In other news, my definite maybe stands. I talked to my parents last night and they have no problem with my father driving me back from our vacation early (it’s a 2-hour drive).
When would this dopefest end, or is the general feeling that it’ll end when people go home?
I have NO idea when it would end, hon. I’m staying overnight that night, since there will be no way I’m able to drive 4 hours home.
I’m not sure who else is spending the night…(HINT! Tell me if you’re sticking around, folks!)
Also. I’m leaning towards having this at Outback. However, I want to make sure our resident veggies are okay with that. Phil and/or Peta, is that cool with you? (My life is about to get crazy as HELL, so I need to firm up as many details as possible.)
Next up: a time to meet for dinner? I was thinking around 6ish. Is that good for people?
As one of the resident veggies, I’ll grudgingly go along with Outback, only on these conditions:
Everyone has to pronounce it with a Canadian accent: Ootback.
No one tries to give me crap about just getting a salad.

I’m still a maybe, and I don’t know where I’ll be sleeping that night, but I’m welcome to invitations. 
6ish is fine for dinner, I’ll be staying overnight Saturday night, and downgrade Mrs. Firefly to ‘maybe’ - this would be three consecutive weekends on the road for us, and she doesn’t hold up as well as I do under those circumstances.

If I’m there with Hubby, we’ll be there overnight, but I’m not sure where yet.
If I’m there with the Polycarps, I think they were going to drive back that night. Poly would be able to tell you for sure.

Falcon, we’re definitely staying over Saturday night. Probably leaving here at, like, 9 or 10 a.m. Saturday.
I think my dad still has his Army dress blues, and they might even be my size. Unfortunately, impersonating an Army officer is a no-no.
Put me down as undecided for now; that’s the weekend my GF moves out to go to school, so I’m pretty sure that coming down to Norfolk would mean abandoning her just before she moves all of her stuff into an unfamiliar dorm room in a strange city.
On the other hand, it means getting to meet UncleBeer and ChiefScott, a chance I’ll likely not have again for a while. (Other posters should not consider themselves excluded from my desire to see them for the first time, or again, by this remark).
Okay, let me throw out a few tenatives.
*Who would be up for a car-pool from DC-Balt down to Norfolk?
*Who, of those up for said car-pool, would not mind riding with a smoker (i.e., me; and as in, I plan to smoke on the trip)?
*Who plans to stay the night there, and would be up for splitting the hotel bill? (I may have a job, but that don’t mean I’m rich.)

Okay, I suppose I’ll accept Outback ONLY to preserve my dear friend Falcon’s sanity…they do have, like, mega-huge desserts there right?
Ootback sounds fine. I love those baked sweet potaters. 6:00pm should work for me. I’m certainly staying the night. If I judge by my alcohol intake at any of the past meetings, I’m gonna be far, far too drunk to drive. Are we all gonna try to stay at the same hotel? That seemed to work pretty well previously.
From Atlanta it looks like 510 miles as the crow flies and about 575 miles if I stick to the pavement. And here’s the really fucking bizarre thing. For the crow again, it’s 511 miles from Norfolk back home to Toledo and 650 paved miles. Odd.
I am up for said car-pool, despite the fact that I don’t own a car . . . but I can drive just fine.
I don’t mind riding with a smoker so long as said smoker doesn’t hack up lungs on the way down.
However, I don’t plan to spend the night. If someone can drop me off around Vienna Metro when the thing is done or whatever, that’d be lovely.
Well, since I just found out I got my new job, I’ll be staying at the Marriott. I know it’s a bit steep for folks…
I’m willing to make the drive down Saturday afternoon if someone wants a ride. I have a VW Golf and can comfortably fit three others in there (well, if I clean the backseat).
As far as smokers, I guess it’s weather depending – I’m not a big fan of A/C, so if the windows are open, I won’t mind, I suppose.
I don’t really plan on staying over Saturday night, as a budget is a concern of mine, but if there’s crashspace or something cheap, I’ll consider it. Otherwise, I’m up for the drive back that night (which won’t be a problem if there’s someone in the car with me to talk to so I can stay awake).
On the road of life, I’m a driver.

Falcon stayed at a hotel I picked for her BY HERSELF. I never even WENT there. In fact, it was in Raleigh (where I live) when she came down for the Dopefest here a couple months ago, and Drain was with me at the time.

Could someone please post the address of the restaurant we’re going to? That would be a big help for everyone, especially those who are going straight to the restaurant and not a hotel. And since there are four Ootback Steakhouses near there, that could be bad! :eek:

Sorry to disappoint whoever was hoping to see me, but I just found out that upperclassmen move-in at college is the day of the gathering. Looks like I won’t be able to make it.
Maybe some other time. Sorry. I was actually looking forward to meeting some - er, I mean all of you.
