He’s talking about making a run. Would he be a useful spokesman for the gun lobby or would he be a detriment?
Personally, I think the NRA is only slightly on the good side of wacky, and having a loudmouth who has a tendency to go off half-cocked at times would push the organization over the egde. Charlton Heston he ain’t.
NRA is too liberal in my opinion. Someone like Nugent would be good, but he’s a little loud and, uh… something for me. I think he’d give even more people the opinion that the NRA is wacky, rather than the reverse.
Check out Gun Owners of America sometime. The NRA is soft and full of compromise, and their core support seems to be Fudds (hunters who don’t care about the 2nd, as long as hunting rifles are safe).
Or he would be that much more of a liability. Case in point. I’m convinced a behind-the-scenes approach to lobbying is more effective than star glamor.
The NRA is soft. That they’re labelled as extremists constantly is absurd - they mostly cater to ignorant rednecks* who don’t want their duck guns touched. They compromise too much and don’t take principled stands when they should.
Gun Owners of America is more philosophically in line with my beliefs, however, they try to capitalize on emotion and hysteria just like the gun controllers do and I can’t support that. The way their e-mails are structured read like something from the Brady campaign. We shouldn’t stoop to their level - we are better than that.
I say ignorant rednecks because a lot of the NRA’s membership isn’t interested in the right to keep and bear arms philosophically, they just want their particular niche protected, and they’re willing to sell everyone else out to do it. Fuck them.
Thanks Senor.
Claiming the NRA is extreme just shows a complete lack of understanding, IMHO. But we’re not in the Pit so I should just stop right now.
Ted would be a better president than someone that’s willing to bargain away our rights or refuses to back a lawsuit because they’re afraid they might lose (as I’ve heard about the NRA in DC vs Heller… or was it Heller vs DC?)
But I’m a life member because they’re the only group that has any influence at all. RMGO gets some of my money, just in case they someday actually do something.
Do you not think that the clip MAY have been edited? As was Moore’s edited version of a Heston speech, when Heston miraclously changed ties in the middle of the speech?
The dialogue between Heston and Moore? Probably not. Heston practically screams, “I’m sorry but I’ll lose my job for saying it,” when probed if he regretted holding the meeting so soon after a gun crime.
Ted Nugent might be a good choice. My problem with the NRA is that they don’t agree publically with my opinion of the motivation for the second amendment. My opinion is that it was designed so that, should I find the need to shoot a police officer or a member of the United States Armed Forces, I would have the necessary means to do so. They go on and on about hunting, and protecting themselves from criminals, but never mention shooting cops.
I don’t own a gun and probably never will. (Frankly, I don’t understand the whole gun culture, but that’s just me.) But I appreciate the role the NRA can and should play in US society. I respect the fact that lots of people feel strongly about gun rights and that the NRA represents their views.
Bring that fucking loon in as President and you’ll alienate lots and lots of people like me. That was one of the great things about Heston – you may disagree with him, but he was a respectable man. Nugent is not.
Not an NRA memeber here, but I have owned several firearms, and I play guitar. Let’s say I’ve had plenty of reason to pause and listen to him over the years. Judging from his words, he’s a self-centered twerp who doesn’t advance anything besides Ted, preferably while badmouthing someone else who did him no wrong.
If you were hiring him for your band, you’d eventually regret it, and he is pretty good with a guitar. He’s nothing special with words, and you want to hire him as your spokesman?
