Now that had to be the lamest Ricer projct ever!

Angie picked me up after work today and we stopped by a Harris Teeter. We parked and when I got out of our car, I noticed we had parked next to a faded orange sedan with sloppily-applied bright orange Japanese stickers. There was at least one “Type-R” sticker by the left tailight and what appeared to be a partially applied “Type-R” on the left fender. Also on the left fender was something that said appeared to be a pair of Japanese characters followed by “Racing” but I couldn’t tell for sure because it evidently started breaking apart when it was applied and the end was crooked. I didn’t look to see what was on the opposite fender but it probably was more of the same.

Then there’s the matter of the car itself. It was a Volvo! My guess is someone’s father gave them the old family car and that someone decided to rice it out. How lame do you have to be to rice out a Volvo 240?

BTW: the reason we went to Harris Teeter? They have good sushi!

It’s the same reason I saw a riced out Civic SI the other day with a German license plate on the front.

Hey stupid, you don’t have a German car. And Audi’s and VWs are the only cars that having a German license plate on doesn’t make you look like a total putz. ((Of course you realize this only applies to America.))

I have a Japanese license plate on the front of my RSX-S, but I think that’s cool so… blah… at least mine makes sense.

Maybe this guy did it as a joke, in which case I think its actually a pretty funny one. Maybe this guy isn’t actually a ricer, but trying to make a joke at their expense instead.

FDISK! Someone saw your car dude!

I would be willing to bet this was a joke.

When I first got the Import bug, my only car to play with was a very beat up Volvo 265. I wanted to drop a 5.0 engine into it and start applying a few stickers.

Of course, 'cause I’m cooler than most ricers, I was planning on Nordic Runes that would have said things like “Viking Power!” and suchlike.

Ah well.

Nothing beats the oversized chrome spoiler I saw a couple months ago.

On a Kia.

Sedan.

And yes, the driver appeared to be serious.

It’s not quite as outlandish as it sounds. Back in the mid-80s the SCCA ran a racing series for lightly modified stock vehicles. There was a team that used Volvo 740 Turbo station wagons. Did pretty well, too.

Yes, Volvo has been active in SCCA and rally sports for quite some time.

The absurdity, however, of placing a Type R sticker (which should be reserved only for the legit Type R’s, or well done conversions) and what was probably a Chikara Motorsports sticker on a SWEDISH CAR is staggering.

Yeah, I’m aware of Volvos in rally racing. Tristan has it right, Japanese stickers - badly applied Japanese stickers at that - on a Swedish car are Absurd. I do like the idea of Norse stickers though.

BTW: stating wagon racing isn’t so odd. I was thumbing through a Road & Track (IIRC) once and saw an article on a rally event with VW Golfs!

Aww crap. I thought I was being all original too:( Guess I’ll have to resort to gluing actual rice to my Volvo to make a point.

No need to use real rice, just get someone who is better at applying decals next time.

(assuming that was your Volvo, that is.)
