Lol, no that’s my husband, the eternal X-Men fan. Last night my son insisted my husband line up all of his Wolverines (he has six different versions) in order from nicest to meanest.
Me: “Did you do it?”
Husband: “You’re goddamn right I did.”
This is the first and last time I will ever link to something sports related, but I was referring to my alma mater.
My wife and I are planning to go to one in our small city (suburb of San Francisco). I’m sure the ones in the big cities will be massive, but I’m curious how big ours will be.
I went to Hands Off in Carson City in April and No Kings in Reno in June. Both were fantastic. I’m disappointed that I can’t make it this Saturday (on the road all day) but I’m with you in spirit. Maybe I’ll find a protest I can drive by and honk at.
Judging from the number of Presidents-for-life around the world who are kings in all but name, and seem happy to pass the job on to their progeny, Kinging still seems popular among the rulers, if not the ruled.
I’m bummed I won’t be able to go. We go camping every fall with my wife’s extended family, and this weekend is the weekend we’re going. I will be wearing a maize (Michigan) t-shirt all day Saturday, so I’ll at least look the part.
We went to the first No Kings rally in Bellingham. Thousands of people showed up. Unfortunately, a large group of Gaza protesters put themselves front-and-center. I fell for the Gazans, but I’m more concerned about keeping America a democracy. They can get their own rally.
Saturday, we’ll be going out to Everson. It will be a much smaller turn-out, as its a smaller, rural place. We figured that Bellingham won’t need us there, and Everson does. Out to Trump country! Also, we think there will not be as much of a chance for a Gaza hijack.
I plan to go. I’m going to look for some small flags and bring some extra to handout. I’m not feeling too terribly fearful, but trump did just say he’s sending his goons to San Francisco next. It’s getting closer and closer to my town of Sacramento and my fears for some loved ones is starting to really keep me awake at night.
Edit to add, I am feeling rather proud of my avatar these days.
I’ll be on the Common as well. I’m going to make a meeting-place designation with my teen in case of separation, something close but not immediately adjacent to the Common/Public Gardens. I might do Macys at DTX or Quincy Market. Easy to find, lots of people around on a normal day, but far enough away from immediate nonsense.
I’m going to be carrying my signs in a bag so if we needed to be in more subtle-mode we can blend in with tourists. I’ll have my tiny flag in it and also some bubbles, because not much says “we’re non-threatening” than bubbles.
The one in San Francisco looks like it’s being held at Ocean Beach; I remember last time they spelled out “No King!” with people on the beach. That’s a pretty long trip from where I live, if I go by public transportation, and I imagine parking will be nil. So I’ll probably opt for the one in Daly City, much closer and more likely to have parking around. Alas, I don’t think I have a single thing to wear in yellow. Maybe my husband has a scarf or something.
We went to Hands Off in April and No Kings in June, at the Nassau County NY Executive Building. There were thousands attending, and we plan to attend this Saturday; we’re 10 minutes away. I still have a 11"x14" cardboard sign from No Kings, as well as a 16" x 24" poster we got at a May Day protest in downtown NYC; the protester carrying it had to leave and gave it to my husband who was just carrying a small sign. We also have small flags and a medium flag, 20"x10".
My husband has a yellow T, and maybe my daughter has one somewhere?
Yeah, not trying to diss any country’s preferences for monarchy if that’s how they rock, but here in the US, we’re agin it. God save your gracious King, sure, but we don’t want one.
You are correct that many leaders of so-called republican democracies are basically running de facto monarchies, and the US definitely isn’t exempt from that tendency among our leaders. But: We’re agin it, and that’s why we’ll be out protesting.
Headed to the nearest one, probably, which is Starkville, MS for me. Prior experience suggests there will likely be some annoying MAGA types driving by, but they don’t really do anything. I missed the June one, so I’m stoked for this one.
How are y’all getting in (if you aren’t already ‘in’)? I went to the Pride/No Kings parade and it was pretty chaotic getting in via commuter rail. But that’s probably still better than driving in.
I’ll be at one in Penn Yan NY which Indivisible doesn’t have on their site.
I’m not expecting any trouble; there wasn’t any at the one in June, unless you count an occasional middle finger out of car windows. There were a lot more people driving by making noise in favor, though. And it’s a pretty red area.
I don’t think I have anything yellow, except a sleeveless tee with holes in it that it’ll be too cold for anyway. I do have something multicolored that it might be the right temperature for; it’s not any of the standard rainbow patterns, but it’s probably the best I’ve got.
I’ve got a flag. The one I got to wave at protests in the’70’s wore out during Trump’s first term, so I had to get another one. I’ll have to decide whether to make a new sign or bring the one I used last time, which says “No Kings. George Washington knew that.” I’ll see whether new inspiration strikes.
I read a Facebook post, where someone said he wanted to buy an inflatable frog costume but they were on backorder. He took it as a good sign.
But if you refuse to let them go, I will plague your whole country with frogs… The frogs shall come up on you and on your people and on all your officials…’
