The Yankees have won 1 World Series since 2001. Think about that

That’s alarming in Yankeeland, where Yankees must win the World Series every year or the season is a failure.

1 World Series since 2001, in 2009.

Think about that.

The Yankees historically win the World Series too often, from the standpoint of fans of pretty much every other team in MLB. This fact has seemed to cause a mindset among their fans, IMO, who have the expectation that their team should win the Series every year.

Speaking as a Brewers fan (one World Series appearance, 38 years ago): my heart, it bleeds for you. :stuck_out_tongue:

Also, I’ll note that the Yankees haven’t won (or even gotten to) the World Series since George Steinbrenner died. Just a coincidence, of course.

Two World Series in 20 years is quite good.

As a Rangers fan, can’t feel any sympathy.

I knew they shouldn’t have let that Ruth fella retire so early

Cry me a fucking river.

They’ve won 1 but they’ve been competitive in other years, which is what really matters. Even if you don’t win it all, it gives fans a reason to watch. Wins = asses in seats.

Surely the worst Yankees drought was 1979-1995. In addition to there being no World Series wins in those years, the Yankees hid their modern nadir, really; the 1989-1992 teams were depressingly boring and crappy. Attendance was mediocre, the teams were really bad, and at one point they were managed by a man named “Stump.”

In the same period the Mariners have zero playoff appearances. 2001 was the last time, after a 116 win season. (It was the Yankees who beat us in the playoffs that year, if I recall correctly)

Oh, I should add the Mariners have never been in a World Series game, let alone win it all.

But this year was going to be different…

Aren’t the Mariners now the only team to never make it to the World Series? I know I could google but it’s more fun to wrack my brain, I’ve got plenty of time on my hands

Yes. The only team.

This year was going to be worse.

They’re still in building mode.

I know. But since it’s not happening, I plan on relishing the undefeated season as long as possible.

Good point. Seattle’s perfect season.

In both 2000 and 2001, in the ALCS. In both years the Mariners were the superior regular season team.

just goes to show that you need smarts along with money.

The Yankees have won 1 World Series since 2001. Think about that.

Thanks for brightening up my day!

As there are 30 teams in MLB ~2/3 of a win is the “expected” number of WS wins. The Yanks are ahead of schedule over the past 19 years.

Back in the Bronxian Dark Ages*, the Des Moines Register had a sports page cartoonist who was evidently a diehard Yankees fan. Every fall, he would do a cartoon based on the theme “An official World Series must have the New York Yankees in it.

Unsurprisingly, a vast number of people did and do not share this angst, along with a ton of football fans who don’t care if the Dallas Cowboys lose, and at least an equal number of NBA devotees who are not pining because the Knicks stink.

*roughly 1965-75.

No, to Yankee fans like me, it is unacceptable. The Yankees have to win the World Series every year in a sense to stay relevant.
