Not just any meat. Caribou Paté.

Right? There’s Atkins Diet, then there’s the Exotics. In Montreal, where my ace pal Jonathan scored me about 3 pounds of Schwartz’s Montreal Smoked Meat. Picked up a small wheel of brie at the local supermarket.

While strolling the aisles ( always amusing when I can look but not read and process solely on the basis of photos, illustrations and packaging ) I come upon Caribou Paté.

Which I am about to cut open and try.

Sounds delicious. Hope you have some decent bread!

Yum!

The closest thing I can get to that around here is Deer Jerky. (which ain’t bad, BTW)

Looking forward to a full report and a list of ingredients in said pate.

Okay well wow. The package says " Caribou with Berryfield. "

Ingredients state I just had delicious mouthfuls of Caribou, Duck, Elk and Chicken Liver.

Lordy god this stuff’s amazing. I wonder if Customs would object if I stuffed thirty or forty of these thickly laminated slabs into my bag…

Add to that the smoked beef my pal scored and I’ve just enjoyed 5 kinds of flesh in one sitting.

Carnivoratorium !!!

I need to try and find some of that stuff next time I visit home!

Where did you pick it up?

The I.G.A. down the boul from my høtel.

I’m at 1055, boul. St-Laurent O. Longueuil.

I suspect all of the larger supermarkets carry it.

Just killer stuff. I do believe I’ll lost it to Customs, but hell’s bells.

We had a caribou meatloaf at a hotel in Yellowknife last summer - it was over-salted but delicious.

As a person who lives with vegetarians, I have to say that that sounds… intriguing.

You know that “Caribou” is just a regional name for reindeer? You know, as in Santa and his sleigh? I love serving reindeer roast or casseroles and presenting them as “Rudolph”. Especially if our dinner guests are American :stuck_out_tongue:

But yeah, the meat is just yummy. The traditional Sami way of living includes reindeer farming, so reindeer meat is easily found in the better stores over here.

I often see this picture sent on email or posted to Facebook around Christmastime

Oh god yes, the British tourists went apeshit a few years ago when this happened. My friend was working at Pallas in eastern (Finnish) Lapland at that time and the place was full of Brits who apparently spent most of their time pontificating about the absolute wrongness of eating reindeer meat while chowing down on industrial-farmed broiler chicken.

Might those Brits gag on a chunk of their own hypocrisy?? If you eat meat and do not hunt and kill and dress and eat it, then you are an active participant in the Industry of Animal Harvesting.

Being all picky-assed is stooopid. Okay?
