FedEx delivery driver.
Union organizer.
Previously a newspaper editor.
Previously a hospital dietary assistant.
How is that as a job, by the way? I’m considering a career change, wonder if that’s a decent occupation or not?
That’s an exaggeration. However I do remember silent pictures. I was pretty young because the only thing I remember is always asking my sister what the writing said. She finally refused to go with me and I had to count on my parents from then on.
And back in my day we used cellulose nitrate film, not this sissy safety stuff used now, harumph.
Another blue colar here! I am the owner of a tire shop. I also used to work as a computer technician.
Feel free to ask me anything about wheels and tires!
Estimator and Pricing Analyst for a financial printing company. We print Annual Reports, Prospectuses, Tender offers, the junk mail you get if you own stock.
I figure the price and send out the bills. If we lose money on a job we printed, I have to look into why. If we make money, well, Yay!
I love my career. I have moved beyond just delivering, I own several routes and employ other drivers. If you’re smart enough to hang out at the SDMB, you’re smart enough to make a good living at FedEx.
“Own”? Like a franchise? Or more like an independent contractor?
Contractor. Most contracts are ZIP Code specific, although some can include multiple ZIPs (larger rural routes, for instance). But my ZIP codes are mine to service.
At present I’m the owner of a general contracting firm serving realtors, absentee landlords, and bank foreclosure departments, and a small group of residential/commercial clients. Services offered include: electrical, plumbing, HVAC, general (doors, windows, siding, drywall, framing, concrete, roofing), appliance repairs, locksmithing, and burglary/fire alarm/CCTV/access control system install & monitoring.
Volunteer firefighter/hazmat tech. CDL ‘A’ with tanker & hazmat. Former EMT/paramedic.
Used to install/service banking equipment (safes, vault doors, motor bank eqpt., ATMs), former mechanic, auto body tech, electronic equipment tech, CDL driver, professional photographer, and occasional lazy bum.
I do QA/QC too, but for a dairy manufacturer. I get very dirty at work. You would not believe how difficult it is to get dried cream out of your eyebrows.
Can we know which regional brewery? I may enjoy your product!
Ancient historian in utero.
Clerk in Occupational Health and Safety in a hospital (there are two of us that I know of on the SDMB)
Let’s see:
Currently I’m a medical billing specialist, but that includes coding, billing, predeterminations, appeals, insurance specialist (particularly Medicaid)…anything to get the bills paid by those dasterdly insurance companies.

Also, analytical chemistry teacher for the institute from which I received my degree, and author/editor of their self-published learning guides.

Speaking of careers…I’m a career practitioner or counsellor at a university! Used to be counsellor and have psychology training.
Translator. (French to English, mainly medical administration, though I have translated in political science, railways, and a number of other fields.)
From my profile:
- Copywriter (mostly print advertising and materials for various Japanese company for overseas use)
- Minister (freelance monetarian. I perform about 3-4 wedding ceremonies a week)
- Teacher (English conversation, aka ESL without qualifications. I haven’t done this in a while, but it’s always available if I leave job #1)
- Actor (occasional TV and ad extra. Haven’t done anything in a while)
Pharmacy Technician. But I’m looking to get into something that pays more.
-foxy
My business card says I’m a Senior Service Specialist, but it used to say Construction Manager and Project Manager before that. But my job at that one company has always been the same - Engineering, installing and programming digital controls for (mostly) commercial HVAC systems.
Before this job I have been (in reverse chronological order) a facilities manager, an HVAC/appliance repair tech, a hospital facilities tech, a Navy Machinist’s Mate (E-5), a frycook and a dairy farmer (Ok, I was just a kid, but I milked the cows, plowed the fields, shoveled manure, put out the hay, moved the irrigation pipe, drove the combine, baled the hay, and fed the baby calves. But only until I was 13 and we sold the farm!)
Oh yeah, I have a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, too.
