This is top of the list for stupid dumb ass moves. The Mt. Tabor Reservoir has 7,200,000 gallons of water dumped, because a man was caught pissing in an open reservoir. Animals piss and die in the reservoir all the time but one person being caught pissing in it requires all the water being dumped. It’s not like I support this guy not getting fined or something, but saying you want him to pay restitution for dumping 7.2 million gallons of water is stupid as hell. The person that dumped that much water for this should be fired.
I notice the pit thread isn’t really a pit thread. It’s more of a make fun of stupid official with joking thread.
I agree, extremely stupid. How in the world you’d detect any of his urine in that much water is beyond me. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
This reminds me of one time when a tank inspector was killed doing an inspection in a live drinking water tank. He was in the tank (in SCUBA gear) when he got too close to the outflow line and his head got sucked into it. The other diver said the force of the water trying to go past him just beat him all to hell. By the time the other diver surfaced and called for help the man was dead.
Anyway, hundreds of people drank that tank water that day, and nothing untoward happened. A little pee is nothing to worry about.
Well, he is not an idiot because he likes his job.
The real idots are all the people who would freak out if they DIDN’T drain it.
Facts and reason have nothing to do with it.
Fish f*ck in that water you know!
Actually, I don’t think many, if any, fish have penetrative sex. I was always under the impression that, in general, the female lays the eggs, and the male comes around afterwards and fertilizes them.
So that means all those fish are just blowing their loads directly into your drinking water!
The picture in that article is accurate, a lot of the water in Portland is in open reservoirs. More ducks and geese shit in that thing every day than all the bums in Portland do all year.
So I hate to interfere in anyone’s recreational outrage but what is the real loss here? This is rainwater. In Portland. Isn’t it really just a matter of a couple of days for it to fill back up again (Okay that might be hyperbole, but still no real water shortage there)
So they dumped water into the eco system that was taken out of the eco system and held in this pond. Is there a huge cost to opening the outlet valves and letting the water drain away?
Apparently the loss is about $35,000 instead of the original claim of $600,000 the city says the clean up would cost them. I guess they didn’t go for double bleaching the reservoir before refilling. Valve turning = $35,000
But there should be no loss at all- who cares if the cat pisses on my spring onions?
This seems just so silly.
The issue is probably there are some arcane requirements that need to be done by the EPA or some such nonsense.
To be perfectly blunt, I would challenge those morons to find significant amounts of urine in a 250 gallon tank, let alone a freaking reservoir. If nobody had seen the guy pissing on camera nobody would have fucking even known it had happened like it has probably happened hundreds of times previously.
I don’t know how they came up with $35,000 but even if it was a dollar it’s fiduciary malfeasance. Someone needs some vacation time.
Where exactly did they “dump” all that water? And isn’t this water treated before its used as drinking water?
