Odd Animal News

That was just the start. It seems the lizards are trying to take back their domination of the world. Komodo dragon attacks are on the rise.

We have a pair of pandas on loan from China up in the North, in the Chiang Mai Zoo. They’ve been trying to get them to mate for years, even to the extent of showing them panda porn on video. That didn’t seem to work, but something did, as the female, Lin Hui, gave birth to a girl panda on Wednesday morning. Stories here and here.

And they’re holding a contest to name the panda cub. Story here. You can see a photo of her there, too. Not sure when it was taken; she’s a week old today (Wednesday), so just a few days anyway. I’m not sure if the contest is open to people outside of Thailand, but it looks like the prizes are “at least” 1 million baht (US$29,000) and MAYBE a car (sounds like they’ve not really thought this out completely), plus a trip to China to see pandas there.

“Wildlife crossings in Montana help deer & bear cross safely”. This article has some cute photos - wildlife camera snapped a bear, some deer, bobcat, otter - and one surprising creature using the crossings.

Our baby panda just turned 15 days. And a cute little bugger she is, too.

Rain of frogs (tadpoles if you want to be pedantic) in Japan.

And another lobster is saved from the pot, this time because of its skin color, the racist bastards. Story here.

The young lady I was seeing at the time rescued a blue crayfish from the pot when we caught a bunch of brown ones in Rock Creek.

Stoned wallabies are making crop circles

**"Australian wallabies are eating opium poppies and creating crop circles as they hop around ‘as high as a kite’, a government official has said.

“Lara Giddings, the attorney general for the island state of Tasmania, said the kangaroo-like marsupials were getting into poppy fields grown for medicine.”**

I’d like it better if they were stoned Koala Bears falling out of trees. They catch the little suckers by knocking them out of trees with a twenty foot pole, and they land on their fat little asses and just bounce.
But from the link:

“I have seen a stoned wallaby but I don’t know about them making crop circles. The one I saw was slurring his words and asking me for a dollar as he was trying to get the boat to see his brother in New Zealand”

This could have gone into the elephant thread, but it is truly odd, so I’m putting it here.

The panda cub in the Chiang Mai Zoo has been garnering SO much attention that to get the tourists back, mahouts have taken to painting their elephants to resemble pandas. Story here.

That is too funny! I do like the look though.

This has already been covered 3 times.

D’oh!

LMAO!
