Obama or Hilary-- who has the better chance?

Chris Matthews did a nice little piece on him last night. Did I hear that he was anti-death penalty? If he is, I think that’ll kill his chances right there. Rememebr all those threads we had a few months ago: Could a(n) “X” be president? Well, could an anti-death penalty pol be president? I don’t think so. Even Kerry had to triangulate and agree to capital punishment for “terrorism”.

I’m a New Yorker who thinks Clinton has been doing a pretty darn good job as Senator. I voted for her, though with some initial misgivings, and I plan to vote for her again in November. She has, however, been doing a good job because she has generally kept quiet and focused on local issues. My fears that she would get elected and just not shut up were not realized. But, that would all be blown out were she to run for President.

I saw Obama on Press the Meat this weekend, and my overwhelming thought was: “Holy shit, he sounds intelligent – not like a politician.” He was actually giving thoughtful and responsive answers to questions, not simply spinning, bobbing or ducking.

Clinton, on the other hand, sounds like a politician, and it seems to me like whatever she says or does has been carefully crafted with the appropriate political conditions in mind.

I don’t know if it is just my perception, or that he is untested politically, but Obama seems to have integrity. In contrast, whether it is an accurate view or the result of years of accumulated mud, Clinton does not seem to have the same integrity, but rather seems a political schemer.

I think Obama has that something that will allow people to respond to him personally, and to make him electable.

Actually, what you’re describing would make Hillary more electable. Politicians act like politicians for a reason.

Obama has admitted to drug use in his book.

I inhaled. That was the point.

*Does this change his chances against Clinton in the 2010 Presidential race?

*I’m repeating this here because it seems people are having a hard time seeing these two run against each other for President, even in an imaginary world.

Biggirl’s link fixed.

And in response, no, I don’t think it’ll matter at all. No, I take that back – it will matter, in that his forthrightness will be so damn refreshing that it will actually benefit him, as opposed to hurt him.

From your linked article:

::Oh, SNAP!:: Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about. I LOVE this man!

Thanks. I don’t know where that extra junk came from.

Maybe she was. Maybe Ken Starr was part of it. Maybe his boss was part of it. Maybe his boss’s boss was part of it. But I was a registered Dem at the time and wanted real bad to get rid of Bubba and there was very little right wing about me and I wasn’t invited to join no conspiracies.

So as I said, if she runs I donate lots to the Reps, and I know I’m not the only one who feels this way.

She was.

I can settle this once and for all. I am a moderate who usually votes Republican in presidential elections (and have done so in every one since 1988). The kind of voter that the Democrats need in order to win in '08.

Against any conservative candidate I can think of, I would vote for Obama. The only exception I can immediately think of would be if he ran against McCain, which would be more of a toss-up for me.

I can’t think of a Republican candidate odious enough for me to vote for Clinton. If one emerges, I would rather stay home than vote.

PS It has nothing to do with being black or a woman. I would have voted for Powell if he had ever run, and I did in fact vote for Elizabeth Dole in the primaries in 2000.

Someone wrote a book, so that settles it!

You know, I have no doubt that there was a deliberate attempt to “get” Clintion, but they idea that it was some “vast right wing conspiracy” is laughable.

Spoken like someone who didn’t read the book.

I don’t follow this. Are you holding Bill’s behavior against Hillary? Or are you saying she did wrong by defending him at the time? Makes no sense either way.

Certainly you know which word you happen to be focused on. Is it “vast” or “conspiracy”? Is it the difference between “vast” and “however many were in on the ‘attempt’” “laughable”, or is it the difference between “attempt” and “conspiracy”?

Just trying to be specific and careful about the use of words, ya know.

Now go do some research on the name “Richard Mellon Scaife” and get back to us.

First of all, she was not only trying to say that people were out to get Bill, but she was also implying that the whole idea of an affair w/ Monica was just made up by Republicans.

Secondly, people can work toward a common goal without being in conspiracy. Is there a vast left wing conspiracy to raise the minimum wage? Is there a vast right wing conspiracy to lower taxes? Of course Republicans were trying to “get” Clinton. And the Dems will try to “get” Bush if they come to power. It’s called politics. The secret weapon is you don’t go around having affairs with interns. It ain’t brain surgery.

Hilary is the right choice- who would you rather have as the spouse of the President- Bill or Mrs. Obama?

Like I said, spoken like someone who didn’t read the book.

In all seriousness, I believe the reincarnated corpse of Adolph Hitler would have a better chance getting elected President of the United States than either Clinton or Obama.

 You know something we don’t about Mrs. Obama?

And this is why, for this thought experiment, we are in an alternate universe.

I have read interviews with Mrs. Obama, and find her remarkably level headed. She refuses to indulge in the stupid “Oh, it is such a struggle with my husband off being a statesman, but we bravely muddle though” nonsense I have heard from more than one political wife.

Now I like Bill Clinton, and think he would do well at being the first spouse, but I think Michelle Obama will do just fine, and I would rather have her husband as president than Hilary.
