And let’s not forget that the GOP is the “pro-life” party – well, at least until you’re born anyway, then fuck you you’re on your own.
These are the same GOP assholes who had no problem with the Alex Jones Sandy Hook BS, but are now heartbroken over this tragedy.
Wait, wait. If the overwhelming majority of mass shooters are male…
If the current shooter was transitioning to male and getting testosterone…
Then isn’t it masculinity that’s the problem?
Okay, yeh, I’m applying logic where there is none. My bad.
This implies they have hearts.
“We’re not generating enough angry white guys to stay in business for the long term.” --Republican Senator Lindsey Graham
→ “culture wars”
→ Fox News, OANN, and Newsmax
→ “angertainment”
There’s gotta be a pump someplace to put out all those crocodile tears.
Look at how happy these dead children made Republicans; they are giddy they can blame this on being woke.
Everything in your post is undersold. All over reddit gun nuts are posting a meme listing the names of four trans mass shooters, with the last line in the meme being “Do you see a pattern?”
Four. Out of hundreds.
I agree with them though, very strongly. They’re absolutely correct. There is a very significant point that they’re making, which is that it’s rare for a trans person to lash out in this way despite the extremely poor way society treats them just for being themselves.
I’m super going to hell, but “So they only care about certain kids at certain times? Preborn and post-alive?”
If you are, so am I. It’s something we’ve been saying here (at least, those of us that think) a lot lately. We’ve had some scandal here of late because DCS has been keeping kids in office buildings to sleep, not being timely in trying to help the kids and families, etc. So you think our legislature has given a damn about this? Hell no.
A lot of the schools downtown were staging a walk out/protest at the Capital today. CtE said a bunch from their school were going to go to it. I wish I’d known that it wasn’t an on campus protest (since all they told me yesterday was “protest”, this morning they gave me the full picture) because I’d have given them a note to go. They’re about 15 blocks from the Capitol, so definitely an easy walk to make. Instead, they’re coming home early because there isn’t anything happening in any of their classes.
I’d been thinking for a while that all of this anti-trans legislation would eventually lead to a trans person taking their own life in a very public way. I just hadn’t thought that they will kill a bunch of other people in the process.
? AFAICT, no conclusive evidence about the Nashville shooter’s (purported) motives has yet been revealed.
There seems to be a lot of media swirl around various vague claims about the alleged “manifesto” left by the shooter, and suggestions that it indicated resentment against transphobic policies. Which might be true, sure, but I don’t think it’s been confirmed by facts so far.
Buck_Godot, I honestly hadn’t thought of that possibility. A lot more trans people taking their lives, yes. But I hadn’t thought publicly. Unfortunately, it was another case of murder suicide done in the wrong order.
Kimstu, everything I’m hearing on my Nashville stations is mum on the motives. Though they are playing a lot of the other heart-string tugging things, like the 911 calls. I’m not listening. I just can’t. I’ve got too much hurt in my heart right now to listen to something that will add more.
The three pillars of the GOP are Treason, Bigotry and Child Murder.
Don’t. It is a horrible thing and listening to all the speculation about it doesn’t accomplish anything except to make the listener feel shittier.
You left out “Greed, tax evasion, grifting the rubes, and Bigotry”.
You said “Bigotry” twice.
We like Bigotry.
With apologies to Mel Brooks & Blazing Saddles.
But the big one is child murder; Republicans love them some dead kids, whether it’s brown ones (terrorists), black ones (thugs); or miscellaneous (the price of our gun laws). Republicans are some child murdering pieces of shit. They pretend to care about kids when they ban abortion, but we all know that’s about controlling women’s sexuality.
Just when I think our legislature can’t get any lower…
Yesterday, thousands of parents and students protested at the Capitol in Nashville.. I know for a fact that many of the kids at my eldest’s school walked (with parental permission) from their campus downtown to the Capitol to participate. These are parents and students that decided to step up and say that we’ve had enough. And what was the reaction of the Republicans there?
“You’re not being heard. You’re just creating pink noise that is getting drowned out. I don’t think any legislature hears, regardless if you’re on the right or the left. If you’re going to stand and act a fool, you’re not going to be heard,” said Rep. Jeremy Faison (R-Cosby).
– After having to walk through a tunnel of protestors.
Or this one, from the same article:
“Even if we had the California, most restrictive ban on weapons in the country, when you have someone that’s willing to die and kill other people you cannot stop them,” said Speaker of the House Cameron Sexton (R-Crossville).
This is the first time since Monday that ANY of the Republicans have agreed to speak with the press about the tragedy.
Sexton even likened the protest to January 6th, calling it an “insurrection”.
In particular, he called out three of his collogues: Justin Jones (who happens to be my Representative and has my full support), Justin Pearson, and Gloria Johnson. All three are among the few Democrats in the chamber. They spoke out of order, which he equated to “trying to take over the House Floor.”
“The consequences, which we’ve never had this happen before, and I will mention that two of the members, Rep. Jones and Rep. Johnson have been very vocal about January 6th in Washington D.C., about what that was, and what they did today was equivalent—at least equivalent, maybe worse, depending on how you look at it—of doing an insurrection in the Capitol,” Sexton said.
He’s trying to have them ousted because, of course the few people that are willing to stand up against them can’t be allowed to remain. He also said that the real goal of the protestors was to be photographed being arrested and walked out.
And for all that he is likening the protests to January 6th, unlike then
no injuries were reported following Thursday’s protests at the Tennessee State Capitol, and no arrests were made, according to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office.
Of course, several of the Republican legislators sided with Sexton, going to Twitter to call this the “Tenneessee Capitol Insurrection” and called the protestors “an insane mob”. (If they were such an insane mob then why weren’t there any arrests? Why was no one hurt? Hrmmmm…)
According to the article, the three lawmakers stated that they were trying to argue against continuing to pander to the NRA, not incite anything. And the few other Democrats, along with a few Republicans, agreed that was what happened.
I am ashamed of the state I live in. I shouldn’t be surprised that they showed absolutely no sympathy for any of the parents and children that were affected by the shooting, since they don’t give a damn about anyone after they’re born. (Well, no one except the asses they can kiss to line their fucking pockets.) I want so badly for Tennesseans to see what kind of light this puts our state in, how damaging it is to the most vulnerable people of our state. But Sexton and his cronies have guaranteed that it will be a long time, if ever, that the voices of those who disagree with them will be heard in those hallowed halls. And if this is how they depict people peacefully protesting, there’s never a chance that they’ll listen to anything the common man has to say.
Yeah, I’m still pissed. I’m still so fucking sick of Tennessee’s backwards ways and focusing on the wrong things. I’m still so tired of nothing changing the minds of the assholes in charge when it comes to common sense gun laws, instead whipping up their base with false claims of “they want to take your guns.” I am so fucking OVER the bullshit coming out of Tennessee and I really, really wish that I had the option to move anywhere else. Or the power to make actual change.
Well I think - think - they’re trying to protect under-18 children. Children who might need to undergo therapy vs. gender reassignment. I don’t have a problem with that.
