Granted, that performance was horrid, but why does she deserve this? For having had the bad fortune of getting publicly screwed by Kanye West? As long as I never have to hear that song again, I’m okay with her.
Well, a strong role model for girls. My daughter is a young 15, and is very anti-sexism. Taylor Swift has written her own songs from the age of 12 and performs them on the guitar, so she’s not just a Britney Spears singing someone else’s music. The lyrics that I’ve heard have her being a dreamy-eyed romantic, yet strong, person.
and
I don’t know any people who aren’t pre- and teenaged girls who listen to her. But for now, it’s kind of nice for my kid to hear someone not singing about taking a ride on his disco stick or how boys just want to touch her junk, for a change.
Sorry, I can hardly think straight. My daughter has been replaying the Taylor Swift performance from last night, again and again and again.
I’m neither teenage nor am I a girl (actually, a 24 year old married veteran) and I will rock out to Taylor Swift whenever, wherever-much to the embarrassment of my wife.
I have nearly all her singles memorized but even I hated this performance. She should have gone out there with a fun song that showed that she was over it. And if anything asked Kanye if he likes fishdicks.
Britney co-writes many of her songs, so I have to take issue with this statement - someone will surely say “co-write?! She probably just changes one word!” but unless we’re in the studio with the writers we can’t prove that either way.
Sure she’s not a Taylor Swift type who plays an instrument and does the majority of the writing herself, but she’s not the great example of pop-muppet-singing-other-people’s-songs that many people think she is. I think you could have made your point better with another artist.
The fact that people want to say bad things about Taylor when Kanye is the one who did an immoral act says a lot about the morality of the populace.
So what if this is a publicity grab? Kanye thrived on this publicity, despite being the douchebag in the scenario. Why can’t she at least bring it up once?
Because as someone who listens to a lot of pop and rap music, homeboy has been shunned pretty hard over the last year. He basically dropped completely off the radar until literally a few weeks ago.
Not sure where rape comes into it, but I’m sure MTV/Viacom steered/prodded both of them into their acts this year, maybe Swift more than Kanye. Great for ratings.
I know this is going to sound stupid but I didn’t know the song was directed at Kanye. I came in just as she started singing so I don’t know if there was any kind of intro and while I was half listening to it I caught a few words and thought for a split second “I wonder if she’s trying to be ironic, singing a song about forgiveness on the very award show she was dissed” but dismissed it because I wouldn’t have believed she would be that cheesy :smack: I agree with those that say it was totally staged, possibly even coerced, by the producers, but I think she came off badly. It made her seem self righteous and a poor winner.
He didn’t thrive on the publicity - if it was a lesser artist his career would have been finished. This was the last in a long line of asshole actions, and it was considered the official moment of “too far”.
President Obama called him a jackass, he cancelled his tour with Lady Gaga (imagine how huge that could have been), delayed his album and took a year out from doing anything at all - hardly “thriving on the publicity”.
Taylor, meanwhile, got all the sympathy in the world, won 400 Grammys as I mentioned before - I mean, yeah, she deserved sympathy but it’s not like Kanye was the one who benefited from this controversy.
The only way Kanye has been able to claw himself back into people’s good books is by apologising every five minutes and releasing amazing songs, building anticipation for his new album.
Song is catchy, I will give her that, because it is stuck in my head.
I sure don’t find anything role-model worthy in her lyrics at all, but I will admit, it’s catchy.
Big T, just because Kanye did something mean and dumb doesn’t mean Taylor Swift is an angel of pure driven snow. I’m sure she’s got plenty flaws like any other celeb for fans to snark on. It comes with the territory.
