Oh say it isn't so!!!

I just saw Sting do a Jaguar commercial. I’m so disillusioned. sniff

Was it a Jag driving thru fields of clover?

I expected it, sooner or later. He lost his edge after “Soul Cages”. Sure, “Ten Summoner’s Tales” was good, but it just didn’t have the same feeling behind it.

Besides, doesn’t he have almost a half-billion kids to support? grin

He lost his edge (if he ever had one to begin with) when he left the Police.

I feel I have to speak up here and defend perhaps the greatest song writer still making music in the world today. I have the pleasure of listening to Stings latest, Brand New Day, recently and found it to be very sophisticated and quite brilliant in parts.
I have yet to see this commercial Opal, but I’ve no reason to doubt you. I, for one, do not think someone has “sold out” by making a commercial but thats MHO. I do think that Sting is still an incredible artist and has not “lost his edge”. He has simply followed his instincts and grown in a different direction as an artist.
I recommend any who post in this thread to check that latest cd out for yourself.

He’s (not) a spirit in a material world.

Reminds me of the time years ago when I saw Henry Rollins in a magazine ad for Apple computers. You coulda knocked me over with a feather.

“My hovercraft is full of eels.”

I used to think Sting was the greatest. I even enjoy his jazzy stuff immediately post Police. Then, he made that really crappy song with Bryan Adams and Rod Stewart and I completely lost faith.

These days, I hear his music over the bass-challanged office speakers while I labor under flourescent lighting.

I’m so depressed…

Sting has been doing commercials for years. I remember reading an article a few years back that was about actors and musicians doing commercials and ads for foreign products. Sting used to do spots for Sapporo beer as I recall.

I haven’t seen the Jaguar ad, but I did see Sting in an ad for Compaq computers. I guess they must either be a sponsor for his tour or a technical supplier–or both.

I’m another big fan of the Soul Cages album. Out of all of his CDs that I’ve got, that is the one that finds its way into my CD player the most often. Beautiful songs…
