Nutella. What is it good for/on?

As another Wisconsin native, I can attest to the fact that Nutella is available (at the very least) at Woodman’s, and sometimes Target.

I try to forget that fact, though, because I tend to attack it with a bag of pretzel sticks and come out hours later with a sugar buzz and a half-empty jar.

My mum successfully used it by heating it in the microwave and pouring over the top of a baked cheesecake.

Other than that - I reserve it mainly for toast.

I used it recently in a quick dessert recipe from Rachel Ray. Buy a pound cake, cut in half the long way and slather both sides with Nutella. Stick the pieces back together, cut in slices. Serve with whipped cream and fresh raspberries. Well, she did her whipped cream with orange liqueur but I didn’t have any. It was fabulous.

We usually have it on toast, or just on a spoon if time is of the essence.

You would not believe how good Nilla Wafers + Nutella is. To this day I’m not sure if I hate or love my cousin for that idea…

It’s even in the news:

**L’AQUILA, Italy , July 9 /PRNewswire/ **-- *Leaders from Canada , France , Germany , Japan , Russia , the United Kingdom and the U.S. gather in Italy for the G8 Summit this week to discuss the global economic crisis, climate change, world trade – and what’s for breakfast.

The official cook of the Italian national soccer team, Claudio Silvestri, is in charge of breakfast Friday and plans to serve a staple from Italians’ breakfast tables for nearly 65 years – Nutella®. The roasted hazelnut and cocoa spread will be offered in the traditional manner on bread accompanied by milk and fruit. Fortified by this nutritious breakfast, it is hoped, the world’s leaders will be ready to tackle the globe’s pressing issues through the rest of the day.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve this special ‘world champions’ breakfast’ on this occasion,” said Silvestri. “I selected fruit and milk along with Nutella® spread on bread to provide the G8 leaders with a balanced breakfast to sustain their energy throughout the day.”*

WAR ! doo doo do doo do do

Say it again…

I’m dreadfully sorry I don’t know what came over me, I’ll get my coat.

There’s one correct answer to this question: crepes

Many years ago, someone in this board suggesting walking around the streets of Paris and finding a place that sold crepes with Nutella and coconut. I did it… Awesome bliss for this extreme sweet tooth!

When and where I was a kid, they used to sell small packets of Nutella, with a little plastic spatula. The idea was, of course, that the way to eat Nutella was to just open the packet and spoon it with your little plastic utensil… and then of course, eat it.

Man, I miss those things, and they were cheap (a quarter)! Cheap chocolate candy fix!!!

So yea, just put a spoon in the jar and eat it that way.

I use it in bread and butter pudding - add it to the bread after the butter.

They were one of my favourite treats too. There’s one particular stretch of unremarkable street that always made me feel happy because it was so strongly connected with my taste memories of walking down there in a happy daze, plastic Nutella spatula in my mouth, having got my treat from the only shop that sold it.

I get the same urge whenever I see ‘What is it good for?’.

For weeks I’ve been avoiding going to the market. No American cheese? I just won’t have a grilled cheese sandwich. No eggs? Who needs breakfast anyway? No ground beef? Meh, I’ll have spaghetti later. No peanut butter…? Well, maybe I should start thinking about going to the store. Maybe. Out of Nutella? Hm… Well, it is right next to the peanut butter. I guess I’ll have to buy groceries today.

BLASPHEMER!

Wonder BREAD is the Devil’s Spooj.

I survived on Nutella during my first trip over to Germany with my future husband. It is the food of the Goddesses!
You can buy it at any megamart now, usually in the peanut butter section, top shelf.

This is a Jamie Oliver trick.

Make up a white bread dough. Prove it, then roll it flat but not too thin. Spread thickly with Nutella and slice banana onto it. Roll up into a pinwheel, leave to rise, then bake.

Slice and enjoy

Si

Inspired by this thread, I put Nutella on my morning pancakes. Delicious, but IMO the Nutella needed to be thinned just a tad–not like syrup but less like peanut butter. With a cold glass of milk–heaven.

When I was a kid my dad and uncles liked peanut butter on their pancakes. (I liked it too, but never made it a habit.) That’s why I suggested Nutella on pancakes. Peanut butter will melt on pancakes, so it was never ‘thinned’. Did the Nutella not melt? I thought it would.

Thanks for the plethora of suggestions. I tried it on fresh strawberries last night, and that was most nicely comestible. More adventures are planned!

I’m a big fan of nutella on bagels. Mmmmmmm. Nutella rocks.

I like it in a sandwich with peanut butter, but my favourite is on hot crumpets.

Though I imagine that if you can’t usually get Nutella, you’re SOL on the crumpet front, too.

The Nutella label clearly says “Do not refrigerate or microwave”

Personally, I prefer my Nutella with peanut butter.

I haven’t tried Nutella with peanut butter; but since Nutella is chocolate hazelnut butter, it seems the two together would be a little nutty.

I assure you, mass-produced mayonnaise (and mayonnaise-like products) are the Devil’s spooge. I won’t tell you what wonder bread really is, it’s TMI.
