It’s very obviously a big hub.
Like a port somewhere on Earth which is away from the centres of political and economic power but a major hub for its region. Like Maputo. Or Colombo.
Tatooine is a part of a major trade route, home to a powerful Hut, and a place with basically no laws. Lots of stuff goes on their. But Luke was basically like a farm hand in the outback that has no idea what Sydney is like.
Another thing to remember when it comes to the Star Wars universe is that everything is binded together by the will of the force. I believe that for whatever reason Tatooine is an important planet in that regard.
with Joshua Trees!!! So we know the second unit drove out a few hours to the Mojave Desert to get footage for the SoundStage process. (I believe they have claimed almost nothing with the actors is shot on location - it’s all using the spiffy new Soundstage which is like green screen on steroids)
I’m still guessing Qui-Gon will show up as a ghost in the final episode and we will hear him say(this time talking about Luke), “Like I said before, my young padawan. You must train the boy.”
Final shot of the season is Qui-Gon disappearing and Obi-Wan looking over again at young Luke.
I loved Part IV. Tala playing up her status as a double-agent. Leia steadfastly refusing to tell the Third Sister anything, even under threat of torture and possibly death. Obi-Wan turning out the lights and doing an Ahsoka-in-the-fog-like battle with the two Stormtroopers. Obi-Wan using the Force to keep the window from fracturing for as long as possible. A woman mourning her fallen compatriot whom we hadn’t gotten to know, showing how everyone is important and no lives are expendable in this conflict.
And they didn’t work great in that environment, either - Han had to take a tauntaun out to look for Luke because they were “still adapting the speeders to the cold.”
They were designed to be used in the ‘warm snow’ of Nandooine where the temperature never drops below 35 °C. To adapt the snowspeeders their compressor lobes had to be fitted with fur insulation from leapordbears trapped on Umpa Prime by a consortium led by one of the lesser known Hutts.
I’m not arguing about/caring about in-EU references. I’m thinking about real physical products that ended up in people’s hands. They were always snowspeeders to most kids, and will always be snowspeeders to me. (Just as Generic Bounty Hunter Ship will always be Slave-1.)
