You sure you won’t wind up at 34th, Risha? Seems more likely for NJ. PATH from Hoboken?
I can come either day via Penn Station or the PATH. Do we have enough spots in a vehicle (and where)? Can take the subway if needs be.
My general theory would be that the train commuters would meet up, and then proceed by subway. Why bother with a car?
I could take PATH, but only if I wanted to drive to Hoboken first. I usually take the train from Dover, which comes into…
checks online
oops, you’re right, that’s 34th St. Penn Station, not Grand Central. I told you I don’t do this much. If I’m the only one coming into there, though, I can probably get myself over to meet up with the rest of you without too much angst.
Are we going to Brooklyn or Manhattan? Has that been decided?
If Manhattan, I will be part of the train brigade, if Brooklyn, I would probably drive, the train ride takes forever from my neck of the woods.
So, if Brooklyn, I can offer some rides into the city, I would be going via Staten Island.
Jim
We’re going to the G, right? So, it’s the 7 or the E or V to the G, and the E and V are 34thish, while the 7 is 42ndish.
Brooklyn, man.
See, this is as incoherent as it comes to an upstater.
OK, the few people who have emailed me, have all professed a leaning towards a Saturday cookout in the afternoon, then going to see this concert.
This is at the bandshell in Prospect Park. (11th St and Prospect Park West) There are picnic area and BBQ areas there as well. The concert is only $3. It starts at 7, I would imagine getting there by 6, so we can cook out at my place starting around 1 or 2.
How does that sound to people?
From Grand Central,
Take the 4 or 5 downtown to Fulton Street, transfer to the Brooklyn bound C train to Clinton/Washington. Since the 4/5 are express trains, travel time is about 20 mins.
What about from Jamaica? If we’re doing Brooklyn, since I’m on LI, I’d prefer to take the train, and the easiest way (I think) would be to take the LIRR into Jamaica and pick up a subway from there but I don’t know what trains run out of there.
Help!
If coming on the LIRR.
You can take it the the Atlantic Center Station, and then it’s a little walk to my place. I can meet you at the station or you can call and I’ll talk you through it.
Or you can EMAIL me and I’LL give you my exact address so you don’t have to just guess. I mean Brooklyn is a pretty big place.
Aww, yeah. Now that sounds like a good time.
I’ll know closer to the date if I’ll be able to attend versus family obligations. I’m in Queens, not to far from the Jamaica LIRR, and I can transport some. We just need to keep this thread bumped so that I don’t get scheduled, or at least have an out from whoever’s baby shower / birthday party is that weekend.
thumbs up
A hearty DUH to myself for not thinking of taking the train to Flatbush Ave. Duhhhhh.
Personally, my vote would be to forego the concert. My experience has been that the best dopefests have been those where people have had an opportunity to sit around and carry on a conversation. And a concert obviously isn’t going to be that.
But if this is what people want, I’m in anyway.
Hey, all.
I can come for the cookout (thanks again, Zebra, for hosting it at your place!) but I can’t come to the concert.
It’ll be great to see many of the Dopers from the NJ Dopefest, and I’m looking forward to meeting everyone else who’s coming to this shindig, too!
I second Little Nemo’s post.
C’mon, guys. Lou Reed. How many more chances will you get to hear him? We’ll have a great time beforehand, and then the concert for the evening.
(Note: It starts at 1, the concert starts at 6. We’ll have time to hang.)
I’m looking forward to the cookout but I am unfortunately unable to go to the concert. Are we going to have a potluck kind of sign up sheet deal for the side dishes so we all know what the others are bringing? I would hate to show up and have 9 bowls of baked beans or something like that.
