Soy: It’s not just for fueling buses anymore! I got some of these soy crisps, and man are they tasty! The bag tells me I need 25g of soy protein every day; I figure I should try to top that by going to a diet entirely made up of soy. OK, maybe not entirely. Anyway, good stuff. Are soy crisps sweeping the nation or is it just in the midwest?
Have you tried soyburgers, soymilk, and soy nuts yet?
Soyburgers are good, but I can’t stand that loose soy meat.
I tried to make lasagna out of it and it was awful.
I love Silk Soymilk! I really love it on cereal.
Carnivore who likes soy checking in.
I recently got a box of egg rolls at Sam’s. I noticed on the box that they contained soy protein as well as pork.
‘Sheesh,’ I thought to myself, ‘if soy protein needs to be used as a filler, this is certainly the place!’.
Also a recent soy convert. Hint: For Soy burgers get Boca’s GRILLERS–not the regular hamburgers which taste like crap. Also, Boca soy italian sausage is good in a bun if you add peppers and onions for some texture–they’re a little mushy otherwise. There’s nothing you can do about the smoked sausage though–they’re just bad.
I guess that defines a real carnivore–I’ll eat vegetables as long as they tase like meat!
Syncronicity! I just got my first box of various soy products in the mail last night. And I was just thinking I may be a soy convert before seeing this topic.
Didn’t like what the scale said at the doctor’s office a couple of weeks ago and decided something needs to be done about it. Or I need new clothes. Almost bought some Nutri-Systems meals but my charge card squawked at paying around $300/month for meals. I was going to try a week’s worth to see if I liked it. May still try it in the future.
Anyway, I searched for other options and found a company called Revival Soy. They had pretty good information on their website, so I ordered some drinks, soy bars and baked pasta crisps.
Pertty good stuff! Had a chocolate drink blended with lowfat milk and a banana for breakfast. It was pretty filling and rivaled the flavor of Nestle’s Quick. Much better than Slim-Fast. Have also eaten a couple of different bars, one last night and the other for dessert at lunch. They’re similar to a rice crispy bar. Then had the pasta chips for a late afternoon snack.
Their directions for weight loss is to replace a meal with a drink or a bar. I could see a drink maybe, like I did for breakfast, but I would still be wanting food if I relied on just a bar. Going to try a drink tomorrow, blended with orange juice, plain yogurt and a banana for lunch. They also recommend eating a lot of fruit and vegetables.
I don’t know how successful I’ll be at weight loss, but they also say that soy helps cholesterol and high blood pressure levels, two things I’m being treated for.
I do know that I was pleasantly surprised how good everything tasted.
I’ve been thinking of trying soy burgers for years now, so thanks for the tip there Turner. Being a former “patty boy” at a local slaughter house (I ran the patty making machine), I made soy/meat burguers for the local schools. The soy there was for filler more than health reasons and was sort of an oatmeal looking product, I want to say its color was either green or purple, before it was mixed with the meat. I remember eating those kind of burgers in school and thought they weren’t too bad.
