Obi Wan Kenobi series to start filming in March, {Now showing as of June 2022}

I wish we still had signatures.

Why couldn’t Darth put out the flames with the force like he did the first time they were lit?
30 seconds prior!
Or does Mrs Vorenus have some ability to conjure magic flames which are force resistant?

I had not seen that clip ( and it was marvelous! ) when I came to this thread. But I already knew that I wanted to use the word ‘Strut’ and that I wanted to express how I hated ‘The Strut’ and every actor who used it ( as well as every writer who wrote it into a script). ‘The Strut’ is the bane of this series and at least 2 of the new ST series. The Catwalk Strut needs to die a horrible death, hopefully while covered with trash compacter ‘goo’.

Just for you, awkwardness of the unaccompanied strut:

It would have been completely inconsistent with the arc they are setting up. It’s not just that his skills have atrophied. He’s been presented to us as a broken man with this being his Path back up. He’s only taken a first step and just beginning to meet the first few who rekindle his hope. Vader OTOH is stronger now than he had ever been as Anakin. That power was the temptation.

Agreed that Vader could easily have put out the fire or even Force grabbed the two of them on the other side of the fire. Either poorly written or Vader has his reasons to let him go for now.

Anyway. There might be potential for a good story with these characters (and new interesting others) in this time period. I’m still waiting to see if they tell one. So far not. Ah well. Two duds of series in a row? Not looking good for the franchise.

Considering canon.
Leia has met Obi Wan, something none of the 11 movies have indicated, but admittedly it isn’t ruled out and arguably it makes sense she does know him since Rogue One and A New Hope both suggest that she had originally intended to bring the plans back to Alderraan, but Vader caught up before she could. This would mean her decision to go to Tataoonie was spur of the moment rather than planned which would require she at least know Kenobi well, or well enough to be confident he would know what to do.

The number of timed Padme has been alluded ,makes me winder if the series will end with Leia knowing about Padme, which once again canon doesn’t rule out.

In both movies, it’s clear that Leia’s original mission was to pick up Obi Wan on Tatooine and bring him to Alderaan. Having the Death Star plans along was very much a spur of the moment thing. From the holo message in ANH:

General Kenobi. Years ago you served my father in the Clone Wars. Now he begs you to help him in his struggle against the Empire. I regret that I am unable to present my father’s request to you in person, but my ship has fallen under attack, and I’m afraid my mission to bring you to Alderaan has failed.

And in Rogue One, the conversation between Bail Organa and Mon Mothma:

I must return to Alderaan to inform my people that there will be no peace.

We will need every advantage. Your friend, the Jedi.

He served me well during the Clone Wars and has lived in hiding since the Emperor’s purge. Yes, I will send for him.

You’ll need someone you can trust.

I would trust her with my life.

But instead of just leaving, the Tantive IV went along to Scarif when the Rebel Fleet decided to support Jyn’s team. Then they literally give Leia the plans because the flagship has been disabled and is being boarded by the most terrifying person in the galaxy. If Vader’s ship had shown up 10 minutes later, the Rebel Alliance flagship would already have jumped out of the system and back to Yavin with the plans, and Leia would have headed to Tatooine without the plans (or at least without the only copy of the plans) as expected.

I did not recognize Indira Varma in her Imperial duds – put once I got a look at her hair I was like “It’s
Ellaria Sand”. I liked Freck’s design (just because he looks like a mole man doesn’t mean he is nocturnal.) We get to see a ROCKY desert planet (ok, there is some rocky parts of Tatooine, but there was more vegetation on Mapuzo)

Guess I’m OK with this series so far.

I did expect Obi-wan to “these are not the droids you are looking for” the stormtroopers

ALL Jedi are stupid. Even “wise” Master Yoda. I believe it is secretly part of their ethos. ‘To the Force, balance you must bring. To bring balance, stupid you must be.’

I like the Star Wars universe, but I’ve become more comfortable with its contradictions now that I’ve decided it is a bit of a tragedy where, Game of Thrones-style, the protagonists are frequently idiots.

I was going to ask about any prior EU reference to Obi-Wan’s brother but some searching reveals that originally it was Owen Lars (screen play for ROTJ) but his dream of a brother has now been retconned:

Brian

I was thinking similar in the moment but heard some morning radio folks discussing it the next day and they had the opinion that it was pretty obvious Vader could have done whatever he wanted in his position but made his point that he was going to continually hunt down Obi-Wan and torture him over and over and hurt a lot of people in the process. So he let him go to antagonize him further.

Trivia , for first movie James Earl Jones was only paid $8k for doing Vader’s voice. He obviously got a lot more after that . And he’s 91 now.

Luke said, “If there is a bright center to the Galaxy, Tattooine is the farthest from it.”

Mandalorian, Book of Boba Fett and now Obi-wan puts lie to that.

Instead of an Obi-wan series, I would rather have a really dark Darth Vader series detailing the Jedi
Hunt. There can be only one.

And for an entire planet for things to happen on it sure is a crazy coincidence that almost all of it occurs in the greater Mos Eisley area.

I was unaware that midichlorians geneticlly program force-sensitives to chafe or generally not give a shit about the death of their adoptive muggle families. But this would explain why Luke pines over Ben’s death more than his ‘parents’…and Ieia? We see more grief in Robot Chicken then the SW saga.

You guys sure do take these things very seriously. These are morality tales, just stories to entertain. Don’t get caught up in the details, just roll with the plot and enjoy the character moments.

That Tatooine description was Luke’s point of view. He was living a deliberately sheltered life, and was frustrated that he’d never got to do anything or go anywhere. It’s true that Tatooine is the Outer Rim on the fringes of where the Empire has its biggest influence, but it’s also where a lot of the dangerous dregs of the galaxy regularly hang out. Shit’s gonna go down in a place like that.

Complaints like this remind me of when everyone argued Lost never provided any answers, even though every episode had answers; They just also added two additional questions each time. And that’s what made the show so compelling. You are getting so bogged down in the details that you’re forgetting to enjoy the bigger picture.

*At the centre of the galaxy is the city-planet Coruscant, which means “glittering”.

Exactly. It’s like debating whether or not Adam and Eve had belly buttons, or if there was no actual literal talking snake, then there’s no original sin either. Same kind of idea.

More trivia: they had David Prowse (Darth Vader) say his lines but George Lucas didn’t tell him that somebody would be dubbing the voice. Prowse was not a big fan of Lucas.

Probably for the best:

The scene 15 minutes later when they arrive at Mos Eisley put a lie to it.
