Of Surprises and Desserts: A Parisian MMP

Sorry for the family “fun” Nava. Hope you can go back to Scotland soon!

Good doc, rebo! I just got an email quote on glasses from an eye doc, and I’m pleased that they responded to an email so quickly. (I tried to stop by twice, but they were closed both times, and I need the amount today to decide how much to put in flex spend, which I have to turn in today. So I was really happy that they responded right away.)

Hope daughter’s itching gets better, Soapy. And hope she does better on the prednisone than I did… I do NOT like that stuff!

I’ve finally posted various pics. This is one of the plants on my patio. Here it is in the planter with all the other flowers. This is the cat sitting in the raised bed box. She liked it there a lot before the rain came and the boxes got all muddy.

From our weekend trip to the zoo, the moose wasn’t doing anything exciting - he never does - but he is growing antlers now, which is kind of cool. The prairie dog pups were adorable. (OK so that’s only 1 prairie dog pup, but the others were cute too!)

The fighting grizzlies were the highlight of the day, though. That really is an amazing exhibit. They set it up so there really isn’t anywhere for the grizzlies to go that the visitors can’t see. Not like the wolf exhibit where 90% of the time there are no wolves to be seen. And the grizzlies seem to like to ham it up. One of them (not sure which one… I’m not good at telling them apart.) likes to swim up to the glass and paddle back and forth right in front of all the people. Sometimes he even puts his giant paw up on the glass. Really cool.

And this is late-evening clouds from last night. It was really pretty. And the pic was taken with my iPhone. :stuck_out_tongue:

Indeed they are. Which means that yes, the bright side is that I get a break on Fridays… the downside is that on all the other days, I have to drag my butt out of bed at the asscrack of dawn, since the calls start ridiculously early due to the time difference. By the time Wednesday rolls around, I’m usually working up a serious case of the crankypants… and I’d be totally homicidal by Friday.

Speaking of the crankypants, why won’t this stupid flu just go away and leave me alone already? I’m so over this cough.

Glad Petercat is feeling better, Spaz. I’m amazed he actually consented to the poking and prodding and such… I can’t even manage to trim my cats’ claws without a struggle.

Also glad the kiddo is doing better, Soapy. Poison ivy is no fun, even when the reaction is mild.

Yay on the weight loss, Pie and Spaz. That’s great! We won’t talk about how much I’ve gained over the past year (or the past five, for that matter… sigh).

{{Nava}}

ETA: Nice planters, taxi! I love those purple daisies… normally, I try to avoid buying annuals because I’ll have to replace them once the season is done, but I do make exceptions for nasturtiums and african daisies, because they’re entirely too pretty to pass up.

And on that note, I’m gonna go get some work done. They cancelled the call for today (YAY!!!), but I’m sure that’ll just mean double the agony next week when the calls/meetings resume.

I live for annuals. Probably because I’m not allowed to put anything in the ground, and annuals do well in planters. That, and it allows me to start fresh every year with something new and different.

I forgot to add that I, too, am impressed that PeterCat let you perform quasi-surgery on him. Lily does NOT like having her claws clipped, and in the past we’ve had to give her ear drops, which she also will not sit still for. And the pills… well, we don’t talk about that. I cannot imagine trying to hold her down while cutting open a cyst on her.

And worth his weight in gold! Don’t ever change insurance plans!

EWWW!!

No fun! So by now, you’re adept at washing clothes in hotel room sinks?

As for Rick Steves, some friends of ours roamed all around Europe last year armed with only the clothes they could carry in smallish and easily carried backpacks and some Rick Steves books. Loads of good info, and they really liked traveling light - they didn’t have so much as one suitcase to drag along.

Our work email was out all morning (Well, technically from 10:42 pm yesterday until after 1 today). It’s really weird not having email. Or meeting reminders. Not fun.

Especially for the IT folks who were here, presumably from 10:43 pm yesterday until now.

And that’s why I have a special love for you.

Another day down the tubes. Today I got a coupon for a free half gallon of ice cream to replace the one that was filled with the wrong stuff. ( the Butter Pecan turned out to be plain vanilla) plus an assortment of other coupons, some of which I may use.

SIL is here for supper, but I already know what I’m going to make, so that’s easy. **FCD **will be along soon, I guess. He went to the Dr this morning because he was having panic attacks. So she changed some of his meds. Yay! Hope it works.

I’ve got to go to DC on Monday for an all-day meeting. Since we have to check in early to get our credentials and stuff, we need to be there by 8. Which means we need to leave Fredericksburg by 6:30-ish, which means I’m meeting the driver when he picks up the duty van at 5:20. Which means I have to get up, dressed, and on my way by 4:40. The meeting better be worth it, dammit! Oh yeah, and I have to dress professionally. No jeans. bummer.

More rain forecast for tonight. ENOUGH ALREADY!

Yay, Pie! Yay, Spaz!

I know there was more, but I’m so tired, I can barely see straight. So I’ll just hug, smooch, and grope all around as appropriate.

I can haz Firday??

Howdy Y’all! Three down and two to go and I still hate iPhones.

I sorta skimmed over everything, so, yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlins, how you doin’s as needed.

Ok, this I remember…

BBBobbio with all those dead decomposin’ cats, in a few years the cat garden will have some fine soil for growin’ 'maters and such.

It’s Beer O’Clock!!! YAY!

Good news, everybody. Boss Guy spontaneously told me I could “work from home” tomorrow, with a wink-wink-nudge-nudge… because I don’t actually have any work to do tomorrow, given we’re waiting on some documents that won’t be ready until next week. So that means I have a day at home which I can put to good use by unpacking my bags, processing all the photos I took on my trip, and possibly even getting some gardening done if the weather cooperates. Hurray!!!

swampus, I also hate iPhones, but it’s a sour grapes thing. I was all set to buy the new generation iPhone later this month (since we’re releasing on June 19th, just in time for me to treat it as my birthday present to myself)… but The Powers That Be just sent out a bulletin to remind us that company employees are not permitted to order their shiny new toys to allow the general public to get first dibs. Much pouting ensued.

Yay for Spaz! (And apologies for overlooking that earlier. :() Good deal.

GT, you’re right, even the Parisian Metro is photogenic! Thank you so much for the photos of and from the Louvre–I may not ever get a chance to see it in person, but your photos more than make up for that, I think. I am hoping that you finally got your suitcase!

Four down, one more to go until the weekend, whoooo! I am soooo glad tomorrow is FIRDAY!

Muppet yeah, we had emails and BIG SCREAMIN’ MESSAGES flash up on the projector screens from which all updates and miscellaneous corporate bs eminate to tell everybody the same thing about the iPhone 3gS, like I even care. Oh, and out of curiosity, I went by the shiny new local ATT cor store today to ask about iPhone reserves. They’ve had a big whoppin’ ten reserves as of three o’clock this afternoon. HEE! Ok, I thought it was funny.

Oh and in case y’all have not gotten the message yet…

** I HATE iPHONES!!!**

Sorry taxi. :stuck_out_tongue:

Back from Bad Chinese. About to assume the knitting posture. I’m still tahred!!

C’mon Firday!!!

Hey, **swampy **- can you get me a deal on an iPHONE??

Hey swampy, can you get me an…

extra battery for my RAZR? I don’t care two figs about iPones, but my trusty-dusty-rusty RAZR is so old that I think it’s labeled Cingular. Yeah, I’m a complete Luddite when it comes to phones.

Had a giggle at a thrift shop today. We were poking around after bringing in some donations, and sitting on a table… Hey, that china looks familiar! DH happened to remember the specifics of a set of dishes that he used to have, and sure enough, there were four serving bowls and eight cups and nine saucers. (Two partial sets had been combined.)

The funny thing was that he bought the dishes new ten years ago for $100, sold them at a garage sale two years ago for $50, and now they’re at the thrift store for $85. Funny how stuff pops up like that.

Now for the un-fun stuff. Some friends of our are having marital problems and as it stands right now, she may be coming to stay with us for a while on a trial separation, otherwise known as “Dude, get off your ass and try to do some dishes/laundry/cleaning and realize that there’s a world out there other than World of Warcraft and your wife’s getting lonely.” Hopefully they can sort things out. I wonder how many WOW widows are out there?

gotti I think our very own BooFae is a “soddin’ WoW” widow.

All you people who want to fork over tons o’ money and plunk down thirty bucks a month for a data plan, come on down to your local ATT store and preorder yerselves a soon to be released and will probably crash bigger than the Hindenburg on the very first day cause why should this one be different from all the others, iPhone. :stuck_out_tongue:

I hate Apple in general, swampy so I hate iPhones too. CAPTIALIZE THE I, IDJITS! Fskin’ companies adding to the general decline of the English language. HARUMPH.

For those of you who are surprised at Petercat’s patience, he knows he has no choice. He’s fifteen years old and he and I are very well trained to one another. He puts up with home surgery and I give him water in a glass.

I just sent my thesis off to my committee. My computer, showing signs of a rudimentary sense of humor, turned itself off just as I was about to write the email. Fortunately I was able to restore the Firefox session and start anew after threatening to beat my computer to death with a stick.

Tomorrow’s gonna suck–packing day. Petercat and Zeldadog are already giving me Offended Looks.

rosie’s sig to all!

I’m not a WOW widow, but I have lost #1 son to it. What am I–an ex-mother? What is the term for someone who has lost a child? We don’t have one…

Dopers, get on this. This could be big!

Forgot yesterday to send my condolences on to y’all know who. Hope he’s having a safe trip home and back.

So, does this mean I don’t get my free iPhone and data plan, swampy??? Not even if I beg and make puppy-dog eyes?

Sounds like it’s about time for you to get the heck out of there, Nava. When do you get to leave?

Nice that FTT’s program was at Special Teen’s school. Will either of the twins go to that school later on or is it too soon to tell?

Hey mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, nice to see you. I thought of you when I was in Paris and wondered whether we were passing each other on the street. If we’d had more time and a slightly less hectic schedule, I would have tried to meet up. Next time. (Any idea how long you’ll be in France?)

Fortunately, no (I would have been much crankier, had that been the case). I bought an emergency supply of underwear in Germany and borrowed clothes from FABF, since we’re almost the same size.

Sorry about your friends, by the way. Hope they’re able to work things out.

So you’re a grieving WOW-parent, rigs? Hmmmm, not sure that works.

We’ve had that happen a couple of times. Very not fun. It’s amazing how dependent we all are on e-mail and calendars.

Glad you’re enjoying it. I’m having fun making sure I’ve documented most of what I want to remember for the trip.

Off to find dinner and then finish up the rest of the story, I hope.

Swampus, which is worse, iPhones or the billing hell from your old employer?

I got off my dead butt and made balushkis tonight from the recipe Rebo found. Nom nom nom! My only gripe is more noodles than I like, and I know how to fix that…

I can almost hear the little innocent iPhones weeping from **Unca Swampy’s **lack of affection. :p:D

I’ve updated the blog, finally.

Added:
* Meatloaf on the Grill
* Spanish Rice
* Double chocolate, double ginger cookies
* Bacon-Brown Sugar Coffee Cake (Link)
* Balushkies (Link)
* Chicken and Wild Rice Casserole (Link)

Let me know if I’ve missed anything you wanted blogged.

I hate summer. The heat from the drive home sucked the life out of me, and forced me to nap before critter walks. Bachelor food for dindin tonight. Gordie ate the food scoop out of the food bag again.:dubious:

rigs, so your son spends all his time “playing with his gnome” like ‘im indoors? I don’t play soddin’ WOW, because it would cut into my hockey.

gotti, I have a refurbished(tech speak for “returned because I’m too self-important to RTFM”)Cingular LG500, and I only got that because the duct tape was falling off the Nokia brick phone.

swampy, i guess i can’t count on a free iPhone? i am saddened.

FCM, I got a meeting like that next week. Perfect waste of a day off.

Yay for Petercat, Spaz! all mine require, restraints, drugs, and hordes of (very cute) vet techs to do anything to them.

Congrats to FTT, Noone!

That’s bear for “i kin haz samon? kaithanxbai!”

Spazcat, I am so glad that the cysty thing on PeterCat was only a hairball. It sounds like you all did a good job. Wow, matted hair. I didn’t even know it could get like that.

Vunder Bob, I am so sorry about your kitteh. But you are a good guy for doing the foster thing!

Got back about 10:30pm last night. The train was like two hours late, but it was all good as I sat next to a very cool lady who was a Sunday School teacher and she was just wonderful. Man, I wish that lady had been MY Sunday School teacher! In between conversations about faith and life and stuff I managed to still get some work done.

My mom and dad picked me up at Penn Station and we went to Applebees (my fave) and had dinner, then they dropped me off at my apartment.

I unpacked and I am gonna do laundry later today. I have Friday (Firday??) off and am going to clean my gross dusty apartment and have lunch with a friend.
