Hi everyone…
I was running some errands on SUBASE this afternoon when I happened to pass a couple of foreign officers. Not being in uniform myself, I nodded politely, offered a verbal greeting, and moved along. Now I find myself curious as to what country they hailed from. Their conversation sounded like Russian, but I’m not a linguist and didn’t catch much of it.
They were wearing typical short-sleeved khakis, although even from afar, I could tell they weren’t US Navy khakis, as they were… well… “lighter” than ours are. Their covers looked pretty much like US Navy garrison caps (pisscutters), but their officer emblem (an assumption on my part) was a large gold device centered pretty much directly over the forehead.
I’ve met Russian naval officers before, but have never seen this uniform. A search for Russian naval uniforms turned up little. It’s not one of these.
I only got a good look at the epaulets of one of them, and it bore four staggered gold stars, in a pattern very similar (perhaps identical) to the Captain-Lieutenant insignia shown on this page.
Sorry I don’t have much more information than this. Does anyone know of a good resource for finding pictures of military uniforms the world over? Most of what I found through my googling were WWII-era uniforms and the like…
Take care…
