Of Surprises and Desserts: A Parisian MMP

gt it would have been nice to meet for lunch or cake or dessert or whatever (yummy French food…) but sounds like you had a ball!

swampy everyone in my office is ordering iphones…me not so much

So what has happened in my exciting life since I was last in here…hmmmmm lessee…ended up in hospital in Libya, got to see my hubby for 10 days back in the US, seen more of my family in the UK in the past few months than I have in several years, been to Norway, ended up on crutches with a buggered up knee in Congo, planning a trip to Kazachstan, working more hours in my current “break from operations” job than I ever did in the field…oh and I officialy am off my crutches as of today and got my final check up appointment next week to make sure I haven’t done any lasting damage

Plans for this weekend include goign to buy naughty womens lacy things as a gift from ‘The Girls’ to one of my bestest friends who is getting married in 6 weeks and whose Hen Do I am going to next weekend (no I am not posting pictures of said women in naughty lacy things before anyone asks).

Enjoy!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN

MMMMMMMMMMMs yikes! It sounds like travel is bad for you. I’m glad you’re all healed up.

Ol’ y’all know who made it safe and sound. A tire blew out but what with the roadside hazard thing and all, he only had to pay eleven dollars to get a new one. Poor thing.

Time for some more caffiene and some brekkies before work purtification.

Later Y’all!

A good way to get a free iPhone is to hide out back of your local ATT store and ambush the delivery truck.

swampus everytime I let a country manager know I am coming to visit they cringe…I just ask now before I go if they will put the local company approved clinic on alert that I am arriving

Everybody can haz Firday!

gt, I leave in Mid-August. This is definitely way too long already, but leaving now would cause more drama than it’s worth. The only one who’d understand a thing is Middlebro, who has the same “lack of me-ness” problem with Mom than I do (in order to “keep the peace” around her, we basically have to give up on any notions of privacy, personal space, personal time or personal plans). If I can grab him aside at some point I’ll explain the Great Escape Plan to him so he’s not too surprised when I don’t “come back” (ie, only to visit), but if I can’t I’ll have to email him, which I’d rather not do as those are in writing. It’s simply not possible to work when you’re physically too close to someone who can’t understand the notion of “not now Mom, I’m on the phone with a client.”

gotti, I really can sympathise with your friend because I went through a very bad patch with ‘im indoors because of the amount of time he spent on WoSW (that’s World of Soddin’ Warcrack in our house). It didn’t get to the point where I was going to leave but it was pretty close and I was giving it serious consideration.

He would get home from work and go straight up to his computer, he rarely came down for dinner on time because he “just had to finish something” then as soon as he could decently leave, he was back up there playing again. He often didn’t get to bed until 2am because he was still playing. The weekends were just as bad, I almost had to physically drag him out to run errands and stuff, and it got to the point where I’d barely see him.

I ended up having to sit him down for a Very Serious Talk and things have improved since then, but I know part of that is the fact that he’s finally getting bored with the game!

Anyway, 'tis Firday and 'tis sunny. I am at work for the next six hours and then I’m heading into town to meet a friend for cocktails. In a bar. With a balcony. I think this evening could be quite entertaining!

Well, I ran into my best friend from high school’s mom yesterday. Turns out friend, Peace Corps Girl, is moving from Macedonia to Indonesia in a couple of months. I wish her luck, but I definitely miss her. I send her emails every once in awhile and I may hear from her once a year in return. This is, however, nothing new, as she is the worst communicator in the world and always has been. Still, it was nice to find out from her mom that at least she is reading my emails.

Today shall be fun as we will be finishing getting ready for our garage sale tomorrow. Lots of work still left to do.

Today’s itinerary: Musee d’Orsay, Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower

The Museum was our first stop. We ate eclairs before going in (FABF had bought some at the corner bakery before we set out for the museum). It’s yet another really coolbuilding, a former train station. It’s also where you’ll find Whistler’s Mother, which is a much larger painting that I’d expected. I also liked this Van Gogh.

Lunch was from a little cafe nearby. There were several places we could have eaten on this street.

After lunch, we walked along the Seine to Notre Dame. Really impressive building, but lots and lots of tourists (to a really obnoxious degree), so it’s hard to enjoy (yeah, I know…).

We made an emergency ice cream stop at the Champs Elysees (don’t ask), then went on to the Eiffel Tower. It’s really cool to get there via Metro, because you get out uphill from the tower.

The most amusing/annoying part of the visit is that there are hundreds of vendors hawking Tower souvenirs. Blinky towers, towers of various sizes, and tower keychains. When we arrived that afternoon, the police were watching out for vendors, so they’d run around a corner and down some steps. When we arrived, we could see them peeking over the side of the steps, hoping for the cops to leave. As we walked down the steps, they offered us their wares. Some were more persistent than others, but we managed to make it through all of them without buying anything.

When we got to the tower, we saw that there was a really really long line…for the elevator. (You can’t see the line in the picture, but you can get an idea of the crowds.) We looked over to where the entrance to the stairs was and…no line. I wasn’t all excited about climbing that many stairs, but the kids were really enthusiastic, so up we went. This was probably our best decision the whole time.

You can only climb to the second level (it’s about 700 steps up; you can also pay to take the elevator from there to the top), but that gives you a really good view of the whole city. It was really hot on the way up, but once we got there, there were beautiful views over the city.

The really cool thing about climbing is that you can admire the structure of the tower from close up. You also see Paris from a great variety of angles. Look! Proof I was in the stairs! What I especially liked about this level was that you could still see a lot of the detail of the city and recognize all of the landmarks.

Tonight I’ll add a bit about our stop at the site of the battle of Verdun, but for those of you who aren’t around on the weekend, here’s a link to the pics. Also, if you didn’t see them, you have to admire the baby wild boars.

And the luggage? When we got back to the hotel after climbing the tower, the clerk at the hotel desk proudly pointed to the luggage holding area. My suitcase had finally arrived! My goddaughter cleverly pointed out that my luggage was with me for less than half my vacation.

Gotta get to work… It’s Firday!!!

(Sorry I haven’t read the latest posts - hugs to all)

GT

Blurf. Happy Firday.

I have to see the opthamologist today for my annual [del]draining of my wallet[/del]eye exam. And Creaky doesn’t even have the courtesy to stay an extra day on The Peeninsula so I could meet her in person while I was in the neighborhood. Harrrumph.

Swampy, could you get me an iPhone and a good plan to go with it? :stuck_out_tongue:

Not much planned for the weekend, ‘cept totin the barge and liftin’ the bale 'round the lair. I AM going fishing Sunday morning, dammit.

HAPPY FIRDAY!!!

Good morning all! Yes, I’m chipper this moning…I’m partially caffeinated and am getting ready to get some brekkie (pancakes!) and a bit more coffee. Spaz, so glad that the “operation” on Petercat turned out okay. BBBBobbio, hope the eye exam isn’t as painful to your wallet as you fear, and that your eyes are A okay.

Welp, better hop to it! LOL

Today I pack up the rest of my stuff. I have set mood to grumpy.

gt, I can so not hardly wait to go now! Interesting comparing Notre Dame with some of the Italian cathedrals, it’s not nearly as ornate.

Yay for Petercat’s successful surgery and recovery.

swampy, don’t hate me cause I wants an iPhone. I promise to wait until my birfday in September to get one.

ems, are you by any chance a lefty?

Thank the overlords that it is Firday and I can leave at 3:00 p.m. I was going to take a vacation day but one of the account execs raised a hissy because SHE was going on vacation and I was the ONLY one who could field calls for our research publication.

S’Okay, because I will just take a longer vacation after the 4th and she can kiss my arse.

I really need a haircut. :stuck_out_tongue:

Tupug

Happy Firday!

Short workday today, and I will join Mr Rebo for a drink at the sports bar this afternoon. I made some crockpot grub, so I won’t have to worry about cooking dinner.

Sliced pork tenderloin, a can of tomatoes, a pkg of sliced mushrooms, some baby carrots, a couple of diced potatoes, chopped onion, cream of chicken soup, dijon mustard, a bit of tomato paste, and a splash of white wine. Salt, pepper and poultry seasoning.

Is it 3:00 yet?

9 PM. Just finished working on a Problem in Production since 9 AM, pretty much straight…

On my weekend.

At least the problem is, we think and hope, solved… :whew:

Yay, hugs, gropes as appropriate or inappropriate. Sorry, did not catch up with what I missed.

I’s tired now…

Would a gay problem be better? Oh wait… you mean you pulled 12 straight hours… Well, the pun stands.

Was it one of those things nobody had thought of trying until a Real User ™ went and pulled it?

Nah, the problem was definitely straight. Thiswas gay, though

As for things standing… You really want to go down that path…?

worse – it was a problem we should have caught in testing. Hadn’t a chance of working properly in a heavy-load, multi-server environment :o

BBBobbio what? Muggin’ a delivery driver for an iPhone wasn’t a good enough plan? :stuck_out_tongue:

Special1 that’s the gayest thing I’ve seen all week!

It’s lookin’ like we might get a tstorm out. Or not. That’s the weirdness of Summer around these parts. It might or might not rain on any given day.

Today, I have decided I don’t hate iPhones so much as the reps who do not know how to read and explain the upgrade options available. Just bookmark the damn article so’s you can pull it up! You know you’re gonna get a lot of calls. SHEESH!

Puggy by September things will have calmed down and you’ll be able to waltz (or tango, twist, samba your choice) into the sto’ and buy one outright to take home and hug and squeeze and name George.

Ol’ y’all know who is on his way home. Says he’s all tahred out. Poor thing.

I need some form of adult beverage, I do believe.

Later Y’all.

Home - what a gawd-awful long day it was! I’m about to take my sweetie out for supper. SIL has gone to work, and daughter is house sitting, so we’re alone till 9-ish.

More rain threatened - eeeesh!

I’s hongreeee. Laterz.

I found a hair on my garlic bread today and another on the plate under the dish that my pasta was on at a local chain restaurant.

This is the third hair that I have found in my food in the last 2 months. YUM!:smack:

Home at last here too. Whew! It seemed like a longer week than usual, but it wasn’t. Ah well, now it’s over. Probably all that rain we had.

We’re getting take-out delivered tonight; I’ve done some of the grocery shopping already too. Fresh fruits and veggies are in the stores finally. I mean semi-local fresh. LOL

GT, it has been such a treat looking at your photos from Paris and Stuttgart! Thank you so very much for sharing them with all of us. And hey, I am loving all those scarves you’re wearing, very chic!

I gotta rest up a bit, i think, before supper. Later…!

I’ve had a lovely productive day off… I finally unpacked my suitcases, did a buncha laundry, tidied up the house, washed some dishes, weeded the garden, staked up the ‘maters (they were starting to get droopy), and finally managed to get my Planter O’ Herbs done (the 2009 edition consists of variegated sweet basil, Thai basil, lemon verbena, golden sage and lemon thyme).

And since I’ve been so wonderfully productive and it’s lovely and sunny out, I think I’ve earned myself a nice cold beerverage while sitting in the backyard soaking up some sunshine.

Yeah, I know… life’s tough.
