**MamaTigs ** - what’s the restaurant?? I loves me some crabcakes! There’s a local joint here that makes good ones, and good fried shrimps, too. If you don’t wanna share here, *please * shoot me an email.
Drat - now I want a crabcake.

Ooh…nummy crab. I loves me some crab.
Now I want crab too.

I need a reference question to ask a strange librarian tomorrow. Anyone got any ideas? Not too simple, like what’s the capitol of Idaho, but not too hard either, like where would I find the way they put the last stitch in a soccer ball?
Anyone?
Email sent, FCM. Any time you want to come up and eat crab cakes, let me know!
Mmmmmm, crabcakes. I had some wonderful crabcakes at lunch the other day. Not as good as actually have them near the water they came from, I’m sure, but very nicely prepared.
rigs, have you tried going into GQ (or even IMHO or CS) to see if there might be something appropriate? Can’t think of anything off the top of my head.
Sounds like a fun time, Spats.
Allergies are driving me nuts. I’m taking industrial-strength antihistamines, but they’re apparently not enough this year. I’m going to do a major cleaning in the morning and hope I can at least reduce the allergens indoors.
I’m back from the gardening day. Heard some very nice talks: one about daylily propagation, one about finishing concrete molded leaves (the woman who presented it does workshops where you make the leaves; this is part two of that workshop). Third one was about trees and shrubs. Gave me some good ideas for trees that I could plant in the next several years. The keynote speaker was meh… She’s nice enough, I’m sure, but nothing she said was news or even particularly interesting. But it was still lots of fun, I knew lots of people who were there and got to chat with quite a few people I didn’t know. Also, the vendors were lots of fun to look at (although I was good and didn’t buy anything).
Made a major household stuff run to Tar-zhay. Entrance fee was $163.62, but I had $28.80 in coupons, all for either cheapest brand available or for things where I only buy a specific brand. Also, I had a Target coupon for $10 off if I bought more than $100. So, yay! (Apparently it’s my month for saving lots of money.)
Gonna do some shredding tonight. Oh joy!
Back later or tomorrow…
Happy Saturday evening!

I just learned something, uh, interesting about my Aunt Betty the retired kindergarten teacher’s funeral. First, though, some background.
Aunt Betty was a DEVOTED basketball fan; she started buying season tickets up in the nosebleed section when they opened the local pro team franchise years ago, and she attended every game religiously. She kept scrapbooks about the team. She knew every detail about every player and every coach and everyone else who had anything to do with the team.
Three or four years ago, the team went looking for some long-time fans to feature their photos on playoff tickets, and she was thrilled to death to be one of the ones picked. And then in the ensuing years it started to snowball. The team started paying more attention to her – as her health got more frail, if she wasn’t feeling well when she went to a game (she always went anyway), they’d move her near the first aid office and the nurses there would take care of her. And somehow, a couple years ago a sportswriter for the local paper discovered her and started writing about her.
After she moved into assisted living last year and, after paying her bills, had $130 a month left for her incidental expenses, she still managed to scrape up the funds for her season ticket, and bus fare to and from the games; but she mentioned to the sportswriter that her one regret was that she could no longer afford ice cream at each game, and next thing you know he’d published it, and then things started to REALLY happen. Before the day was out, someone had donated funds for her to get ice cream; then funds continued to pour in, and then the team got in on the action, and by the end of it the team had donated her season tickets (they tried to move her to a lower level but she liked her nosebleed seat), free transportation to and from the games, free meals at each game, visits from players, etc., etc., etc. (And we’re talking players visiting her voluntarily, not one of their contractual community visits!)
So the sportswriter learned she was in ICU and actually went and visited her, sat there holding her hand and talking to her about the team. And apparently the only time she was responsive the entire time she was in the ICU before she passed away was during his visit, when apparently she tried to mumble something to him. He posted this in his blog, and by noon that day had over 400 emails from folks in the community who had been touched by her story over the past few years.
And now is where the funeral comes in. Apparently he mentioned in his podcast where and when the funeral is to be held, and told everyone to show up wearing team colors!    The team is off that day, too, so for all I know there may be a whole row of 7-foot men sitting there! It’s a tiny church – we don’t even know if anyone has warned the minister to expect the kind of hoopla that may ensue!
My sister and my cousin are going to represent the family at the funeral, so I will be all agog waiting to hear about the whole thing – it may turn into a three-ring circus! And you know what? Aunt Betty would have LOVED it; I only wish she could be there to enjoy it!
Wow! That’s great, if a bit unusual. Nice to see people take an interest.
Off to bed…

Crabmeat is definitely on the grocery list for tomorrow. Yum! Maybe with some fried shrimp. We had a humble tuna casserole for din-din tonight. It was very yummy though! I haven’t had me some comfort food in a while. I’ve been experimentin’ with my rookie attempts at gourmet! Last night we had Cuban pork chops with mojo sauce, and sofrito mashed **N.O.T.**s. Night before I attempted shrimp scampi and - get this - roasted red pepper cream sauce over three-cheese tortellini. OMFG! I can cook!
Today I cleaned out my closet. I mean I emptied it out completely, and swept up all the dust bunnies. I threw out or donated a bunch of stuff, and now it’s organized! Woo-hoo! Then Mr Rebo and I went to the storage unit and took a bunch of stuff to Goodwill. We were planning on having a garage sale, but after doing the taxes, it seems a better deal to save on storage rental and have stuff to deduct from taxes. So tomorrow we have to bring the rest of the crap home that we’re keeping, and store it in the newly cleaned out garage.
It rained like a mama today, so we couldn’t put up the siding like we had planned. Oh well, we got a lot done!
It has been a long day… The Booster club collected $819 in cash and 6 pallets of foo for the Food Bank. I helped do manly things-I stood around the truck and watched women between loadings. We had catered doughnuts and tacos and someone brought brownies make with Kaluha(Hi swampy!). Afterwards we stopped at a local sports pub for food and beerverages. They have a room decorated in Hurricanes stuff. The arean even loaned us some traffic cones, which I am borrowing before I take them back. ![]()
Spats, I have been asked not to sing. Ever.
Mamatigs, glad the knee is getting better.
FCM, got an extra shower head? I broke mine.
Hi Our Taters!
Good night all!
I got two pairs of new shoes today. Also fancy new undies. This can only be good.
**Sage Rat, ** sometimes you just have to take opportunities when they come along.
DB, one of those pucks looks kind of familiar…
I bought a can of German N.O.T. salad on a whim, and it’s really not bad.
I am finally recovered from my hangover. Hangovers are the reason I don’t drink very much anymore.
BioTigs what a jake story about your Aunt Betty! The part about the funds to make sure she had season tickets, transportation, ice cream, etc. made me tear up a little. I hope the team shows up for her funeral. I cannot wait to hear about that! That sportswriter is one great guy, IMO. Is it not just amazing the things we can learn about relatives! Oh and as for Aunt Betty being there, well, I have a feeling she will be there and lovin’ every minute of it.
Supper last night was great. I gotta say, those ribs, N.O.T. salad and baked beans were amongst my finest efforts. I was worried about havin’ a lot of ribs left to do sump’n with, but I have like six of ‘em left. They will form the basis for supper tonight. Oh, and a friend brought a key lime pie! I lurve key lime pie and did not know she was goin’ to do that. It got gone real fast.
I’m caffienatin’ up here. In a bit I need to purty up and stick the casserole in the oven to bake. It only takes thirty minutes to cook and then I’ll put it in my Pyrex[sup]TM[/sup] carry thingy. I love those things. I have four in different sizes. What I really like is that with the little cold and hot pack things that come with 'em I can take sump’n cold or hot somewheres and it’ll keep really great and stay cold or warm until it’s et up. Great little invention there.
It’s Palm Sunday. That means paradin’ into church carryin’ a palm frond. That also means havin’ palm frond duels out in front of the church beforehand. What? Like none of you has ever done it! “En Garde! Prepare to meet your doom at the end of my rapier sharp palm frond!”
**MamaTigs ** - what a great story! Funny how such a little thing can have such an impact - after all, it was just about going to basketball games. I bet your aunt was a real character. Sounds like she’ll have a fitting tribute.
**dogbut ** - as a matter of fact, we do have an extra shower head, but it’s a cheapie and I think it’d cost more in postage to send it to you than a new one would! But if you happen to be in the neighborhood…
I’ve been up more or less since 3-ish. I almost got up to watch TV, hoping it’d make me drowsy, but if I’d left the bedroom, my entourage would have followed and it wouldn’t have been restful. I did doze off a couple of times, despite a pesky cat. But now I’m up.
I tossed the jeans in the dryer - I kinda forgot I’d washed them till we went to bed last night and I didn’t want them crumbled in the dryer all night. When my snoozin’ sweetie wakes up, we’ll go get some breakfast, then buy another hunk of 2" pipe and a pan for mixing the cement that we’ll use to bed in the shower pan. I get to mix it - yay me. But in theory, by the end of the day, the shower pan will be installed.
It occurred to me a few minutes ago that there are several bills in this pile of stuff on my desk that need to be paid. I should probably dig them out and write the checks. That would be the mature adult thing to do. I need a better system for handling my non-electronic payments, because they tend to be forgotten, since everything else is paid pretty much automatically. Heck, even our stupid cable/internet company is finally going to set up bill paying on line next month. It’s only been 2 years…
One of my sisters is hosting Easter dinner and I’m taking a veggie dish. I’m thinking in honor of the Easter Bunny, I’ll do carrots. Or maybe something else. We shall see.
**swampy ** - don’t you know how to behave yourself! I’m appalled! I’m aghast! I’m… I’m… OK, so I’m not surprised. tsk tsk
And Happy April Fools Day! I don’t do pranks, but every once in a while, someone comes up with a clever one and makes me smile. Mostly they just annoy me. But then, I am a grouch…
Morning! I am also doing my pre church caffinenation. Today is laundry day, and a little grocery shopping.
SCL, that the Snakes puck you sent me, right next to the Brind’Amour 100th point puck.
Yum, Rebo. I’ll have a serving of everything, please.
I need to set up a couple of bills to be paid electronically; thanks for the reminder, FCM. I don’t think I have any actual bills left that I pay with checks. The only checks I write any more are to church and we’re going to be able to do that via EFT soon, too.
I’m up, caffeinating and beginning the process of de-allergenization before going off to church. We always start with a little service blessing the palms with a couple of neighboring churches. I think this is the first time it might be raining. I’m curious to see what the rain plan is. My guess is that it will happen in our sanctuary instead (I’m pretty sure ours is the largest of the three).
BTW, swampy, you’re the only one who uses palms as swords.

Off to set payments up, get ready for church and continue de-allergizing.
Happy Sunday, everyone!
GT
I am not the only one who sword fights with palms. I know it. Ain’t no use in any of y’all denyin’ you have or want to. So There!
Casserole is bakin’ and I’m all purtied up. Somebody else is also purtyin’ up as I post. Funny how the promise of food can suddenly make someone feel like goin’ to church.
Ok, that and a palm sword fight. Just cause I’m an adult does not mean I have to be mature about it.
Well, on Sundays, at least. Nice to know you guys miss me. I absolutely promise to post smashed after Easter Vigil next Saturday. We’re having a big part and I’m getting hammered with Best Friend to celebrate becoming Catholic. I’m told this is the correct ritual. Driving Husband may get blind drunk, too. QD should keep an eye on him.
Also, Attacks Husband is proposing to his Hawaiian girlfriend. She’s coming to visit for two weeks. I’m furiously campaigning for them to live in Toronto, not Hawaii.
Mr. Lissar is sick, but we’re supposed to be waving palms at church. And probably swordfighting with them.
I’m not sure if he’ll make it out today.
Coffee’s brewing, and I’m the only one up to enjoy it. The Kid spent the night here last night after meeting us at the after-high school musical drinking and eatin’ fest with some friends.
Today I plan to do nothing, and do it well. I have a stack of reading to get at, some typing I COULD (but probably won’t) get to for work, and dinner (jambalaya) to make.
It’s windy as heck out here - the house is rattling and shaking. I guess some big storms blew through the area last night - the newsfolks are talking about microbursts tearing off roofs and such.
mamatigger what a cool story about your aunt - I’d love to see that funeral!
What a great story, MT! She sounds like she knew how live.
I am going to do some homework (which is reading novels–I love library school) and then maybe putz around the yard. Daffs are almost in bloom. It IS windy out today, but the sun is shining–lovely day.
Enjoy your Sunday, folks.
Hey, LiLi! Looking forward to your obligatory drunken post.
I have 10 pages due tomorrow and have only written 2. Guess what I’ll be doing today?
Happy Sunday everyone!
Wow, MamaTigs, way cool story! I missed it last night. I’m sure Aunt Betty will be watching from afar! Please keep us posted as to what happens.
I’m all caffienated and breakfasted. Actually had two breakfasts! I had a half a blueberry bagel about 8:00, and just finished a BLT.
I’m a bit jealous that Mr Rebo gets to go to the season opener for the Astros tomorrow night. Oswalt will be pitching. I told him long ago to go ahead without me, because it would be too much effort to get downtown during rush hour. (The ballpark is on his way home from work.) But we’re all going next Saturday! Woo-hoo! I lurve baseball.
Not too much planned today except grocery shopping. I have clothes to fold, and a bit of vacuuming to do, and I really should scrub Dad’s bathtub. (The first thing I did this morning was grab a shirt to throw on out of my bee-yoo-tee-full clean closet! Made me smile.)
So enjoy your Sunday, MMPers. And Happy April Fools’ Day!
