This quote is great cuz I read it in his voice.
Also…“I was going to go lift weights…what?”

I keep wanting to try this line from “Dirty Work” in an elevator full of people, but I know I couldn’t get through it without cracking up — you pull out your cell phone, and say, in Norm’s intonation:
“Note to self: go to the drugstore and get some wart cream for that giant WART on my ASS.”
Back in my AIM days, that was always my Away message.
I hate professional sports but love Norm so I find this show hilarious. My favorite joke so far was the one about how some MLB player’s sister is doing much better than him in her semi-pro women’s softball league, so he was being criticized “for not being able to hit a gigantic ball thrown underhand by a bunch of girls”!
I’m torn, I don’t like sports but like Norm.
I always thought this Letterman interview from 1998 where they discussed Norm’s firing from SNL was hilarious. Two deadpan tell-it-like-it-is comics at their best.
This is exactly how I feel.
It’s funny but the crowd didn’t laugh much, but I think he was funniest there.
butchering the joke;
"If you ever have to go to the bathroom and the door says ‘gentleman’, heed not. There’s no door labeled ‘scoundrel’.
As for ‘The Sports Show’; I only saw it once. It was ok for a guy who’s not into sports.
Anywhere to watch this on the intertubes? I don’t get Comedy Central. Could it be on Comcast’s On-Demand though - I see someone mentioned on-demand but I dunno if it varies by region or provider.
I love me some Norm MacDonald. He’s such an outrageous dick - not because he’s trying to be but because he genuinely feels that way. I always lamented that his career has been nonexistant for the past 10+years; I’m glad he has another shot.
I like Norm more often than not - his short-lived sitcom, in which he played a parole officer, was actually pretty damned funny - so I’ll check this out. Thanks.
You can watch clips of it on Comedy Central’s web page, but not full episodes yet AFAICT.
Generally, if you don’t have the channel on cable, you can’t watch its programs In Demand. And that is also true if the channel is available on some higher level tier that you haven’t paid for.
I think this was a tribute to Red Buttons who used to do a similar routine at Friar’s Club roasts, reading lame jokes off of index cards.
I’m old enough to remember Red Buttons. IIRC, his usual routine at the Friar’s Club was to wax eloquent about deserving people who “didn’t get a dinner.” Not sure I can connect Norm’s routine to that.
I wonder if you might be thinking instead of George Gobel, who was super deadpan, like Norm.
Hmm. Might have to go over to the casa of one of my only remaining friends that still has real cable.
That was another one of his schticks. I could be mistaken, but I recall Buttons reading the lame jokes off the index cards. The Gobel deadpan technique is a good comparison too.
Yeah back in my high school/college days I watched a lot of SNL, and there were lots of times where I was absolutely rolling at something he said during his news bit, but the audience was near-silent. Different strokes. I enjoy his particular brand of droll.
The funniest bit I’ve ever seen Norm do is this appearance on Conan. He does his 10 minute talk with Conan, but afterwards keeps interrupting during the other guest interview, and keeps some of the same jokes running the whole way through.
The clip is broken into three parts, but if you like Norm, it’s worth watching all of them:
Absolutely love Norm MacDonald. One of the very few celebrities I will actually tune into an interview for. I smile from the time he starts talking until he stops.
“Apparently, Burt Reynolds has changed his name to Turd Ferguson.”
Thanks, that was really funny, especially ripping on Carrot Top and his movie.
