NY Yankees, win/loss ratio in World Series

Quick question here-- how many times have the Yankees won the World Series, and how many times have they lost the Series (if ever)?

The Yankees have won the World series 26 times and lost it 13 times.

These numbers are likely to change within a week, since the Yankees are one win away from being in the World Series again.

Thanks. My dad used to take me to Astros games as a kid, back in the Seventies. This of course left me completely disinterested in professional sports, but the question came up tonight.

The Cardinals are the only National League team that has played the Yankees more than once in the Series that has a winning record against them.

Yankee records in the Series against NL teams:

Dodgers (Brooklyn/LA) 8-3
Giants (NY/SF) 5-2
Cardinals 2-3
Braves (Milwaukee/Atlanta) 3-1
Cubs 2-0
Pirates 1-1
Phillies 1-0
Padres 1-0
Mets 1-0
Diamondbacks 0-1
Marlins 0-1

Oops, left out:

Reds 2-1

The amazing thing about this is that the Yankees have appeared in about one out of every three Series and have won over one out of every four of them over the last 120 years.

Haj

There have been 99 World Series played since 1903. (There were other “World Series” played in the 19th Century, but they were not NL-AL matchups. There was no World Series in 1904 and 1994.) The Yankees have appeared in almost 40% of them and have won more than 25%.

The Yankees have also faced every National League team that has made it to the World Series.

That could change if there is a Red Sox-Astros series.
