angry at the way dave was treated, angry at the way the men have treated you lovely ladies. smoetimes my gender can be real idiots. present company and Wyatt exempt.
I did want to decloak a couple of times, but often because of the infrequency that I check the boards, it woudl be 3 pages on from where I wanted to comment, so I didn’t.
Hey all, good to see that Optihut and Psalex checked back in. Glad you made it back and had fun Rocky.
Sorry I went missing a few days, had a rough weekend and now I have 2 little boys with croup and a nasty cold or something myself.
Dreamer, sorry to here your weekend was a bummer. If you look back 10 pages or so, you can find about 15 new age, California cold cures, as posted by Wyatt. Many hugs to you, dear!
Humpf! The professor told me to prepare a bit for the internship and wants to send me to another part of the institute, which is in a city 30 km away.
So far so good, but what I really wanted to know is whether things are A-Ok with the Canadians. When I asked the professor about that, he basically said “Oh, you never heard back from them? Well, you should write a reminder e-mail.”
So, now I am sitting here and need to write up that e-mail.
By the way, where is Dave?
Oh and Dreamer, those colds are quite an annoyance - I recently had one myself and it lasted for about a week. Although after the worst part, where every gulp hurts, is over, it isn´t that bad anymore, imho.
Huh, okay. I’ve been part of a debate regarding the house rules at a friend of mine’s 6 week poker night. Traditionally, the house rule was that in a Hi-lo game the Ace would be high if you went high, and low if you went low as to allow for a swing.
This one guy (who plays in a lot of poker tourneys here and in Reno/Vegas) insists that the proper low should be an actual straight, ace-5. We’d always played that the lowest low was ace-4, 6. He keeps wanting us to change the rule for the low.
Ace-high, ace-low? To me - ok, I am clueless - this sounds more like blackjack than poker. I always thought poker was a straightforward “collect cards of the same type or colour” kind of game…
Well, it really depends on the game you play, and who you play it with. I mean, in a “friendly” game, everyone should be willing to be a little flexible and relax a bit. A-4, 6 works for you; he shouldn’t have a big problem with it. It generally follows that you go with the host’s wishes. What does he want to do? 2-6, 8 is usually a low lock in the home game I play.
Optihut, I’m sorry you’re getting the run around. When are you supposed to go for this other interview??
Well, the run around in the near vicinity isn´t that bad and I scheduled it for the 20th of October, since I still have exams to write until the 15th of October.
But the issue with the Canadians is bothering me - what if they didn´t like my CV? The lack of a reply suggests the worst. Once I´ve composed an e-mail, I´ll post it here and will send it off tomorrow, after the obvious flaws it will contain are ironed out.
Ok, here´s the first draft of the e-mail I want to send. If there are any glaring blunders or typos in it, please let me know:
Dear Dr. X,
today I talked to Professor Y about the internship. On the 20th of October I am going to meet with Dr. Z in Jülich in order to prepare for it and to glean some insights about the subject matter. Are there any specific points I should heed in particular?
Other than that, is there anything else besides the CV, which you need from me? When do you expect me to start working? For me personally late March or early April would be a good time, nevertheless, I could also rearrange my schedule, if it should suit you better.
Dreamer - don’t let them get ahead of you. your first pitch has to be a strike. keep them off balance, and you can stay in control even without a voice.
no, i don’t know anything about baseball, but living near the giants and a’s like i do, i have to pretend
Hm
The second paragraph needs a little work, I think. Kinda turn it around a bit. “Do you think you’d be needing me earlier than the end of March? If so, what date did you have in mind for me to start?” Sounds a bit better…
I agree that the second paragraph might be worded too aggressive / demanding. However, your suggestion would invite the “ok, come around earlier” response, imho. That would throw the monkeywrench into my exam plans for the next semester and besides, if I am going to Canada, I´d prefer to be there in a warmer season
