And here I thought he was a Trekker! Newsweek in late 2008 reported that he’d complimented Michelle for a sparkly belt buckle and joked that it must be made of dilithium crystals.
National Public Rdio did a piece on this Friday, even going so far as to explain the difference between a Jedi Mind Trick and a Vulcan Mind Meld, using audio clips from Star Wars and Star Trek.
It’s a great “soft news” story, but what it reeally tells me is that, since just about everyone seems to know about this and understand the error, there’s really a little bit of nerd in everyone. They ain’t foolin’ anyone – they watched Star Wars and Star Trek.
Now see, what I’d like to know is why anyone still uses the term “mind trick”. That’s not what it’s supposed to be called; it’s just some street term Jabba made up. ("You weak-minded fool! He’s using an old Jedi mind-trick on you!) The correct term is “Force Persuasion”. Any of the books that deal with Jedi mind powers calls it thus, and I’m pretty sure it’s in at least one of the games as well.
…
Just thought it needed to be said. Nothing serious.
