…mainly just to make sure nothing important got tagged as spam, but also because the names or subject lines of what are indeed spam are actually slightly amusing.
Today I got a message from someone, or something, named “Thought-provoking Fart.”
This was good for a laugh, for which I was so grateful I almost considered clicking the gibberishy-looking url in the body of the message.
But if any lurkers are reading this and haven’t yet signed up for a SDMB account just because they couldn’t think of a good username…
I just got this message in my inbox (not in the spam folder, it slipped through somehow):

Bridge mortgages, eh? You know, I’ve had my eye on the Golden Gate Bridge for quite awhile now. Maybe now’s the opportunity to finally pull the trigger on taking a loan out for it.
Tangentially related story; last year, I re-subscribed to Comcast, and signed up for phone service even though I don’t need it and use my cell phone for everything, because for some reason it’s cheaper than just buying cable and internet a la carte. I never bothered hooking up a phone to my modem. I also don’t use my Comcast email address for anything.
Just the other day, I happened to sign into my account online and noticed I had 26 unheard voicemails. I decided to listen to them all. Almost all of them were intended for whoever had this phone number before I did, who was apparently Realtor or real estate agent of some kind.
One of those messages happened to be from none other than Joe Arpaio (yes, that Joe Arpaio as far as I can tell), to whom the previous owner of this phone number had sold a mobile home at some point in the past, who was now inquiring about some information about the bill of sale.
On the other side of this, I was looking to hire an engineer. I made my selection and HR sent an e-mail notifying him that he was selected (govt, lots of hires, they don’t have the resources to phone everyone). The e-mail went into his spam folder. He didn’t check it for several weeks. He got another e-mail, again it went into his spam box, saying he was de-selected because he didn’t respond in time. By the time he found the e-mail, they had already notified my second selection. He called and asked if I could do anything for him and I told him no, the other guy accepted.
