Nuts to you!

Almonds (roasted, salted) and pistachios are my favorites to eat by themselves. I buy the big bags of 'em at Costco.

I like pecans and walnuts in pies and pastries and such. I’ll probably make a batch of divinity with walnuts this weekend.

nothing evokes the christmas season more than the smell of the roasted almonds that were sold at the local mall where I grew up. Can’t remember what they were roasted in though–honey, cinnamon or possibly nutmeg. Maybe I should verify that soon.

Yes! Just what I came in to post. That’s my favorite nut/chocolate combination ever. I agree; hazelnuts are the best nut.

If you can’t find Baci hazelnut chocolates, they make a chocolate bar which has all the same flavor components as the round chocolates. I just bought one yesterday and my husband and I devoured it by last night.

Other favorite nuts, in order:

Pistachios
Cashews
Macadamias
Big, fat Virginia peanuts (Hubbard’s by choice)
Marcona almonds

I always liked nuts, but tried mixes and they always have too much peanuts or almonds in them. I like spicy nuts, and noticed that the produce section in wallmart has a lot of different spicy nuts. So I get a bunch of different kinds about once a month, and mix them together.

Cajun Pistachios (these are the only ones that come unshelled, It takes a while to peel them, but it’s worth it)
Cajun Cashews
Cajun Peanuts (not too many)
Habanero almonds (Diamond)
Siricha peeled pumpkin seeds

Mix together in a tubberware bowl with a lid, and i’m set for a month or so.

Pecans, in pecan pie, or sautéed with a little bacon grease and tossed with green beans with light Asian dressing, or in pancakes, or in pralines or bourbon balls, or just raw by the handful.

Walnuts in fudge or fruit salad.

My favorite shifts between cashews and pistachios, depending on my mood. Hazelnut flavoring is good, but there’s something about the whole nuts themselves that just doesn’t taste right to me. My most-eaten nut is the humble peanut, but that has a lot to do with price. Most other nuts, I don’t make much distinction between, though almonds work better in chocolate than most of them do. Oh, and almond extract is much better than the nuts themselves.

Walnuts are my fave, followed by roasted and salted macadamias.

Pecans and hazelnuts HAVE to roasted/toasted in order to improve their taste AND texture, especially the latter. It’s a bitch skinning hazelnuts, but I saw a technique that boils the shelled nuts on top of the stove, with baking soda added to the water, seems much more efficient(still have to be roasted afterwards)

I like Brazils, the radiation doesn’t bother me as much as the almost-toxic levels of selenium(seems you shouldn’t eat more than one or two a week)

Pistachios? Love the Iranian ones, wouldn’t give you a dime for a truckload of those tasteless impostors from California.

Peanuts. In the shell. Roasted as darkly as possible without scorching.

Chestnuts are WAY overrated, the “Christmas Song” and sidewalk roasted chestnut vendors hawking them to clueless passersby notwithstanding. The imported ones are rather bland, and since there’s no longer the American version(although botanists are trying their damnedest to bring it back) we’ll just have to roast what we can get and let nostalgia get us through.

I think you mean, this Ritter Sport Bar, right?

Yeah… it’s a good alternative.

Second the Marcona almonds. They’re a great treat too.

If I’m eating nuts, plain, my order of preference is: peanuts, pistachios, cashews, almonds, and walnuts. Not crazy about any other nuts. I have never eaten a Brazil nut and never will.

Nutist.

#1 is cashews…plain, salted cashews. YUM! There really isn’t a nut I don’t like. Love somkhouse almonds, roasted peanuts, you name it. Great snacking!

Do you like Cashews butter too, I like it better than peanut butter. Cashews nut yummy !
