Oh Well, No New Cullinary Adventure For Me...

My wife calls me up at work, and tells me that with Mother’s Day coming, she wants to bake her mother a new type of cake. She tells me she’s currently baking a “test cake”, just to make sure it comes out ok.

“Woohoo!”, thinks me – I’ll be the one to test this sucker out.

“So, what’cha making?”, I ask.

“A bacon filled cake”, she says.

“Ohhhhh-kay…”, I reply, trying to figure out if this’ll be utterly revolting or not. I mean, I love cake…I love bacon…might they actually work well together? I’d doubt it, buuuut…

“What’s the matter?”, she asks, “You think it’ll come out bad?”

“Well,” I reply, “it could work…but she’s not really that big on bacon, is she?”

“On bacon?? What, in a cake??”

“What? You said it was a bacon filled cake, didn’t you?”

“No, dippy…I said a Bake’n Fill Cake!”

:smack:

I suppose that makes a bit more sense.

Of course, if someone wants to try and put together a recipie, I’d still be open to trying a bacon-filled cake…

Reminds me of a line from one of the Wonderful World of Disney shows from years ago. It was either Mr. Boogedy or Return of Boogedy or something like that (a Halloween special). The town was gearing up for the annual festival, and one of the locals was preparing a booth with his homemade ice cream. The specialty flavor was Spinach Ice Cream with Crunchy Bacon Bits.

I want that chocolate one filled with cherries. It’s like a great big truffle!

I suppose you could make cornbread with bacon in it, that sounds tasty and is sort of like a cake.

If you can wrap steak in bacon, and scallops in bacon, how about cheesecake wrapped in bacon? I think the saltiness of the bacon would nicely accent the cheesecake, but I think that it wouldn’t work for regular cake.

Sounds like Rachel Green’s trifle.

“What’s not to like? Custard, good. Jam, good! Meat, good!!!”

My cousins and I put together a new flavor of ice cream after we had picked all the crunchy bits out of the butter pecan ice cream. Curry scallion crunch. Of course, we snuck it back in the freezer. Wish I could say that someone tried it, but nobody said anything, so I’m guessing not.

I think that salty ice cream could work, as long as you don’t overdo it. Bacon bits are probably less than ideal, though.
