This.
Bloody hell. I’m just up and it’s definitely time for a very stiff cup of tea.
RE: Podesta… it’s over and they know it. He’s putting it off because she’s physically or emotionally incapable of appearing tonight. In shock, at least.
Clinton campaign looks like its preparing to challenge.
because he is humble and not condescending.
It’s because Krugman is continuing to make the same arrogant mistake.
Oh for fucks sake. Obama ran on a super positive message. Trump ran on “THIS COUNTRY IS FUCKING TERRIBLE. WE LOSE AT EVERYTHING. EVERYONE BEATS US. WE’RE FUCKING HUGE PILES OF SHIT. EVERYONE IS AWFUL. FUCK EVERYTHING. BUT VOTE FOR ME.”
Their platforms were nothing alike other than saying “I haven’t been a politician for 30 years”
There is such a thing as the alt-left that is against identity politics (they call it IdPol), though it’s not particularly large.
Maybe it’s time to see if the world can take care of itself without the US.
Russia, China and Europe are pretty significant. Maybe they can handle it. They’re smart. The US can descend into a post apocalyptic little house on the prairie survivalism so many Americans dream about.
It’s late. I’m tired.
That’s advocating treason is it not?
Oh the irony.
I’m a skeptical centrist, but I’ll be “that guy” and give him a golf clap. He did a good job outfoxing everyone and winning it fair and square.
Perhaps we can hope that foreshadows some positive abilities as President? (LBJ minus the Vietnam War?)
Are we talking about the same Donald Trump?
I mean I believe that white privilege is a thing, but try explaining white privilege to a white person who feeds a family of four on $20k a year. It makes no logical, strategic sense to focus on a demographic enemy (‘‘white people’’) because they are defacto not gonna give a shit what you have to say if the first thing out of your mouth is that they are racist. My MSW required me to take an entire year-long sequence on the black-white binary, so I understand, fundamentally, what ‘privilege’ means but most people are not interested in a sophisticated academic discussion about the racist history of social policy in the U.S. All they are hearing is ‘‘white = bad.’’
Repeat for feminism. Now I, a woman, have been personally shut down in feminist circles as ‘‘tone policing’’ because I think it’s irrational to hate/fear all men. When people try to slap me down with the ‘if only you had lived what I have’ thing, I inconvenience them by mentioning that I was sexually abused by two stepfathers, and I gasp still don’t hate and fear men. God, what a dumbshit message to send to men you need as allies – that you see them as the enemy. God, what a cowardly fucking move as any advocate. I take this especially personally because 1) I fucking LOVE the men in my life, like would take a bullet for them love and because 2) it makes me look bad as a self-identified feminist.
Even if it were warranted – and I don’t believe it is – it’s just stupid, stupid strategy for implementing change. In fact I’m beginning to question the entire assumption underlying the idea that civil disobedience or rioting have some kind of positive impact on social change. Our surveys bear it out – after Ferguson, more white people were convinced than ever that institutional racism is not a thing.

Yup. Sigh at all the ultra-libs here in their liberal bubbles believing Hillary would win in a landslide… I told you guys this would happen (and I’ll dig up my posts from months ago saying Trump was going to win, because this is the shithole country that we live in. And no I am not at all happy about it).

Look. I do my best not to live in an ultra-liberal bubble. I’ve been following the polling with a full understanding, as explicitly explained by Nate Silver, that they may not be an accurate reflection of the electorate. I’ve watched him get slammed down by HuffPo pundits who had no idea what in the hell they were talking about.
And I’m still rather surprised by the outcome here.
How’s Sturgeon holding up?
Who.
The FUCK.
Are you talking about??
Yeah, I was heartened by China’s reaction to the Trump suggestion of withdrawing from that climate change treaty. Honestly, I’m not sure how much America could’ve done anyway with a Republican Congress.
I actually did like Trump when he was (relatively) harmless to the country and just did his little catchphrase “You’re fired!” on The Apprentice. But fucking President Trump? No, no, no. These are unequivocally the End of Days.
A lot of people have said this in this thread but I don’t really understand it.
It reminds me of my rather stubborn son when he was younger. He would be not doing something that needed to be done (like putting on his shoes before school) but if you tried to push him he’d then say he was refusing to put his shoes on because he refused to be pushed around. But he wasn’t putting his shoes on anyway…
In other words, Dem disdain for people who planned to vote for Trump hardly mattered since they were lost anyway. And undecided voters weren’t being called names because they weren’t Trump supporters. Unless they decided they were going to be Trump supporters. In which case they were lost anyway.
I have said it before and I will say it again. You are a great example of a really good liberal. Many of the rest of them could learn from your understanding and approach. There wouldn’t be much conflict if most self-professed liberals were made in your mold. Unfortunately, many see it as a zero-sum combat sport and that will almost never wins in the long-term.
