If my OBGYN tells me ONE MORE time to take Advil instead of offtering to find out what is wrong with me I am going to scream.
Sorry had to get that out.

See a different OB - Seriously.
Thanks In Conceivable. I know I have to see another doc. It is just very frustrating. Sorry to whine. Thanks for listening.
You’re making me want more detail, you tease.
Hope you’re feeling better.
Sorry Venoma, it’s not really that exciting. I just have pain in my left ovary and some other “female problems” that are quite annoying. We moved to New Orleans recently and I had to find a new doctor and he seems to think I am a hysteric–(which I am, who are we kidding?) but it still hurts… But instead of doing a pelvic ultrasound or anything, or even feeling the area with his hands he tells me to take advil and “manage the pain.” I go see a new doc tomorrow hopefully it will be more successful.
See if you can find a female obgyn, maybe.
Perhaps she would be more sympathetic.
The minute a doctor does not do a thorough examination ( physical as well as verbal) and then throws out the *it’s all in your head * immediately get another doctor and * tell that doctor you do not appreciate his/her drive-thru approach.
And keep looking if they keep saying that.
Took four doctors and about 4 months for a friend of mine to find out that the intense abdominal pain she was having was not 1) stress, 2) gall bladder disease (“we’ll just take it out - ALL unexplained abdominal pain in women is gall-bladder-related” ), 3) endometriosis. She finally did see a psychologist because every one of them said (after not finding what they said it must be) that it was in her head… and the psychologist said she needed better doctors. That was AFTER going through exploratory surgery…
Turned out to be massively torn abdominal muscles. Once she found a good diagnostician, it took all of 15 minutes to diagnose it.
good luck finding a good one! I suggest you try one of my dad’s favorite methods of locating a good specialist. Contact the hospital path labs, and see if you can find out who orders the fewest tests to get an accurate diagnosis. The pathologists often have a good feel for what docs get closest to an accurate diagnosis without having to run loads of testing that is NOT close to the diagnosis. In your case, the radiology dept might also be a help (ultrasound).
Have you gone to your internist? Maybe he/she would have a broader, less stupid perspective.
You know I keep wanting to kill this thread because it sounds like I’m whining… But I just have to say thanks to all of you for your advice.
Eva Luna I haven’t been to see a general practitioner since I am fairly sure the pain is the result of the cryotherapy I had five months ago. My body still has not recovered.
I did start a thread on a similar topic in IMHO under the title: Not for women only.
I was hoping to understand the phenomenon of “drive by” doctors and the effect it has on women.
