Honestly, I was having doubts I would ever live to see the day (and I’m not even yet 22!) But by God they did it! This is why us Red Sox fans put ourselves through year after year of misery, so we can have our one shining moment in the sun!! For 365 days we can say we are the champions, and everyone else sucks (though the Cardinals put up a good fight.)
I wish I had somewhere to go to celebrate, but being stuck in northern NY, I’m in enemy territory. I’m still tempted to run through the streets chanting, ‘go sox!’
I’m tearing up, and I’m not even a Sox fan. (I was a Mets fan in '86, and rejoiced at Buckner’s fumble). BoSox, I salute thee.
But I’m a bit surprised that the announcers were so subdued after that final out. I’ve heard the broadcast of the “shot heard 'round the world” World Series, with the announcer hysterically shrieking “THE GIANTS WIN THE PENNANT! THE GIANTS WIN THE PENNANT!” I expected something similar this time, like “Ladies and gentlemen, the curse has been lifted, and the Red Sox are world champions!” Maybe it just didn’t sink in right away; maybe they were just awestruck.
My Dad was born in Jamaica Plain in 1926, eight years after the Sox last won the Series. He is in bad health in a hospital tonight, but I just went through the last three outs with him on the phone.
He is a happy man tonight. I can’t really put it in words tonight.
A good solid 45 seconds after the Sox won I got a phone call from my little sister honeymooning in Hawaii with her Yankees fan husband to share the moment
While I’m glad I got to see something in my lifetime that many people have not, I’m just sad that now my team is the only cursed one, and now we’ll be the whiney fans
My one true love and I have had a blast throughout the post-season. (except for me rooting for the Angels in the division series) I was thrilled that the Sox caused the Yankees pain.
I am happy we won’t have to hear about the curse anymore.
