NYC SDMB Redux?

Maybe I’m missing something, but are we planning to dissolve Cap’n Crude’s naughty bits in a heated vat of acid?

In that case, I’d say we should definitely pick a restaurant somewhere in the East Village.

Oh, my God. I am so embarassed right now.

Cap’n: I am not planning to dissolve your family jewels in a vat of acid. The two thoughts were totally separate and had NOTHING to do with each other. I apologize. I will drink Shirley Temple’s at the December meeting to control myself.

Flora, you were such a good influence until you joined the popular crowd!

(Cap’n Crude’s scrotum peeks out from behind the corner)

Is it safe to come out? Is the acid gone?

(Cap’n Crude’s scrotum ducks back)

Saxy/Mel, drink whatever you want – but I get final say on whether or not you can pour it on me…

Well, the Chicago folk gave me an idea–anyone mind if I bring a camera? I have a feeling it might be needed for evidence in the ensuing lawsuits . . .

Flo, I don’t mind if you take photos for personal use, but if you put them up on the internet, I would be upset. I think if someone wants to know what we look like, s/he should come to New York and buy a round of drinks for the privilege.

Cap’n, I am still so embarassed, I will be the one at the table with a bag over my head. I promise not to even look in the direction of your scrotum.

Saxy, you can look all ya want. My scrotum and I would, in fact, appreciate the attention. I’ll just be keeping a box of baking soda handy for any unforeseen mishaps.

We shall drink, eat, drink, be merry, and drink some more!! The question remains: WHERE?

Well, Cap’n, Flora and I are meeting tonight. Would you care to join us (wink, wink)?

Otherwise, I think we’re still waiting for CM Keller and his kosher restaurant list.

As long as I can get a vodka tonic, I’m happy.

Woo-hoo!! You, Flora, and vodka are three of my favorite intoxicants. Alas, I’m booked for this evening. In fact, I should be busy for most nights until our gathering. :frowning:

Drink some o’ that potato-likker for me, yes? See you soon.

Well, here’s a list of Kosher restaurants in or near midtown Manhattan…

One of my favorites is Dougie’s BBQ, which is located in W. 72nd Street. It’s a little bit further up than most people consider midtown, but if it’s an agreeable location, I can vouch for the food, and the prices are reasonable (or at least I think so…I don’t know how it compares to non-Kosher prices)

If true midtown is important, I can recommend the following:

Kosher Delight, 37th & Broadway. Fast food, Deli and Chinese dishes, affordable. Ambience is a bit no-frills, but otherwise no reason not to recommend.

Mister Broadway is right across the street from it. It’s more expensive and doesn’t have the Chinese menu, but does have a bit more of a “restaurant” (vs. fast-food place) feel.

In the mid-50’s on 2nd Ave., there’s a Chinese place called Glatt Dynasty.

Someone earlier mentioned the village. If anyone’s truly interested in that option, we can go with the Village Crown, which is in the east village and has mediterranean-style food.

There are probably a few others I haven’t thought of, but what do you folks think of those possibilities?

And BTW, Flora…I think my wife would object to that
…but don’t think I’m not flattered.

Well, I’m off later today, won’t be back till Dec. 6–anything you guys decide will be OK by me (though midtown would be more convenient).

I’ll check back when I return to see what plans have been laid by all you mice and men; hope they don’t gang aglee.

Look purty, I’ll bring my Kodak.

Hmmm, no decisions yet? Well, I’ll check in when I get back.

If a crazy Egyptian pilot plows me into someone’s cornfield, raise a glass in my honor . . .

Here are some other kosher restaurants that look interesting according to Nina and Tim [url=http://www.zagat.com]Zagat . Any thoughts?

Abagael’s: 37th St. bet 5th and Mad, New American, Food Score = 18, Price = $36

Haikara Grill: 2nd bet 53/54th, Japanese food, Food Score = 21, Price = $40

Le Marais: 46th bet 6/7th, French/Steak, Food Score = 20, Price = $41

Wolf & Lamb Steakhouse: 48th bet 5/Mad, Steak, Food Score = 19, Price = $33

Livin’ on Tums, Vitamin E and Rogaine

Well, I’m headed off to Hawaii  and probably won’t be checking back here from Sunday night until next Saturday night. Please, if anyone’s got any preferences, post them by then.

Chaim Mattis Keller

Okay, ladies and gents, time to haul this back up to the top, shit or get off the pot.

After perusing CMK’s and manhattan’s lists of suggestions, I say we go for The Wolf and Lamb, 48th between Fifth and Madison. Just for the name. I love the name.

Six PM, Wednesday the 8th.

Anyone want to argue? I’m open for arguments. Just as long as we eventually come to an agreement.

I’ll stroll by the joint tomorrow afternoon and scope it out for things like table-space, barroom atmosphere, etc., and get back to you.

Uke

Subject to you passing on it after the stroll-by, I’m in.

Livin’ on Tums, Vitamin E and Rogaine

Yeah, me too. Thanks for making the decision, Uke.

Ho-kay.

Just came back from casing the Wolf & Lamb, which reminded me of the moon. No atmosphere. (rim-shot)

As much a deli as a restaurant, with exposed brick walls (making for a lot of “What? What did you say?”), uncomfy chairs, paper tablecloths, no cozy concealed corners. And a pastrami sandwich’d set you back $13.50.

The real killer, though: NO BAR. Nuff said.

Looking back at the suggestion lists: I’ve been to La Marais…definitely an expense-account joint. Good food, attractive room, but tres chic and VERY expensive. Haikara: Flora hates Japanese, and 2nd Ave is a bit far to the east anyway.

I’ll check out Abagael’s tomorrow, if Melanie will walk down to 38th with me. I need help batting the tourists away.

Uke

Hey, how about Ratner’s? I’ve never been, and I’ve always wanted to. Or Sammy’s Roumanian? Ditto. (Is Sammy’s kosher? I know Ratner’s is.)

We could discuss the Great Questions over huge steaming flagons of schmaltz mit gribnitz.

We’d have to talk Flora into venturing south of 14th Street…

I’ll see you at 12:30 in the lobby on Thursday, Uke. But I hope you’re planning on feeding me, too, at some point.
