Obama vs. Trump - Any overlapping opinions?

Seriously? You’re impressed with his branding success? He’s the butt of virtually every joke. The entire Trump family is a punchline. His legacy will be infamy.

Enron is a brand, too. Along with Union Carbide and Comcast.

I would still like an answer to this question if you could.

Did you read the article? The man is worth 3.1 billion. I think your are grossly exaggerating.

Exactly. I don’t know Mr. Enron, Mr. Union Carbide or Mr. Comcast. I do know Mr. Trump.

I don’t think you know what a brand is. It isn’t a human.

If history holds, Trump has probably lied about his assets to make that list again.

But you know the companies. If they were privately held companies named after the owner, you’d know Mr. Enron, Mr. Union Carbide and Mr. Comcast.

You’re making no sense.

Exactly. His name is a brand and will be so when he dies.
The brand is the name that gives value to the company. Trump built a billion dollar empire and named it after himself.

Do you believe Trump®™ continues to carry the cache it did in the past? Would you stay in a Trump property?

History shows that Trump created the brand in his own name and called it a (multi) billion dollar empire. No-one is quite sure about the valuation or his net worth. Know why?

So, General Electric is a brand that used to hold a lot of value, but that value is slipping away as the company is going in the crapper.

What the fuck does it matter if there’s a Mrs. General Electric or not?

ETA: I must also add that if Trump had simply invested in the stock market instead of his own lousy company, he’d probably be a real billionaire. Thanks to Mr. Dow Jones and Mr. S&P, of course.

What I am saying is that some of you are saying that he is a poor businessman.
You don’t like him and neither do I but I’m willing to give credit where credit is due. He might not know a lot about science, history etc. He might have terrible spelling. He might be a terrible father and a terrible person in general. But he must have some business smarts.
My girlfriend has a Trump brand bed. Enough said.
Very few people have their own personal brand. I can’t think of one other. Can you?
He started in his early 20’s and is now in his 70’s. He went bankrupt once. He’s worth billions. He built an empire based on his name. That guy may have lost of crap load of money lately but he is still filthy rich.
When people take pictures of him shopping at Walmart, I’'ll concede that you are right.

Paris Hilton has made a much higher return on her inheritance than he has - and without multiple bankruptcies.

I would probably not stay at a Trump property because I can’t stand the guy. But he has properties. A lot of them.

I really do hope his assets tank and he ends up poor but I doubt it. He will stay rich and his sons will be rich and so on. Property has value and he seem to own a lot of it.
I know nothing about valuations of assets. Perhaps they go up and down so much that it is impossible to pinpoint a value. A link in a previous post lists his net worth at close to 3 billion dollars. Apparently that is down 600 million dollars. That’s like me have a real bad weekend in Vegas.
Are you suggesting that he is worthless?

So it turns out we don’t actually know how high Trump’s value is.

“Hilton”? “Armani”? “Ferrari”? “Lamborghini”? “Bayer”? “Gucci”?

“Martha Stewart”? Speaking of jailbirds, that is.

Probably fewer than you think, because sometimes the people who own the building just put Trump’s name on it in hopes it will drive in suckers. I mean, customers.

Point made.

Quisling? Oswald? McVeigh & Nichols? Kaczynski?

I think it would likely lead to additional employment opportunities, which would be beneficial to at least some poor people who are currently unemployed.
