Oak's Bowl Pick'em 2011

I guess I did ok. Had La Lafayette over SD St. for 16 pts and Ohio for 7. Lost my 11-pointer on Wyoming.

Yes, it is.

FWIW, the SDMB sucks at Bowl Pick’em.

We got 19 players, (actually playing) and 4 games, 76 opportunities to pick winners.

We have picked 21 winners out of 76. 27.6%

No one has picked 4 winners
One player has picked 3 winners. (THRILLHO, but his lowest confidence games)
Five players have picked 2 winners.
Eight players have picked 1 winner.
Five players have been shut out.

Of course, the Yahoo Dog has won three of four games played, but thus far it is a pretty pathetic performance by the Doper pool. (and the point spread was less than a TD).

At least I am treading water in SDMB Bowl Pool of Suckitude as I am one of the five players who has picked two games correctly.

As one of the sucking masses, I agree. Compared to the regular season, bowl pick’em is hard. LSU vs Marshall (for example) – that’s easy. La-Lafayette vs Marshall: who the hell knows?

REDEMPTION!!

17 of us 19 people picked TCU!! Whoopee!

And everyone has a correct pick

Our fearless leader looks like he is back-loading is lineup. He has not changed a confidence pick from the default. My guess, he is saving the big hitters for the last games.

I was one of the ones who picked La Tech. In my other pool this counts as a win, as they covered the spread.

I cling with desperation considerable to my single point.

No Sun Devil fans in this pool. At least, none that are supporting their team with a pity pick.

Boise all the Way.

Nearly everyone has Boise well up their confidence list.

Except:

Oakminster apparently has not adjusted the confidence picks of any games. He is going with the default.

About 1/3 of way through the bowl season, after a slow start, everyone is starting to score some points!!

I am third place in actual standings, and in first place in potential points. I got 10/12 picks correct.

Our fearless leader is still going with the lazy strategy. he has not adjusted confidence levels at all. It still means that he has a lot potential points.

Cal Bears looked really bad tonight! Everytime I looked up their QB was getting sacked. Sorry JSC!

Gah, I was thinking my Air Force pick for 27 points was a win b/c they covered the spread. I guess if we aren’t factoring in the spread, I was way stupid for picking 16 underdogs.

I think I’d be 9-3 so far if I just went with the favorites straight down the line. Sounds like a strategy for next year.

As of this time, after the 12th game (Texas-California) has been posted, the standings are not in sync with the “Group Picks” numbers.

Anybody else have things in sync? Know why they aren’t?

Same problem.

Looks like they have updated the total games, but not the results from yesterday’s games.

It appears this morning that the Pick’em numbers are up-to-date.

As for the conference standings, all I have run across so far are the notes at The Best of Recruiting and High School Sports

At this time 2011–12 NCAA football bowl games - Wikipedia has yet to add that feature and they’re still not up-to-date on the latest completed games!

Have any of y’all found a better source for the conference stuff?

Just back from San Diego; I can’t believe I paid good money for that experience. It looked like our O-line missed the plane to the game.

Wow, I just a female referee in the Iowa St/Rutgers game! I think she is a line judge.

I saw an ESPN feature a few months ago on a women referee, I think from Mississippi, in one of the mid-major conferences.

Is she the only one?

Mississippi State got the win, beating Wake Forest in the Music City Bowl. Wasn’t pretty, but a win is a win. State’s D racked up half a dozen sacks, and Ballard had a couple of nifty runs…but State turned the ball over at least 4 times, including an interception in the endzone at the end of the first half when they really should have just kicked the field goal, and a double-tipped pass inside the 5 in the 2nd half.

Tough day for the Big Ten so far.

Go SEC!

Almost always is, right? I think there are 3 Big 10 - SEC* matchups every year on New Year’s Day, and the SEC usually takes 2 out of 3 at least.

*and why the hell is that, anyway?

Well even the lowly Pac-12 beats the B1G. (except UCLA)

Ducks 45
Badgers 38

B1G — 1-4 today.

I haven’t missed on any pick with more points than 21. Of course, picks 22-28 have yet to be played.
