Nurse Jackie

C’mon, I know someone else has to still be watching this show.

Does anyone else think the intern (the “Takes one to know one” guy) might turn out to be some sort of undercover investigator? It seems like most of his interactions with Jackie (when he starts them) are about drugs and usually implying that Jackie is on them. Or, at face value, he just knows she’s using and maybe after they stop hating each other they’ll be drug buddies.

I don’t think so. He’s just a gung-ho former addict. She’s wary around him and treats him like shit because she thinks he may blow the whistle on her at some point. The plot thickens with Eddy.

I don’t think so either. He was there before, zoned out on whatever, endangeringt patients. That’s a little much for an undercover agent to establish his story.
He could become an informant, on the other hand - though I don’t think so.

I think he’ll catch her in the act, she’ll seduce him, and they’ll both be stealing drugs in no time.

I’m gonna bump this because I have another question.

What’s going on with Thor’s mouth? Why are his teeth all black? Every time we see him it looks like he’s been eating black licorice and it always sort of seems like he might have something in his mouth.

I don’t think he’s an agent because he banged Jackie’s best friend. That would make him an unreliable witness.

I have a love/hate affair with “Nurse Jackie.” I love Edie Falco, but kind of hate Jackie. She’s just so unlikeable. I mean, she’s jealous when her husband goes to a movie with another woman and their daughters, but then goes back to Eddie for drugs. Why should I be sympathetic for her?

I can’t figure out if Jackie really likes Eddie or she is just using him for drugs. Of course now, she might be sleeping with him just to keep him from spilling his guts to the husband.

Anyone watch this show that actually works in a hospital?

The pilfering of drugs is a joke. Stick a hidden camera in there and problem solved. How hard would it be to track the drugs she’s stealing by asking the other nurses if they took the medicine that’s missing? This has stretched the show’s credibility a bit.

Not to mention the sex in the chapel by the doc and nurse intern. Really? Right there in the chapel? Couldn’t find a room with a lock on it?

I agree with PunditLisa. She’s not a character I root for. I root for her husband and her kids to get the hell away from her. She’s a user.

I love the show, and although I know what she does to her husband is worse, I really have a problem with her using other employees pin #s to get drugs.

Thor has old fashioned, metal braces, with elastics that link the bottom and top together. I had them as a teenager. Not fun!

Just watched episode 7.

I love Zoe and Gloria Akalitus more each episode. Both great actors.

I also love Kevin which automatically makes me hate Jackie and Eddie. It’s hard to pick who I hate more. It’s bad enough Jackie cheats with Eddie, but for Eddie to make friends with Kevin is just sick.

I tend to side with Jackie about Sam. He was a loser when he was stoned, but he’s a loser and kind of an asshole now.

Stealing drugs in a hospital? OMG! Could this happen?! Forgive my cackling laughter! I’ve been a nurse 30 yrs., and yes, Virginia, people quite frequently steal drugs. P.O. drugs (pills), parenteral drugs (injectable), syringes, needles, the list could go on and on. Cameras (and monitoring personnel) may be in some key areas but are too expensive to put everywhere.
Sex in the chapel? Sure! (and the guy is a nurse, not an “intern” or “nurse intern”.) You’d be surprised how hard it is to find a lockable room in a hospital. The pharmacy is usually one of the few places that is locked.
I’ve posted on this before, but yes, most of these incidents are absolutely realistic, and I have seen most of them happen on multiple occasions. Have you noticed that one of the creators of the show is a registered nurse?
In fact, one of the things that I find that is not quite realistic is the fact that there was more than one gay nurse working in the ER. (last season–the guy they let go & Thor). I’ve never found nurses that are men (pleeeeze don’t say “male nurses”!) are more likely to be gay than men in any other profession. Other than that, the only real fallacy on this show is the fact that Jackie can actually go on a lunch break. That rarely happens with real nurses! Sorry, Stink Fish Pot. This show is pretty much spot on.

Very funny episode. Akalitus was hilarious. Can we assume that Jackie is going to scam her best friend out of the money to support her $600/mo drug habit?

Yup, she will. I’m hoping with Eddie back at the hospital pharmacy he’ll supply Jackie before she spends most of the money, but sooner or later O’Hara is going to find out. So is Kevin.

I’m surprised O’Hara doesn’t already know about Jackie’s drug problems. She seems too observant and savvy not to.

And how is it Jackie has worked at that hospital for 20 years and almost no one knows she’s married, and the whole time she’s been married her husband never once stopped by and said “hi, I’m Jackie’s husband, is she here? Gotta talk to her for a sec.”

You raise an excellent point. I’m not watching this season, but this was explained in a thread from last season, I think with a cite from an interview with the creators. Jackie hasn’t been at this hospital for 20 years. She’s worked at different places, and if I remember right, one of the places was where she knew the nurse/friend who died last season.

There had been complaints that this was never explained in the show, because yeah, if she’d been at one place all these years, her co-workers would know she’s married. Do they even know she has kids? I can’t remember.

I remember the episode you’re talking about, and I got the impression Jackie, Akalitus and the crabby old dying nurse had all worked together, and I’m almost certain Akalitus has been at that same hospital her whole career. Can’t prove it though.

Akalitus had to know Jackie had a husband and kids. It’d be in her personnel & medical insurance files, if nothing else. I think Jackie asked Akalitus for the name of a good child psychologist one time. I’m pretty sure everyone knows Jackie has kids now, but she’s made it pretty clear to Zoe for instance, she doesn’t share any details about her home life.

Yes, but she messed with him in the last episode. He asked Akalitus for permission to take an hour out and she denied it. He then asked Jackie, explaining that he wanted to get his six-month chit from AA or NA and she told him OK. But then she went to Akalitus to complain that he was out of the office without explanation.

It wouldn’t be in her personnel file – it’s illegal to ask those questions. It’d be in her medical insurance file only if Jackie elected family coverage.

Yeah, that was a total dick thing to do, but I’m record as hating Jackie so I’m covered. Akalitus had reason to be angry with Sam even if he did get Jackie’s permission, after she’d already said “no”.

Okay, but what are the odds she wouldn’t have family health insurance? I’m guessing Kevin can’t provide it with the bar, and why would he when it would have to be cheaper through Jackie? Where do the kids get checkups and vaccinations for school and such? Kevin’s never taken the kids to the doctor?

Small odds, but a possibility. It’s more likely that benefit enrollments are handled by someone other than Akalitus, or even outsourced.

At the last place I worked, I was the only one who saw enrollment forms, and that was all I saw – the carrier handled the claims. All the manager was interested in was the total cost. Processing benefit forms is clerical work, and Akalitus is a manager.

Jackie could have family coverage without anyone knowing, or without realizing that having a family doesn’t jibe with what she tells people about her personal life.
