The Phantom Tollbooth is an awesome book.
Love you all, nice to see Bumba, where the hell are welby and Ex, etc. Going to bed. See you all tomorrow.

Hah! I’m awake, why aren’t you? Actually, I couldn’t sleep, so I figured I’d make myself drowsy and try again
In the morning, I’m picking Cousin up at the train and we are off to beautiful downtown Braintree, MA to spend the weekend with friends, so I’ll catch up on everything Sunday evening. Who’s got next week? (I’ll probably check in one more time before I head out, but if I don’t, have a great weekend, all)
Let’s see if I can do this right…
swampie, you can come stalk me any time you want, bring ACBG over too. May I add that line to my list of “strange compliments”? I have several cute ones.
rosie, you would actually pay me for it? I’ve been doing it for free all my life, mostly I’m not allowed to do it as much as I’d like to. Once I did it in front of my mother and her best friend (whom I absolutely love, she’s got all the sense Mom doesn’t), best friend used that same expression about “putting people in their places” and Mom stared at me and said thoughtfully “maybe that’s why she’s so bad about putting stuff in its place, prefers doing it to people, what do you think?” Best friend declared it was time for more chocolate milkshakes (the kind made with actual milk and natural chocolate ice cream).
Bumba, anything with Hershey’s in the name isn’t chocolate. My brother managed to lose all ten of his fingernails when he was 6, but they’re fine now, all square and pink and purdy. He was kneeling on a metal garden chair trying to rock it, Dad said “sit down properly, you’re likely to hurt yourself”, kid said “nah”, gave a bigger push that finally managed to move the chair and there Humpty Dumpty fell: chair, a table, and a kid whose fingers were all trapped between the back of the chair and the floor. He was in so much pain that he couldn’t even make owow noises, he was just all white with his mouth and his eyes open real wide like the  smiley. Dad stared at him and said “sometimes I just hate being right. Let’s go get those fingers looked at” and we all hopped over to the Red Cross.
Good morning! Another exciting day of work. It’s cooled down after the torms from yesterday, and most of the leaves are on the ground… I helped move a few things for a church auction last night, the house where we picked the stuf up was huge. The kitchen was bigger than my entire apartment.
rosie, congrats on being a part author of the big book of Evil.
SCL, I don’t get to see hockey in person for two weeks. Enjoy.
With all the talk of the wimminfolk stalking/proposing to swampy, I’m getting Google ads for silk bed sheets and Trouble sleeping.
Morning each! Another uneventful morning over here in academia.
Last night was quite amusing, I was going home on the bus (last bit of my commute, takes about 15 minutes) and there was a kid sitting at the back of the bus (probably about 18-19 years old) talking to a girl he was obviously quite interested in. His chat-up lines seemed to involve very little more than the number of times he’d been arrested by the police, what for, how long he’d been in custody and the amount of vodka he could drink without falling over. Perhaps if he’d shut his mouth for more than two seconds she’d have got the chance to tell him she wasn’t interested because he was such a complete tosser. Sadly, he barely seemed to stop long enough to draw breath so she had to put up with it. He was still talking when I got off at the bottom of the street.
Nothing else really - Ophelia went to the vet for her booster shots, the vet said she’s fine and very healthy for a two year-old. Came home, had dinner, had the soak in the bath I’d been promising myself all day (blissful, with a bit of Lush’s “Blue Skies and Fluffy White Clouds”), then watched Jericho and went off to bed. Bizarre dreams ensued, but that’s not unusual!
So it’s Friday, I’m at work, got a bunch of reports to check - they come from various databases and I have to fill in the blank bits left by people who can’t be arsed to populate their own database properly. Just a little grrrr here and there.
Is it time to go home yet?
I’m living dangerously this morning. Just got back from work, where I PARKED IN A TOW-AWAY ZONE while dropping my taco dip stuff off. Shocking, no?
Turns out the parking meters in front of our building are a tow-away zone from 3:00-9:00 a.m. instead of 6:00-9:00 a.m. like I thought. There were still other cars there, so I parked where they’d have to tow someone else first and ran in and out in no time flat. Well, it took maybe 3 minutes.
If no one else is in a volunteering mood, I can start things off on Monday. No idea what, but I’ll come up with something…
GT
You have to volunteer? You mean you don’t have the names of the coolest people all ready in a hat?
Ok folks gt (that rakish scofflaw who parks in tow away zones) has graciously stepped forward (that little twirl she did was over the top but still gracious) to be our hostess with the mostess next week.
All in favor say “Aye.”
[color=red]AYE!!![/color
All those opposed (like any of us care) say “Nay.”
::CRICKETS::
The “Ayes” have it. gt (if she doesn’t get busted for her outlaw ways over the weekend) will be our fearless leader next week.
Nava I am honored to be numbered amongst your strange compliments. I find that to be highly complimentary.
Preview? I don’t need no stinkin’ preview!
At least the heat is off me for my coding screwups…
Hey, I think BooFae is volunteering for the week after. What d’you guys think?
How can I be volunteering? That would mean you’d have to say I was cool!
This is the Cool Kids ™ Thread, you know.
OK, all in favor of BooFae doing our OP on the 27th, say AYE
AYE
All against, say NAY
We have us the OP’er for next week and the week after, yay!
AIEEEEEEEEEE!
Wait, did we all just agree to buy a Kia?
Anyway, it’s FRIDAY! Survived another week which, unfortunately, is ending thus far on a soggy and miserable note outside. I take solace only in that I don’t live out on the west coast at this point in time. Any Vancouverites here affected by nature’s thrashing this week?
BooFae you’ll be a great hostess with the mostess. All it takes to be a cool kid is to post in the MMP after all. See, all the cool kids are just naturally drawn to the MMP. We don’t recruit. Cool kids just know where all the other cool kids hang out.
And in other news:
We made the front page of the Albeeeny Herald about our Crimmus Ornament bein’ all sold out! It’s not up in the online edition yet (they still got yesterday’s stuff up) or I’d linky to it. I haven’t checked yet but that’s also supposed to be announced on the front of our web page now.
so, BooFae is your nickname now? I can dig it. As you can see by this week’s OP, no special talent is needed (Sorry, Sean ;)) You can tell us how you spent the weekend that here is the States we spend by staring at a parade commentated by Celebrities-Du-Jour, eating waay too much, arguing with family, watching 7,564 hours of (American) Football, fighting hoardes of other mall shoppers to get that ***ONE HOT GIFT ***for the kids, only to find out they’ve sold out when you get there, and sleeping thru church Sunday morning.
Ok - this is me leaving. See you Sunday night
Greetings from the fancy paid for by my taxpayers hotel room! Guees what???
Ok, I’ll tell you. last night, on the way to the fancy steakhouse the wife & I went to for dinner, I passed by a place where they had the Reader out on display, and I grabbed one!!!
My god, it’s been, lessee…7 years since I worked downtown on a daily basis, and probably that long since I held the thing in my hands and read it.
Ahhhh…the memories…the cheap ink smeared all over my hands…the snoothy, elitist arts critics, and the even snootier, elitister letters to the editor rippiing the art critics…the socially conscious page One article (continued on page 8)…Cecil educating the masses on sodium azide on page 5…
It’s like heaven…
I’m going to take section Two and head down to the lobby for my free breakfast, then kill the day doing mundane pointless things.
I think BooFae is a great nickname. So, that’s what Ima use anyways.
Bye rosie! Have fun! Bring us back sump’n good!
MBG sounds like the bein’ schmoozed is goin’ good. It’s nice to be schmoozed every now and then.
Have fun, rosie - bring us back a stick of rock!
MBG, you’re obviously upholding a very fine tradition of mundanity and pointlessisity! Yes, I’m making up words this afternoon…it’s what us web editors is allowed to do and you can’t stop me!
