Nurse Jackie: Who's watching?

The show is growing on me. I still don’t know that I’d watch it if Edie Falco wasn’t in it though. I like Dr. Cooper – he’s zany but in a sincere way – and I like Jackie’s British doctor friend. I really like the student nurse, and that they cast an actress who’s not skinny and gorgeous.

Did you see this week’s episode yet? Eli Wallach did the best dead guy impersonation I’ve ever seen! He really looked dead.

I hope we don’t have to watch Jackie and the pharmacist fucking in every episode. Somehow they’ve managed to make illicit sex look boring.

I seem to be an episode ahead of you. Anyway, yeah. I like Coop, too. He’s got potential to be a pretty fun character. Actually, they all do.

Jackie is quickly digging herself into a pretty deep mess, though. I wonder if this show is going to get like Weeds, and leave us saying “oh c’mon! This is getting ridiculous!”

I love it. Jackie’s exactly the kind of nurse I want treating me if I ever end up in the ER–without the narcotic addiction, of course.

I’m watching it on On Demand which seems to be a week ahead of the regular airtime, so I’ll spoiler this for those who haven’t seen the fourth episode yet.

The whole storyline about the oldest daughter’s (Grace) anxiety is heartbreaking. Rather, Jackie’s reaction to it hits a little too close to home for me. I almost cried when she drew the yellow sun over the depressed picture. It makes me wonder, though, if Grace suspects her mom’s addiction and/or infidelity.

No love for the show? Mrs. Akalitus stun-gunning herself?

I’m a big fan of Mrs. Akalitus hurting herself.

Did anyone else finish watching the season? I thought they ended it on an interesting note.
Eddie found out that Jackie is married, went and got drunk at the bar her husband owns, then showed up at the hospital yelling and cursing. Then he whispered in her ear that he knew. Jackie freaked out and went straight to the PIXIS and took out three vials of morphine sulphate, drank them, and went into a dream-like state for several minutes.

Subplots were Zoe’s coma patient waking up, Mrs. Akalitus getting stuck in the elevator, and the doctor friend’s mother being brought in.
I love this show and I’m glad it got renewed for a second season.

Also, other than the addiction stuff, I don’t see that Jackie has much in common with House. He doesn’t care about anyone, she absolutely does. Sure, she’s selfish, but I think she really loves her family and is sincerely torn about the stuff with Eddie.

A question about the ending:

Why morphine? That’s what they used to kill the nurse with cancer earlier in the season, right? Was Jackie really that desperate?

I hope they don’t use Mrs. Akalitus as the comic relief so much next season. The plot where she found the baby was really sweet and it was a welcome look at another side of her personality. Much better than the constant “look at the bitch getting her comeuppance” in the other episodes.

I like it, but my SO just loves this show - it is the first thing on our DVR he aways wants to see.
The fact that nobody is perfect on this show makes it seem all the more real - and that Jackie is contantly walking on a tightrope in her personal life is interesting.

I do find it hard to believe that with a hot looking, and apparently loving husband like she has, she keeps the fact that she is married a secret and screws around with the other guy - and it seems to be more than just for the drugs. Yes, I know people cheat all the time, but it is interesting they didn’t make her husband out to be some kind of ugly/cruel/heartless jerk. Again - keeps the show different.

This is a very difficult show to describe to someone who has never seen it.

She’s also a rule breaker who does what SHE thinks should be done, regardless of whether it’s illegal or not. However, I think you’re right, she is more open about having emotions than House. He does, it’s just much harder to admit it. If he were a married nurse with kids and a guy on the side, though, he’d be Nurse Jackie (whatever that means).

I think Jackie freaked out at the end because a) she really did love Eddie, and b) she was afraid he had told her husband. Won’t she get in trouble for taking drugs out of the machine like that?

The awesomeness of Zoe is the number one reason to watch. She’s so real, so genuine, that it’s a joy to watch her. Nice little show. Jackie is pretty unlikable at times, but I loves me some Zoe.

This is somewhat admirable, that she does what needs to be done in such a matter of fact way. I like that the writers temper it tho - she also does whatever she has to do to save her own ass or get what she wants, even if it means manipulating others to think that they are the ones that screwed up. She’s a really interesting mix of honesty and lies.

I’m wondering the same thing. Also seemed she took a liquid rather than a pill - don’t those normally only work intravenously and not orally?

Although I do find the show interesting outside of her addiction and affair, these seem to be pretty integral to the ‘premise’ given the pills flying around during the title sequence. I wonder how long the show will try and stretch out the time before the inevitable discovery of her secrets, and what they will do after.

The drugs get into your system faster intravenously, but oral will do the trick. She should get in a LOT of trouble for taking the meds, but the writers have been giving her plenty of luck so far. I would imagine that would continue.

I’ve gotten emails from two different nursing groups asking me to boycott the show and write to Showtime to express my disgust, but eh. I like the show and I don’t expect it to reflect “real life” any more than I expect any other fictional drama to. Why get all pinched just because it happens to your profession? The only thing that bugs me is the donor situations because there’s enough of a problem getting donors as it is, the last thing we need are brain dead idiots thinking that shit is happening all over.

I thought the only reason she slept with Eddie was that he provided her with drugs.

Given her theft of the morphine, I would expect that the next season starts with her having lost her license, or at least having gone to mandatory rehab.

And as for the final episode, what was with Mrs. Akalitus getting stuck in the elevator and only having the number for the ER nursing station? Presumably she could have called maintenance directly or, if she couldn’t remember that number, she ought to be able to remember the number for the hospital operator, or at least 911.

I don’t think so. I think it was a lot more complicated than that. Remember when O’Hara asked her what she would do if she had to pick, and she got all flustered? Maybe it started as an opportunistic relationship, and I think she clearly is more attached to her husband than Eddie, but there is some genuine feeling there now.

For what it’s worth, the show creators believe she loves him:

Thought the show sucked at 1st but than really started to look forward to it. The last show I watched was episode 12, don’t tell me that was the last show of the season? Tell me it Ain’t so!

I know they released the finale OnDemand already, I watched it yesterday. If you saw Jackie drink 3 vials of morphine, it was the season finale.

He is hot…but taken (His BF is not a bear…but cute and I know from personal experience is very well equipped FYI…)

I assume you’re talking about the actor who plays Thor (and I agree…HAWT!).

But what’s this about personal experience? Do tell!

This is precisely the sort of morsel for which the
tag was invented.

edit… at least it would be if you were talking about the current season. Can’t believe I forgot that’s how the last season ended. :smack:
