Ohhhh, looky, a springy MMP!

(just for SCL)

What’s the mating call of a Georgia Peach?

Wheeeeeeeeooooo, I’ve had too much to drink!

How does a Georgia Peach turn on the lights after sex?

She opens the car door.

Why do Georgia Peaches not like about orgies?

Having to write all those thank you notes afterward.

This is all Bobbio’s fault. He started it.

How can you tell a Georgia Peach has been using a computer?

there’s whiteout on the screen

How can you tell she’s been back?

there’s writing on the whiteout

we could go on like this for days.

If the person asking is someone at work, or someone I’m not very close with, I say “I will keep him/her/them (as appropriate) in my thoughts” If the asker is someone who knows me fairly well or better, I say “I’ll have my wicca friend speak to Gaia on her(his/their) behalf”

I have that dream a lot! I thought I was the only one. Oh, and sometimes there is privacy and the facility is in good working order, but the floor is filthy or flooded and I can’t get to it.

ETA: as soon as I finish waking up, I will get dressed, throw the last few things into the suitcase and hit the road. See y’all Monday night.

Bye rosie! Have fun! No picking up hitch hikers!

Ok, the N.O.T. sallit is done and the ribs are smokin’ away on the smoker. I even made sausage biscuits for breakfast. I’m just too good.

I wiped down the back porch yet again. Dang pollen! We need rain around here real bad.

Morning, all. Barely. I had a rough first part of the night, couldn’t get to sleep because my knee was aching SO much, so I finally gave in and took a stronger pain pill, and then I slept like a baby till 10:00 this morning. Woke up to find the pups and I have been abandoned – Papa Tigs and Lapin Blanc have gone to the zoo. So heaven knows when I’ll see them again.

At least after my good night’s sleep, the swelling in my knee is finally going down nicely. And the whole thing is turning a lovely sickly shade of yellowy-green, all the way down my shin. I had to change the nasty steri-strips so now at least it doesn’t have all that nasty old blood on it, but I think I may have to go back in for a stitch or two on Monday – the popped section of my incision hasn’t quite sealed up, and the last thing I want is an opening for infection to get in there. But at least it’s not bleeding any more!

I have that same pee dream, too, FCM and Rosie. It’s amazing how common some dreams are, isn’t it?

Off to caffeinate some more.

Fellow Pagan here - if it’s someone I don’t know very well or who is looking for general emotional support, I say something along the lines of “I’ll be keeping you in my thoughts” or “good vibes coming your way.” If it’s someone I’m close to or someone who needs specific intervention/support, I may follow that up with “I will keep a candle lit for you” or (as WhyNot has done on occasion) ask for permission to include that person in ritual.
Happy Belated, Welby!

And we’re off to Lowe’s again for more plumbing stuff. I’ve washed down the residue of the gel that we used to remove the borders. I’ve got to patch a couple of small gouges in the drywall, then I can put on a coat or 2 of primer. The ceiling patch is in place, but it’ll need texturing when the first coat of mud dries. Looks like today **FCD ** will work in the basement and I’ll work upstairs. As long as we don’t need the same tools at the same time, it should be fine…

I think we should have lunch while we’re out.

Well, so yesterday was my last day of work (actually I’ll be going back in on Monday and Tuesday just because I didn’t have time to properly pass my project on to the next person, and I don’t like doing that if I don’t have to–and I don’t!) Thus my company all went out for dinner to celebrate (?) me leaving and three other people who recently joined (it’s a startup.)

So as I’m getting ready to leave to go home, one of the girls from the company chases after me to make sure that I’ll send her my email address and that I won’t ignore it… She’d been acting a bit odd through the night (I’d asked her if she was drunk earlier but apparently she wasn’t.) So now I’m having to wonder how I’m going to deal with what looks to be a crush from a thin, cute, ex-C-programmer chick *–when I’m going to be leaving the country in a month.

Argh… If it wasn’t for the situation, I’d be jumping up and down singing Yellow’s “Oh yeah.” But at the moment it’s kind of like “Ya know, I’m leaving Japan because I wanted to go someplace where the women speak English and don’t have White-People hangups… Couldn’t you have done this earlier?”

But on the other side, raging hormones are saying, “One month is long enough. You know how to work people. Play your cards and both of you can look back on it as a happy, short-lived experience.” Bleh.

I already had to turn down one girl at my last company who had a crush on me, but who also had the combined intelligence of two halves of an apple. I somewhat suspect that that’s one reason that I didn’t get to stay on at that company when I asked to be able to switch to working part time, since the head of the company was protective of her.

  • Meg Ryanish cutesy looks (though Japanese)

Morning.

Caffeinated, fed (jalapeño/cheese scrambled eggs and bacon) and about to go to the gym to burn off the cheese, and eggs in the breakfast. Or something.

Kind of a crappy morning, I got called by a coach looking for the bus for their track meet. I called the supervisor I have on duty today - no answer. Grrr.

So, I ran to the office - it’s only a mile and a half - and checked, we have no request for a bus at all. Which means it’s likely that the school’s athletic secretary blew something and didn’t ask for one.

MBG it’s the track team. They can run to the meet. :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s cloudy here. Rain is not promised til tomorrow but it looks like we could get some today. Yay if’n it does.

BioTigs the knee is lookin’ less and less gross. Yay for progress!

In about an hour, I should have perfectly smoked ribs. It smells so good out on my deck where the smoker is. I sat out there about an hour reading and just enjoyin’ the smell of hickory. MMMMMMMMM… When they’re done, they are goin’ into the crockpot to stay warm and moist. I was thinkin’ I’d coat 'em in some Jack Daniel BBQ Sauce but I might just let ‘em stay like they are and warm up sauce for folks who want it. Did I mention people are comin’ over for dindin?

I’m all about cookin’ today apparently. I have a chicken, broccoli and rice casserole all assembled and ready to bake for tomorrow. Since tomorrow is brunch Sunday at church, I’m takin’ that. I thought about takin’ some ribs since there will be leftovers (it’s a buncha ribs!) but ribs and bbq sauce does not sound quite dainty enough for brunch, now does it?

Good morning everyone. I’m up and drinking coffee and trying to catch up on the MMP.

Things have been hectic, both at work and home and I couldn’t even catch up with you guys in the evening. By the time I could get to the computer here at home, it was late and I was tired.

We have a couple of people coming over to hang out tonight, and I need to spiff up the house some. I also need to run my daughter to the store and then to a friend’s house today. Finally, we need to run to over to a friend’s house to help her and some others unload a pool table. The thing weighs around 400 pounds, so some muscle is needed.

A belated Happy Birthday to you Welby.

Rosie, enjoy your trip. I am sorry to read about your friends.

I guess I should get going, as I have much to do. I’ll try to pop in later. I just didn’t want you all to think I was MIA.

Hey Taters we’ve missed ya!

Ok, the ribs are done and in the crock pot. A couple got sampled, ya know, just to make sure they’re ok. I’m all concerned about others like that. Dang! I’m good!

Everything is pretty much ready to go. I do have to bake the beans but they don’t take long. I think I’ve earned a nap.

Happy Saturday everyone! My voice is still a bit sore from last night. What did I do last night, you ask? I’m glad you asked.

Five prospective graduate students were visiting yesterday, and I was entertaining them along with a few other current graduates. After dinner at an upscale restaurant (on Dartmouth’s tab, yay!) we went drinking at a local pub. Then we went to the observatory, where public observing was being held at the time, and we saw some beautiful views of Saturn, and the Moon, and an open stellar cluster, and a nebula, and a few other things. After that - more drinks!

Then we said goodbye to two of the prospects, while the rest of us (numbering 6), went to a nearby town and got another drink before going to - get this - a karaoke bar. I completely rocked the house with my performance of Eminem’s “Without Me.” (So the FCC won’t let me be or let me be me so let me see, they tried to shut me down on MTV, but it feels so empty without me). The dance floor was packed when I did it, and I even got several compliments, which surprised the hell out of me. After that, the six of us did our show stopper: “Bohemian Rhapsody.” We had the entire bar singing along with us, no exaggeration. It was glorious.

Then I danced to “Paradise by the Dashboard Light,” the final song of the evening, and we all went home (or to the hotel), exhausted in that awesome way. What a night that was. Today I’m going to do a bit of work for the class I’m TAing (I volunteered to edit a lab), and I just agreed to do a recitation lecture for that same class. Sometimes my life amazes me.

Greetings to scout! Speaking of MIAs, is Lent over soon? I wonder when LiLi is coming back.

00swampus, make no mistake: if I weren’t vegetarian, I would totally eat ribs and BBQ sauce for brunch, or even breakfast.

Spats Easter is a week from tomorrow. LiLi may commence a posting frenzy then if’n she wishes.

I had a nice nap.

I also have the strangest desire to listen to Bohemian Rhapsody right now…

I just finished mudding. I patched the wall gouges and textured the ceiling repair. The water is off, so I’m kinda at a standstill for a little bit. **FCD ** removed the old heater duct to give him room for the drain pipes. It’ll also get the bathroom heat duct from behind the door and into the room, so yay! He’s messing with the plumbing, which is why the water is off, and I’m just being a bum right now.

Critters will be fed in about 15 minutes. I suppose I could put away the dishes, too. Or run the vacuum. Or just be a bum…

Could ya’ll keep it down a bit in here? And what is that smell?

I woke up thinking today was Sunday, but it isn’t.

Do ya’ll realize there are people in the world - even here on the Dope - who believe cats don’t care about people and are just in it for the food? I am sitting at my desk with five of the nine within arm’s reach; the other four are in line-of-sight; and the food bowls are (as always) full. If they are just in it for the food why am I getting so much feline attention?

Damn, my head hurts.

I’m not sure if I feel sore because of the yoga I did yesterday or the alcohol I consumed last night.

I had a loooooong talk last night with That Guy’s roommate, who was actually very nice about the whole thing (he has every right to hate me, I suppose, since he’s friends with both That Guy and his girlfriend) but basically urged me to make some kind of decision before the whole thing goes any further. He told me that it was unfair that the burden of making the decision was on me but if I was going to wait for That Guy to make a decision I might be waiting till the cows come home. I’m still trying to work up the courage to confront That Guy and steel myself for the very real possibility that he’ll decide to break it off with me and carry on with his girlfriend like nothing’s happened. His roommate said that he doesn’t understand why That Guy would have taken this whole this so far if he wasn’t going to break up with his girlfriend in the end, but my feelings are that if he hasn’t broken up with her so far he’s probably not going to. I’m trying to decide whether I want to confront him as soon as possible or wait until after we’ve turned in our thesis drafts so I can afford to fall apart without it affecting my work.

SCL, I hear ya. Lots of water helps, I find.

Spats, I’m sorry I missed such a performance! We haven’t been to karaoke in ages… hopefully after these damn drafts are in, we’ll make a night of it.

Lordy–wait. Your thesis is your thesis, a guy is just a guy. (sorry, but I’m more practical than noble these days)

Happy Belated Welby!!

I just made a lemon meringue pie. Nummy.
Did some prelim work on my individual project (due April 30), need to do my other class’ homework, even though class was cancelled for this week. It will make me feel good.
Hope everyone’s Saturday is going well. Mine is.

Well, that’s kind of what I meant - I don’t want this mess to affect my work, which is why I’m probably going to put off confronting him about it until after we turn our drafts in and have a couple of weeks to relax. Then I can fall into pieces and pick myself back up again without having to worry about it screwing up my thesis. See, I’m being practical as well.

Of course, I can’t predict what will happen - maybe he will break up his girlfriend; maybe when I actually face the fire I’ll find that it’s not as bad as I was dreading after all. But I’d rather not risk a breakdown at this point.

Who’s got the wheelbarrow? We just got back from dinner at the restaurant that has the best crab cakes in Maryland, bar none (seriously, I know people who drive two hours to eat at it). Conveniently, it’s within walking distance of our house – in fact, right now it’s even within hobbling distance for Yours Truly. Lapin Blanc and I each had the jumbo lump crab cake (one, not two, neither of us could even contemplate eating two), about 6-8 oz. of crabmeat rolled in a ball with about a tablespoon of breading around the outside, just enough to hold it together to cook it, and stuffed N.O.T.. Papa Tigs had the seafood platter, which had shrimps, clams (not your normal little teensy clam strips, no, we’re talking great big juicy fresh clams), scallops, and stuffed shrimp – basically, a shrimp attached to a 3-4 oz. crabcake. So we brought home scallops and crab for omelettes tomorrow morning. Crabmeat omelettes, yum! Our server asked for specific details on how to fix a crabmeat omelette – amazingly, she’s never had one, in spite of being the daughter of the people who founded this restaurant over 50 years ago and having worked there and eaten their rich and generous portions of seafood all her life. (Which also might explain the fact that in spite of all the running around they do, nobody in the family can exactly be called svelte!)

Anyway, now it’s off to recuperate from dinner. <burp>
