Nude Beaches

Are there any nude beaches (in the U.S. or elsewhere) where the standards of dress are very different between men and women? For example, a beach where women go fully nude and men wear shorts. Or where men go fully nude and women go topless.

Or are standards all over the world roughly the same?

Timid, are we?

There should be laws forcing some people to put clothes back on. Nude beaches can be very scary places.

Shame on all of you for not answering the man’s question.

Yes, brazil84, we do have nude beaches here in America. One in particular is very popular. Everyone, goes nude here and the beach is packed with beautiful and voluptuous women from all over the world, lying face up and face down on brightly colored towels to take full advantage of the warm Rhode Island sun.

However, there is an initiation for newbies, in which one fully clad member of a party of first time visitors must lead all his/her naked friends blind folded to the edge of the sea. They must then turn around, face the beach and display their nude bodies to all the other naked bathers.

Only then may you remove the blind folds. And when you do, you will immediately be overcome by the warmth and love of your fellow bathers.

The name of the place is Misquamicut Beach.

Oh. Here’s a picture of my wife basking at said beach.

Sorry, BarnOwl, even though there are no naughty bits on display, that’s still not the kind of link that some people would like having pop up on their work computer as their supervisor is strolling by. For that reason I have broken it.

Have you looked at the recent Blow Job thread, Colibri—of which I had no part? The OP got blow-by-blow instructions from various Dopers.

You have to be kidding about censoring my harmless post. But of course you’re not.

Yeah, and his wife is bangable too!

You’ve been here a while, you should know by now that a page full of text up on the screen is not gonig to get the same reaction as a picture of a lovely lady (regardless of state of dress) on someones work computer screen.

Relax!

I have read that topless Sunbathing is:

a) Legal
B) illegal but never enforced

in South Beach, Miami Beach. I do not know the SDGQ answer on which it is. I found out about this as tourist with kids in tow.

I am not sure which it is - but it is either “a” or “b” - there are plenty of topless females but I saw no true bottom-less nudity and I believe that anyone that tried it would be arrested. I looked a bit into this after giving the family an eyeful and everything I saw was variants on a and b above - but I never saw that true “nudity” was OK.

So there is a beach in the U.S. where men must wear skimpy banana hammocks and more and women may go topless… as I said whether that is in-line the letter of the law I don’t know - but it is very clearly happening.

In the U.S. these types of beaches are usually called “clothing optional.” Nudity is permissible but not a requirement. The whole point is really to do whatever you want. I’ve never heard of a place where there are different “undress codes” for men vs. women.

BarnOwl, the next part of the initiation involves passing out burlap bags and hunting snipe.

Just FYI, this is not censorship! The board has a very clearly documented policy that any page containing NSFW material has to be reached by at least two clicks, to avoid any embarrassing mistakes. I was able to see your “wife” (yeah, that’s the ticket, my wife, Morgan Fairchild) with a simple cut & paste.

I’ll vouch for this.

We have use of a beach house in Weekapaug every summer, just a few miles up the shore and across the breachway from Misquamicut. We sit on the veranda with our binoculars and spotting scopes to while away the long summer afternoons…

And it’s not prurient because you’re a Doctor, right?

Surely you have been here long enough to know about the “two clicks” rule? It’s OK to post a link, as long as the first click does not bring up an image that is not safe for a work computer. I broke your link to prevent that from happening. I did not remove it, so I hardly can be considered to have “censored” it. Anyone who wants to see it can just cut and past it into their browser and remove the space.

Having an image pop up on your computer is rather different than text, which someone has to look closely at to see what it’s about.

Please try to have some consideration for your fellow Dopers who may unwarily click a link. When in doubt, break the link so they have to call it up manually.

Thanks.

Okay.

Respectfully, that’s not what I was asking about. I was asking about nude beaches where what’s permitted or required of one sex is very different from what’s permitted or required of the other.

Well, heck - there’s a public topless beach right down the street here in Chicago that’s open to FAMILIES!!!11Eleventyone. But only the men are allowed to be topless.

Serious answer - I am not acquainted with any nude beaches, campgrounds or resorts with are nude for one gender only but open to both genders, unless they’re “private clubs” with thinly veiled prostitution.

Every nude beach I’ve ever heard of has been described as a “Clothing Optional Beach”, or campground, or what have you. All options permitted for one sex are equally permitted for the other sex, nothing required of either sex. Anyone is allowed to be any variation from fully dressed to fully nude.

Families are accepted at most such resorts, in fact, Naturism is generally a family practice. Resorts where sexual overtures amongst guests are welcome and encouraged are generally referred to as Swingers Resorts to distinguish them from the family-friendly Naturist resorts.

The only double-standard I’ve heard of for either type of resort, is that women are welcome to attend alone or with female friends but that men are not welcome to attend unless accompanied by a woman. This is a policy that generally does not cause protest at Swingers resorts. It is, however, a topic of some controversy when such a policy is applied at a Naturist resort.

I might be misunderstanding your question, but I’ve never been to any kind of do-what-thou-wilt beach where there were any kind of “standards” at all. At that certain beach in Sandy Hook in New Jersey probably 80% of everyone is naked but there will always be some men and women in bathing suits and a handful of skeevy dudes fully clothed who keep walking around for some reason.

I’d say standards of dress for men and women are very different right now. Men’s trunks continue to get longer and baggier, and women’s swimsuits get smaller and smaller–which also spills over into casual street wear as well.

One reason I enjoy nude beaches is that this double standard doesn’t exist there.

From what I gather, brazil84 also wants to know:

“…about nude beaches where what’s permitted or required of one sex is very different from what’s permitted or required of the other.”

I think he’s alluding to behavior rather than beach attire. Could you enlighten him, please?

As DrFidelius and I attest, anything goes at Misquamicut Beach, but as a a Founding Father of that locale’s Horniness Society By the Sea, I am constrained from elaborating.

Please help the man out.
