Why are they nonsesical?
Well, just a Bush win might not, but it looks like the GOP is going to pick up two Senate seats, a handful of house seats, and at least one governorship. The Democrats have lost ground all across the board. Tom Daschle may even lose.
You can parse it any way you want, but it looks like a disaster for Democrats. Perhaps now they’ll jettison the Michael Moore/MoveOn lunatic wing of the party in time to salvage something in the midterm elections in two years.
I think the point is not why you vote for him, but where his “base” is coming from. The Democrats needed to run Jimmy Carter against Bush; they chose George McGovern.
Kerry is not conceding Ohio. This is going to drag on…
250,000 ballots.
100,000 vote gap.
Why should he concede? The last election was won by 537 votes.
Still cherishing the dream?
Ah, but I wasn’t speaking about you, unless we have met personally and I just don’t know it yet.
CNN says that Kerry will only contest if Ohio gets within 50K vote. The provisional ballots are nonsensical because they are there for those exceptional cases where there are address changes or errors in the voting record. They are not, however, there for wholesale additions to the electoral role on the day of the election.
Right, so, you would concede, in this case?
How do you know how many ballots remain?
Don’t shoot the messenger! I’m just reporting real time.
I actually see no reason for him to concede yet. Let’s see how this plays out in the morning when fuller results are in.
The Ohio Secretary of State just spoke on CNN.
The C-Span chart I’ve been following has not called Ohio, and they are now reporting that with 91% reporting, there is exactly a 100,000 vote difference between the two. There’s still a chance here for Kerry.
However, Bush has now opened an 8,000 vote lead in Iowa, with 92% reporting.
However, Kerry still has a chance. If he wins Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Nevada or Iowa, he’ll win. Other than Iowa and Ohio, he’s leading in all of them.
I’ll tell you what - if Kerry pulls out Ohio by a few thousand votes, this is going to get ugly. There was a lot of shenanigans on both sides in Ohio - enough to tie this thing up in the courts for a while.
Right now it looks like all the same states as as the 2000 election except that New Hampshire turns blue and New Mew Mexico and Florida turn red. Big diff. Bush will treat this squeaker as a mandate, as he did in the last round. Nevertheless, Alfred E. flight-suit is still the worst president in American history. The great Iraqi snipe-hunt is still the most ill-conceived war in US history. I’m ashamed for my nation tonight, but with Bush in the White House I’m used to it. I’ll post more tomorrow. HINT POSTIVE SPIN!
Kerry would need almost 75% of these provisional ballots which doesn’t appear likely. Also, this assumes that the Bush campaign doesn’t knock -out any ballots with challenges.
WELCOME TO SUNNY OHIO

He’s now taken the lead in NV as well
CNN has not called Ohio yet either. There is still some play in this fish.
Ken Blackwell is the Ohio SoS, right? He’s a Republican. Does anyone know if the Ohio Supremes tilt right or left?
Bush that is (leading NV)
