My family bought a puppy(her name is Jewel) for Easter. Since she is a Miniature Schnauzer, she has gotten her ears clipped. Owww!!! I can’t stand looking at her with her ears stitched and plastered to her head with tape. It just rips at my heart and I can’t eat when she is around me. I want to cry for her.
Just so that you know, this is the first dog that we have done this to. With our first Miniature Schnauzer we let her ears go. Of course, they stood up like bat ears. As soon as this happened we took her to the vet and they buttoned her ears down. When they took the buttons out, ::SPROING!!:: they were back up. We didn’t modify them anymore.
Oh, and by the way, Jewel will get the stitches out on Monday, but my parents are leaving for the weekend. I will be in charge of her, and I don’t know how I will cope with her. I know it sounds silly, but she just seems so uncomfortable and pitiful that I can’t stand it.
The good thing about dogs (or the bad thing, depending on the situation) is that 1- they wear their hearts on their sleeves and 2- their memories are for shit.
Your dog probably hates life right now, but as soon as his ears are healed, he’ll be right as rain. You just have to weather the storm with him.
I know when my pooch was sick last summer, I felt horrible for her. She just napped when she could, broken up every hour or so to go poop (and I use the term loosely). It took about a week and half to nurse her back to health. But that first day she felt ok, she was off and running at the dog park like nothing was ever the matter.
I hope this doesnt turn into a debate… but THAT SUCKS… I am so adimantly against cropped ears and tails. I will ONLY have my dogs in their natural state… excluding gonads in most cases.
Whammo, I am the same way. Unfortunately, my parents wanted our dog to look different than our previous one. I could care less. Who cares if she looks like a bat or gremlin. I know that the dog is just as loving and playful uncut. Jewel doesn’t need to have her ears cropped because she is not going to be a show dog. Oh, well. What’s done is done.
I’ve always had dogs that didn’t need any cropping or docking or whatever. I don’t think I’d want to have it done, though. I agree - leave them in their natural state.
But, dlgirl, like Jack says, she’ll soon forget all about it, so don’t worry about it. Like you say, it’s done.
My family had a Schnauzer with natural ears, and hers flopped half-over. I’ve only seen one Schnauzer with a natural tail, and it did look a bit strange.
