Obsessed - Beyonce movie

I just had the opportunity to see this piece of crapola, and am wondering if any other dopers suffered through this drek.

I knew it was going to be a “Fatal Attraction” rip-off, but I didn’t care much. Idris Elba is a solid actor who put some great performances together in HBO’s “The Wire”. And Beyonce is, well, Beyonce. Not known for her acting, but I figured for eye candy, how bad could she be? The third lead, the stalker, Ali Larter, is a babe (a truly disturbed one in the movie for sure), but for more eye candy, this woman was a winner. The supporting cast is also excellent, so the movie promised much in the way of entertainment.

So what did I get? A movie so bad, a script so bad, that I could barely stay through it. I hate shutting a movie off or walking out on a movie. When I make a commitment of time, I like to use it. But this thing was horrid.

For one, Beyonce was one of the most possessive, deranged, untrusting wives I can ever remember portrayed in the movies. Halfway through the movie, I wondered which woman was crazier, Beyonce (whose booty may be fine in the right dress, but not crammed into blue jeans, I’m sorry), or the “skinny ass” white chick.

Her over-reaction to her husband Derek’s (Elba) explanation as to what was going on after Lisa (Larter) was found naked in Derek’s bed in a hotel room OD’d on pills (she lived), was completely uncalled for and off the beam. True, it sounds bad, but it really wasn’t at all, and the audience watching knows it. Beyonce turns into her own version of psycho-bitch, and when she does, a ‘ghetto’ woman appears, complete with language, facial contortions, and head and neck bobs to make any crack ho proud. It really took me out of the movie, and I could never find my way back in.

Anyone else see this? What are your thoughts and memories?

I didn’t believe Beyonce and the male lead as a couple. There was zero chemistry with what was supposed to be hot and heavy in love couple. That alone basically ruined the rest of the movie for me.

My seething, sourceless, irrational contempt for Ali Larter and Beyonce prevented me from watching this movie, but I have a question. In the trailer there’s a bit where there Beyonce character, talking on the phone, suddenly says, “I’m gonna have to call you back,” rips off her earrings, and stalks forward, clearly intending to deliver the ass-whupping someone–presumably the Larter character–just ordered. Did she win?

I didn’t see this movie, but I do want to say that the ghetto style mannerisms you are describing have nothing to do with being a crack ho, IMO. Crack hoes have very different mannerisms, like a fast walk, scratching, smoking crack, staring with huge wide eyed intensity, etc. In other words, ghetto girl doesn’t equal crack ho.

Beyonce Knowles is a beautiful woman and a fine singer, but she can’t act her way out of a paper bag. She’s not going to have on screen chemistry with anyone, ever. You have to act that, and that is one skill she does not possess.

I think the movie’s dialog lost me with Beyonce’s blistering “I’m going to kick your skinny ass, bitch!”, which I believe is the real reason Beyonce hated the other woman. Her skinny ass.

I agree with this completely. There was no chemistry between Beyonce and Idris. In the currently running show “The Big C”. he has more chemistry with Laura Linney and it oozes from the screen. Beyonce is beautiful, but she was as sexually appealing as a wet rag in the movie.

Of course. But the fight scene was intellectually dishonest and another scene in the movie that made me want to pull my hair out. A pathetic cat fight, with the obligatory comebacks by both sides like a pro wrestling match, and falls down wooden staircases that don’t cause any major injuries.

He is a rising star, An “A” list Actor. Eloquent, gifted, talented and regal. Idris has 3 fb sites with over 2,000,000 woman waiting for him to speak daily. American Gangsters, taken, gospel. He is british and distinguish and the most devalued actor I’ve seen. We are waiting for the next DENZEL WASHINGTON an uncompromisingly dominant actor. Obessed was good it could have been better if they went and little deeper into the life of his stalker. We are starved for a astonishing talented and sexy actor of his caliber. Where are all the romantic leads? Where is our Brad Pitt? Majority of his fans are woman but he does gangster movies, scary movies. He doing an alien movie next. Does anyone see us longing for a romantic lead.

I think Idris Elba is a terrible actor who’s a jerk and who women find silly-looking.

I saw it ages ago and it was crap, agreed. Beyonce was really bad, especially in the end with the 'hood chick beat down.
