In most places around the world Australian and New Zealand representatives conduct an ANZAC Day ceremony often accompanied by breakfast after the dawn service.
Here is a link to all the overseas ceremonies for anyone who wishes to attend. Some places now seem to restrict the ceremony to Aussie and Kiwi travellers but many like Canada are open to all.
In terms of New Zealand, those aren’t all the ceremonies that take place here, by any stretch of the imagination. I imagine it’s as with Australia – if there’s an RSA or a war memorial area around, there’ll be a service. Nearly every suburb in Auckland, for example, has one or there’s one nearby.
It’s heartening to see the list as big as it is, though. Thoughts with all my Aussie and Kiwi colleagues tonight, as well as the other Allied and Turkish people who were touched by this terrible campaign.
My daughter is at Anzac Cove this year (Anzac Cove is where the Australians and New Zealanders landed- about a mile and a half north of Gaba Tepe where they were supposed to land. The British and French landed at the tip of the peninsular). I’ve never had the opportunity to be at the service- maybe next year.
