Apparently, I R.S.V.P.'d with less vigour than most. I intend to be a party to, besides Billdo’s brunch. the Friday night gathering (air carrier being most willing, this time) and Saturday night at America.
And I’d most like to join you, GeoBill, for the tour of the Museum of Natural History.
Billdo, I know that lindyhopper is going to be there for the Thursday night dinner &, I think, the Sunday Brunch, but he’s offline until Jan. 1st. You can put him under “coming down the chimney”, though. Trust me on this one. (I just don’t want him to not be RSVPed, because he’s out having a good computer-less time! :D)
Sorry, I haven’t re-checked this thread for a few days.
Morgyn, one block west of AMERICA, on 18th street just west of 5th avenue, around a third of the way down the block between 5th and 6th, are these book- and cd-shops. There’s one for kids, called BOOKS OF WONDER, on the south side of 18th street, and close by on both sides there are some for adults, too. I can’t remember what they’re called just now (I just pop in them when I’m down there) but you can’t miss 'em. They’ve usually got their dollar carts out in front on the sidewalk in case you don’t notice the marquee signs.
TP, as I mentioned in the other thread, and on the previous page in this one, Lindy is coming and we are staying with him.
He’s out of town until the 1st, but I believe he’ll be in NY until the 5th or 6th, so I think he does intend to do Brunch.
Barring our car not being towd at any point, we’ll be leaving just after the Brunch as well.
(Out of curiosity, has anyoen heard from CajunMan and DrMatrix? I heven’t talket to them in a good month, so I’m not sure if they will make it or not.)
It doesn’t look as if they will be coming, but there is always hope. If there is a change and you two are coming, there’s still room on my garbage strewn floor for you.
Oh, dammit! The one bright spot in your moving out to Rock Island was the thought that you’d be back for a visit in January to regale us with stories of you and Doc in the midwest.
You’re thinking of Academy Used Books. Which, unfortunately, has been closed for over a year now, leaving Books of Wonder as the only bookshop on the block. Academy Used Records and CDs is still there, however.
I’ll probably be in NYC for New Year’s and through the 5th, so count me in for thursday, friday, sat pm, and sun Bagel Brunch Ball. I would love to join the Geo-Bill crew on saturday for the MONH but I won’t commit yet. Happy Holidays All!
Count me in. I’ll be joining y’all for Friday and Saturday nights. Last I heard, Kyla, DynoSaur and I were going to be at the brunch. Talk to Dyno, it’s his car. Jebus, I can’t believe we’re driving from the midwest to hang out with you weirdos.
Damn! It felt like I was just there a few months ago, too. I thought there was at least one grownup used books store on the south AND the north sides of 18th? Am I misremembering, or have they ALL gone out of business?
Well, at least we’re not too far from the Strand and the few remaining bookstores on 4th Avenue.
Yes for me on Korean, and most probably on the bagel brunch. I doubt I’ll be making the Saturday afternoon stuff, but I’ll be there for the evening stuff both nights.
I might be bringing my offline friend and coworker, Vinnie. I’m breaking the news that this is a Dopefest, rather than “Let’s go to New York City,” to him very slowly and gently. I just didn’t want to make the drive and train ride down there alone, y’know?
And fizzy and I, barring, again, the unforeseen, are definite no-gos. For those who’d want to help us get there, the reason is not financially-based. It’s simply that she’s not comfortable in a crowd of much of any size. DaW was difficult for her, and we got there early specifically so she could get used to an increasingly large (but not huge) crowd. This, however, is another beast entirely.
