You know this is true, I know this is true. Unfortunately there are multiple leaders in the party leadership (as well as some posters in this thread) who would prefer a corrupt, Trump-kowtowing POS or a disgraced, sexually assaulter over a young, charismatic, progressive candidates.
Fox News is comparing social housing with shared laundry rooms to kommunalkas, but still somehow makes it sound desirable.
As opposed to the kind of apartments we see on shows like Frasier, which have… shared laundry rooms..?
Don’t all apartments have shared laundry rooms?
Of course not. Luxury apartments certainly don’t.
May be in the U.S, apartments in Argentina either come with a small dedicated laundry room or have no laundry room at all (I’ve lived in both versions, for the second version we had a small washing machine in the kitchen)
Yeah in Budapest we typically had washing machines in the bathroom, draining to the tub, and a laundry line to hang it on that pulled down from the ceiling (ceilings were generally like nine to twelve feet high if I had to guess).
Nope - my son had an apartment in a relatively new building in Brooklyn. Every apartment had their own washer/dryer combo ( you put the clothe in and it washerd and then dried them in a single machine) and their own water heater. But lots of rental apartments in New York don’t even allow tenants to buy their own washer.( possibly co-ops and condos as well)
Big Name Democrats do not normally endorse for NYC mayor. But in Mamdani’s case, they have endorses him.
For some reason posters keep saying that “Big names” are not endorsing Mamdani- I am not sure where they are getting that from, but it is simply not true.
Like i have said several times- that list is mostly bogus.
We’ll see how the general election goes. I’ll give Democrats one more chance.
For what? Electing him? Supporting him?
C’mon. Gillibrand lied about him and several other Democrats have, at best, said extremely mistaken things about Mamdani’s supposed feelings about Jews. Hopefully they’ll come around (and at least Gillibrand has apologized), but there was indeed an apparent coordinated campaign of criticism by Democrats in office after his primary victory.
I dont see it.
Then Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) said on CNN Saturday, “I do not associate myself with what [Mamdani] has said about the Jewish people.”
How is that a lie? Did Swalwell claim any specific statements Mamdani said?
Here is what he did say- (or part of it)
It’s unclear. Mamdani “criticized Israel” after October 7, 2023 because he correctly predicted, based on prior “mowing the grass” operations and Israel’s years-long siege of Gaza, that the Israeli government would kill thousands of Palestinians, which turned out to be entirely correct. In his October 8, 2023 statement, Mamdani mourned the “people killed across Israel and Palestine” while adding that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s “declaration of war” will “undoubtedly lead to more violence and suffering… The path toward a just and lasting peace can only begin by ending the occupation and dismantling apartheid.”
So, that is a criticism of israel and Netanyahu. Who are jewish people. Okay, it was criticism about specific Jews yes, but still it wasnt far off.
He said that while he sympathizes with some people’s visceral reaction to the word “intifada” and its associations with violence in Israel — and made clear that he had never used the phrase himself — he refused to denounce it because, he argued, doing so would be to effectively denounce the Arabic word for “resistance,” which he wouldn’t do.
That’s weaseling. It’s like saying you wont condemn the swastika as it was used before the Nazis. And sure, literally that is what intifada mean, but Mamdani is a smart man, he knows the difference between denotation and connotation, and that wort has taken on a connotation far beyond its literal meaning.
And yes, you can condemn Israel and its policies without being anti-semitic (I have done so here). But that line is pretty fine, and if you dont condemn terrorism/Hamas also (which I always take care to do so also), it does seem like you are being pretty one sided.
I think Mamdani might be a good mator, better than the GOP candidate for sure. But in a city with a large jewish population, maybe he should come out and condemn terrorism and Hamas.
Kampf just means Struggle in German, you Deutschphobic monster!
Exactly.
In the UK you would find it hard to sell or let a flat (at least not at the rock bottom end of the market) without a washer/dryer, be it under the kitchen counter or (luxury!) in a separate utility room. But I can see the logic of discouraging it, from a landlord’s point of view - diminishes the risk of expensive repairs if/when machines flood.
Heh:
In his defense, he does seem to be pretty stupid. Thinking that “Black/African American” included people just born in Africa could have been an honest mistake for him. Though maybe he could have asked his dad, who is a professor of African studies at Columbia.
He has condemned Hamas and terrorism, many, many times. He’s never said a single negative thing about the Jewish people. Swalwell just straight up lied.
I totally get the issue of trying to fill out forms when you don’t easily fit into one box, but when in doubt there’s always “Other”.
Have we talked about the right totally losing their shit about Mamdani eating rice with his fingers? You know, like literally hundreds of millions of people do?
