Because there are a ton of mean, mean people out there, Eve. That’s why. I never saw the original content. I only saw the apology. I don’t know if both were one and the same, but it would seem so.
Just be happy in the knowledge they had to host their bullshit on geocities. My land! It’s an act of Congress just copying/pasting that site into a browser! I don’t even know anyone that knows how to do that, besides myself (and unfortunately, you).

I have really never figured out why someone wants to do something like this. I am a writer & have my email address on the website, and on one occasion someone sent me an email that said, essentially, “Your book is boring. Well, I’ll keep reading it. Maybe it will get better.”
My immediate infuriated response was to fire off an email that said, “You stupid slut. If it’s boring you STOP READING IT. Life is short. And speaking of which, why take the time to send me that email. . . did you really think I wanted to hear it?”
I did not send it.
I did spend a lot of time worrying about it, though. What if my book was boring? Not much I could do about it. It was already published. And maybe it was the translation (the writer was referring to the Czech edition, which I couldn’t even read, so maybe it was badly translated. Yeah, that was it. Bad translation.)
I honestly don’t know what someone gets out of that kind of thing.
BTW, something about the writing style in that apology looked spookily familiar. It was almost as if I’d read it recently. Like, here. Not that I am making any guesses.

From the tone of the OP, I was expecting a six-page screed filled with more venom and vile than a Bill Clinton Retrospective on FoxNews. Accusing someone of being another gender doesn’t really strike me as being that big of an insult; hell, half my friends could take that as a straight line and turn it into a joke without batting an eye. Is there some deeper subtext that I’m missing here?
It was just that someone was mean-spirited (and pathetic) enough to go to the trouble to try to “out” her, in hopes that they would expose her so-called “lies.” Of course their stupid page wasn’t going to hurt Eve, but it was disheartening to know that someone went to all that trouble, (in hopes of hurting her) you know?
You don’t think it was somebody on the SDMB who made a big deal of attacking transsexuality and was recently banned and threw up that site at that time, do ya?
Maybe they were talking about that other Eve.
But I must say, whatever Eve they meant, I agree with their self-assessment. Although maybe “scum” isn’t quite harsh enough.

I didn’t get much of a look at the recent thread, but there were two people we had here for a few years (one got banned - a year and a half ago? - and the other ended up leaving/asking to have her posting privileges revoked, if memory serves). I can’t think of a reason for anything to happen this late after that, though, so I’m betting it isn’t either of the individuals I “detailed”.

Personally, I’d find a six page rant, that went on and on, less disturbing because you could say to yourself “ooooookay, that wing nut hates my work and me, apparently.” shrug Whatever. A six page rant and you’d know why they didn’t like you. It may be totally irrational ramblings, but you kinda gt the general idea of why they think you’re worth writing 6 pages of venom.
But a one-sentence “warning to everyone out there” – that’s weird.
It’s disconcerting because it makes you wonder why on earth someone would do such a thing.
Like if you saw graffiti that mentioned you specifically by name and you had no idea who wrote it. Sets of the “weirdo” alarm more because of the mystery behind the motivation.
