will be college bound during the next term and also has eyes on oversees if trump gets in.

Trump has already taken revenge on deep blue states in 2016 term. The capping of property tax deductibility, and also stopped some projects such as the mass transit improvements around NYC. Trump is campaigning on revenge and not exactly happy about certain things that happened to him in blue states. Trump has spoken to suspend the constitution and also use the military. Shit can happen fast, and deep blue is the bullseye that has Trump seeing red.

Married, no children. Purple state. Planning on retiring and moving closer to a city and lower elevation in a few years. We get 30 feet of snow in the winter, and it’s getting hard to deal with

That probably won’t change. But I tell you, between Trump and climate change, it might be best to stay where we are. BUT I’m starting to have problems with the altitude, I take oxygen during the day.

We’ve discussed this. We are both thinking about retirement. A Trump presidency would force our immediate retirement. Kick his economy in the crotch.
